SOFTWARE UPDATE: New photo gallery, photo uploader, and mobile skin, April 23, 2018!

Hi all!

Please use this thread to ask questions and report any issues with the new mobile skin, photo uploader, or gallery tools.

Here are a few details and how-to's on uploading and viewing photos in the new galleries. (NOTE: you can still access all your existing photo galleries by bookmarking this link: PPRuNe Photo Gallery)

Gallery Pages (Coming May 2018)

We're upgrading the gallery page to show you more photos all at once. You can now also browse by new options such as “Trending,””Recent,” “Commented,””Popular,” and your own “Albums.” This will allow you to have a custom experience with the new Gallery.

On single photo pages you will see the photo you selected, but it's more than just that; you will also be able to discover related photos, comment, see trending pictures, and also see other photos in the same album.

Uploading photos to your Gallery Page

On the page with your albums and where you upload images, you can upload your photos in many ways:

1. Drag and drop photos directly onto the page
2. Upload your photo with a URL
3. Attach photos from your device

Photo Uploader (New!)

With the new uploader you can now upload your photos in more ways:

1. Drag and drop your photo (New!)
2. Select photos already uploaded to an album in the new gallery (New!)
3. Upload your photos with a URL (same as before)
4. Attach photos from your device (same as before)

Uploading from your mobile phone (New!)

You can now use your phone's camera to upload a photo immediately after it's taken.

Arranging your photos

Once your photos are uploaded, you will be able to drag them around to rearrange them in the album, tag, and delete your photos. You can also "lock" your photos, which will prevent them from showing up in the public gallery. If you want more members to be able to enjoy your photos, leave them unlocked.

Once the attachment process is completed, select the paperclip icon to show a dropdown menu with the option to paste your photos in-line within your post, making the user experience more efficient in adding and managing your photos from all device types.

MOBILE SKIN ENHANCEMENTS

In the NEW mobile skin, we have made it easier for you to navigate on the forums! For example, on the main forum page you will be able to expand and collapse forum headings to access subforums within (with out loading another page like before).

We’ve also made some improvements to the sub-forum pages where you can start browsing different threads in a much cleaner lay out with segmented color coded sections.

These changes are designed to be small, incremental improvements to make it easier to differentiate different types of forum text content, and make browsing easier on your mobile device.

Please let us know if you have any issues or concerns,

--Admin

I have an issue with the new software.

I’m viewing on an iPhone 6S in landscape mode. About 15% of the right side of the screen is blank and as a consequence, the text is smaller than it used to be and therefore, more difficult to read than it used to be.

That space either should or will contain an ad. Yes the text is small on the desktop skin on a mobile device; please use the mobile skin. You can go to it by clicking the green button at the bottom of the page.

Colourful!
Bombarded now with flickering ads down the right side; the page will not move or allow me to see anything until all the ads are in place, sometimes taking half a minute or more. Perhaps things will improve.

IBobi,

Thanks for the feedback, but I hate the mobile skin. I never use it. The old desktop skin was perfect on my iPhone.

I thought my PC had gone mad...
I've got the PPrune header permanently at the top of the page when I scroll and it covers the forum 'list' at the top.
So far, seriously underwhelmed.

Likewise on my desktop. And there is no section at the bottom of each page to click on to return to that particular forum index.

Agree with previous comments re Pprune not being broken, so why mess with it?

Much, much slower on my computer, and hangs more often than the previous version...
Maybe I'll like it better when I get used to it, but so far I'm not a fan.

Sorry I don’t like it . When trying to post a url the cursor will not drop to the correct spot , it lodges all over the place in a random order . It may be better when done but right now it’s a mess . The display is different when using safari and chrome on the iPad , there does not seem to be an easy way to post pictures from third party hosting sites it’s just a mess at the moment

I haven't done an in-depth nit-pick, but I like just about everything about it! I use the Desktop site on both my iMac and iPad, and only the annoying floating advert on the right side of the page on iPad causes me any grief.

Ah, If only the upgrade on FlyerTalk (also featuring IBobi as Administrator!) had been like this. There are several features of the presentation here that users are asking for on FlyerTalk, so far without success.

(Ah, just noticed the lack of Forum Jump option at the foot of the page, as noted upthread.)

Looks good.

Please could all the thread titles' links have "new-post" appended before ".html". e.g.:

/rumours-news/608145-ultra-long-range-a350.html

becomes

/rumours-news/608145-ultra-long-range-a350-new-post.html

This ensures that when clicking a thread title it takes you to where you last left off.

Currently the links on some pages will take you to the beginning of the thread instead.

This might vary by theme.

Real problems on my iPad. Issues with ads overlapping text, header bar remains over middle of page when scrolling - and I can see audio or video links on posts.

taotoo: I was just looking at that very thread (ultra-long-range-a350) and was surprised to see the page displays in the "old" format. Totally different to this one.

I don't like the way adverts are placed in the thread and separates messages. Can they not just be kept to the top and the side?
