Who did the upgrade, the same people who did TSB's site! Hopeless, slow, keeps saying "Pprune is not responding", so you click the button and waste another 2 or 3 minutes. Was not broke, why "fix" it

Desktop here. Any way to get a less bright (less white) screen? Prior lists and threads were more yellow?
A large classic-car forum (V-Bulletin, I think.) did a format update, and one of the retained viewing options in the list at the lower left bottom of the home page is "Classic." Which seems similar to what PPrune had been, and what some would probably select if an option.

I have had to turn my monitor brightness because of the glare. One time to get back to the top of the page to change threads I had to scroll through the entire thread, God knows how many pages of it.

It's jumpy, keeps freezing and I don't like it.

Sadly 'clean, modern look' seems to be the in phrase and happening to many sites these days. Translated it usually means acres of white space and large text.
IMHO, any software developer that even mentions it should be taken outside and shot - well, be sacked anyway.

This mobile skin is awful, but it won't let me out

I clicked on this to see what it looks like, and I am now unable to revert to the skin I was using originally. (Default).
Where, in this mobile skin, is the button to select a different skin?
I am using IE on a PC.
EDIT
It gets worse. This is an edit. the tags for edit/reply/report are invisible. White on white. I was only able to guess that a tag was there by mousing over and hoping.
No user control panel access.
No tag/selection to "go to full site"
This is not an improvement.

Angry

I don't like the squashed text, due to the right hand Ad's margin on the right hand side. Which is pointless; as I block Ad's anyway! Now a very poor display! Well done Not!

I've left a page open for ten minutes or so trying to get a stuck script to complete, to no avail. What happens is that a script is trying to do something and can't, for some reason, so just displays a continuously rotating pair of black arrows on a white background underneath the last post, with that page then locked up, even when reloaded.

Here's a screen shot showing the problem; the round black arrows are continuously rotating clockwise, with no way out of it other then to log out and then back in again. Going back to that thread results in the same thing happening again at the bottom of the thread, locking it up again. It only seems to happen on some threads, AFAICS (it's not yet happening on this one, for example):

VP959 ... I’ve seen that. Undoubtedly an Advert with lots of .gif activity. The stuff site users aren’t supposed to post, IIRC.

The snag is it seems to lock the page up, so if you want to reply it takes forever and a day for the reply button to come up, longer than I can be bothered to wait most of the time.

The other point is that some sub-forums are still in the old format, which seems really weird to me. It's as if parts of the forum are in one format and parts are in a completely different format. For example, Private Flying still seems to be in the old format, whilst this sub-forum is in the new format. Here's a screen shot taken a few minutes ago of the Private Flying sub-forum, showing it's still in the old format:

Something very similar happens when trying to use PPRuNe on an Android tablet with Firefox, except it's the title bar that stays in the centre of the screen whilst you can scroll stuff up and down behind it. The work around at the moment is:

1 - Stop trying to use a tablet to view PPRuNe, as it's just too much hassle.

2 - Scroll right down to the bottom of each page, when the title bar (which is a lot deeper than the old one) will eventually disappear (if you're lucky - this trick does not work on any thread with only a couple of replies to the initial post).

Overall, things seem to have got a LOT slower on Windows, virtually impossible on an iPad, a bit annoying on an Android tablet, but pretty much OK using Firefox on a Linux machine.

There is a heck of a lot more variability between different platforms than there used to be, I know not why, but it does seem that the new version hasn't been tested and debugged properly for use on a wide range of systems. What I find odd is that it seems to work best on a Linux box running Firefox. If anything I'd have expected it to run better under Windows, but Windows and Firefox seem to have a few issues, including the jump from the old to the new format from one sub-forum to another, the jumps in text size on the screen and the strange lock ups with whatever the script is that results in the rotating black arrows at the bottom of the screen, that stop you being able to reply to anything on that thread for around 10 minutes or so, when eventually the "reply" button row will appear.

We're working on the long page loads, thanks for your patience.

So far, seriously underwhelmed.
It's called Infinite Scroll. You can turn it off:

The mobile skin is optimized for mobile devices. If you zoom the full desktop on an mobile device you may experience issues. Recommend using mobile skin.

There does not seem to be an easy way to post pictures from third party hosting sites

Can you further explain the cursor issue you're having? Is this just on ipad?

As to posting photos, it is in fact much easier than before. Just click the little "picture" icon and follow the prompts. You can upload directly from your device's camera or library, or paste a link.

UPDATE: the new photo uploader is not yet on the site, but hopefully will be later today or tomorrow.

Ah, If only the upgrade on FlyerTalk (also featuring IBobi as Administrator!) had been like this. There are several features of the presentation here that users are asking for on FlyerTalk, so far without success.

(Ah, just noticed the lack of Forum Jump option at the foot of the page, as noted upthread.)
Thanks for the shout-out

RE: FlyerTalk features, shoot me a PM as I'd like to hear what we have here that people want there.

/rumours-news/608145-ultra-long-range-a350-new-post.html

This ensures that when clicking a thread title it takes you to where you last left off.

Currently the links on some pages will take you to the beginning of the thread instead.

This might vary by theme.
This is the new way the software handles this functionality. There is a "view first unread" link below each thread title. It's another click but you will get there.

And of course there's still the little down arrow next to the thread title so you can use to go straight to first unread from the forum menu.

Overlap issue already responded to -- please use the mobile skin.

Can you post a link to a post where the videos are missing?

This is not an improvement.
You can try logging out/deleting cookies to go to the default skin. Mobile skin is not meant for desktop devices.
