SOFTWARE UPDATE: New photo gallery, photo uploader, and mobile skin, April 23, 2018!
Administrator
I've left a page open for ten minutes or so trying to get a stuck script to complete, to no avail. What happens is that a script is trying to do something and can't, for some reason, so just displays a continuously rotating pair of black arrows on a white background underneath the last post, with that page then locked up, even when reloaded.
Here's a screen shot showing the problem; the round black arrows are continuously rotating clockwise, with no way out of it other then to log out and then back in again. Going back to that thread results in the same thing happening again at the bottom of the thread, locking it up again. It only seems to happen on some threads, AFAICS (it's not yet happening on this one, for example):

Thanks for the reply
Unfortunately I don't think this link exists on the mobile theme.
Never noticed that before - I guess that will do the job, thanks.
(Incidentally, the thread title links on the home page still function as before - I don't know if there's any chance of copying the code from there).

Good update
Can you add a like button to posts?
It would save time skimming through posts when the majority are meaningless.
The total "likes" someone gets can then be seen meaning people actually try and post factual/meaningful messages.
The idea is from the forum HotCopper. It works well

The advertisements suck!!!
i understand that’s how you get your revenue, but it has rendered the site almost unreadable on a phone, and not much better on an iPad, due to the text being squeezed by the ads on the right, and they seem to be .gif based, so they slow everything down, and are super distracting. The mid thread ads are the same.
Seriously, a terrible update.
And please, a like/dislike button would be the best addition.
No green button here either

This update is rubbish! The screen is that bright my eyes hurt reading it, please tone down the brightness or give the option of a non white background. Intrusive adverts everywhere taking up the right hand side of the screen. Posts taking ages to appear when scrolling. Another case of fixing something that wasn’t broken! Can you give us the option to use the old layout that was easy to read.

It's called Infinite Scroll. You can turn it off:
How to disable "infinite scroll" and return to old pagination style
How to disable "infinite scroll" and return to old pagination style
I realise everything is done with the best intentions, but IMO, software updates are never actually "better", they just have more bells and whistles to add to the ones I didn't use before the update...

Retracting my previous comment about the mobile site
I can get used to the new mobile site, but I have one suggestion. Please add the number of views. At the moment I can only see number of posts. IPhone Safari.
(Currently on a different machine in chrome)
So, how do I get that other machine to not come up with the mobile skin.
The failure of design is that you can choose it but not choose out of it.
Also, failure to be able to access PM's in that mode.
Why is it that a user can select it but, once in, has no choice to get out? When a UI is designed with pull down options, normally, the option is available when the other mode is chosen.

You can scroll to the top of the thread and click the "breadcrumb" to go to the index:
Or, you can click the FORUM JUMP button and select the forum whose index you want to see.
Concur with a poster above, this update is rubbish!
That can be fixed by disabling Infinite Scroll here: https://www.pprune.org/profile.php?do=editoptions

I'll try and do some more work on seeing how to get PPRuNe to work properly on a large screen tablet later. Unfortunately, the mobile skin is pretty dire on a big screen; it seems optimised for those using a 'phone, and somehow the forum seems to think that large screen format tablets are phones, perhaps because it just (wrongly) assumes that any device that's not running a desktop operating system must be a phone. I can manually switch my tablet to always load the "full fat" version of the site, but that then has problems with the way stuff is formatted on screen. If I find a fix I'll flag it back here.
Some pages are still taking forever and a day to load now; but part of that may be down to the new version waiting until all the graphics in the ads etc have loaded. Looking at the scripts that are slowing things up it seems that they are all links to ad servers, so my guess is that some of the site advertisers content may be now causing some of the issues being reported. Not sure why this should happen now, when it didn't happen with the old version, but could it be connected with where the ads are on each page?
Seems possible, as the slowest pages to load (so slow that I've given up trying to view them several times now) are the ones where ads appear between posts.
I hate to say this, but I would guess that if this is the problem then some may well choose to just ad block PPRuNe. I'm ad blocking it now, even though I know the forum has to generate revenue to exist, and I've been around here long enough to really want to keep PPRuNe going, just because without the ads blocked things are just far to slow to be usable.
