Yep, she's been at Tooradin for several years now operating as many as 20 Joy Flights a day. There was 2 there for a while however UVB is apparently the sweet one to fly.

ForkTailedDrKiller 10th May 2007 01:24

This will test you out!

I would be surprised if there are not at least a couple of people in here that have been to this top spot - NOT!

Same place - one piccy from the air

and one on the ground.

2) Nearest town?
3) Exact location?

Not sure where, NW QLD I guess, but I reckon it was a good 15 years ago.....or more:}

"Not sure where, NW QLD I guess"

Geez, there's always one isn't there! Giv'em an inch and they want to take a mile.

NW Qld? That's a bloody big area J430. Note that I have now changed "general geographical area" to "specific geographical area"!

but I reckon it was a good 15 years ago.....or more"

?? based on what? The old truck? The "old" aeroplane? You sure as hell can't see my lack of grey hair from there!

The shorthorn cattle in the yard? Your eyesight isn't that good!

Capt Fathom 10th May 2007 03:47

I'm going make or break! :uhoh:

Richmond / Julia Creek area.

ForkTailedDrKiller 10th May 2007 04:12

Nice try Capt.

Similar geography (tree-less grasslands) but further west.

Lake Nash?

ForkTailedDrKiller 10th May 2007 05:20

Lake Nash?

Right part of the world - but north of Lake Nash - and the other side of the border.

What's that part of the world called = answer (1).

1/. The GAFA.:ok:

Capt Fathom 10th May 2007 06:20

Damn Dr. I've got better things to do.

Somewhere on the Barkly Tableland.

The cattle yard and turkey's nest should help narrow it down. Not many of them out there! :E

ForkTailedDrKiller 10th May 2007 06:40

1) Barkly Tableland is correct. Well done Capt.

Interesting place to visit - but you wouldn't want to live there! I used to sit on the verandah of the house at this particular place and look out ........... at nothing ........... as far as the eye could see ........ nothing ...... maybe a rock ...... if you were lucky!

Nearest town?

Dr:cool:

Pseudonymn 10th May 2007 06:57

What do you classify as a 'town'?
Camooweal?
Doomadgee?
Mount Isa?

Capt Fathom 10th May 2007 07:13

Barkly Downs.

ForkTailedDrKiller 10th May 2007 07:35

Pseudo

Yep, (2) Camooweal is the nearest town!

OK, any ex-Stanbroke Pastoral Co pilots in here to pick the exact location? There must be dozens of young pilots (and a few older ones) who got the illusive first 1000 hrs peddling Stanbroke aircraft.

Stanbroke (the original!) operated a fleet of a half a dozen or more C172, C182, C206's and a Bonanza/Baron for 40 years before the company was broken up a few years ago.

I know of a couple of prangs that occurred but I don't think there was a single fatality in 40 years. Says something about the professionalism of those concerned and the reliability of GA aircraft.

Warbo 10th May 2007 07:57

Somewhere on Rocklands, western side? No. 3 OS?

ForkTailedDrKiller 10th May 2007 08:04

Good one Warbo!

3) No. 3 Outstation on Rocklands (19 20.5 S, 138 05 E)

Hey Doc
You asked the question...........just answered it best I could for a SE QLD boy:}
as for the era.......mate that aint no digital amera you were using there;)
But I love ya hat!!!:}
J:ok:

Capt Fathom 10th May 2007 12:18

We weren't too far off!

Lake Nash & Barkly Downs were Stanbroke properties!

A mate of mine was at Lake Nash in the late 70's, flying the 182.
