Dr. I posted a photo of WTF at Geelong Vic a couple of months ago. It must get around. Where is that one?

For those that haven't seen one yet, the new E-Jet dropped into Albury while I was there today at the airshow.

Another Cirrus in Canberra.... one could be forgiven for thinking they're breeding over there :suspect:

"Oh sh*t the wing has fallen off!
I'm outta here! Seeya mate!

Enjoy the ride down!"

FTDK, yeah something like that! Often the parachute is only warn for comfort/padding in the cockpit. When you learn to glide in Aus, you generally go up without parachutes - madness hey! I own my own parachute these days, so on all gliding flights it comes with me :)

Here's a picture of my old mans glider, about to launch @ Kingaroy. It's a Schempp-Hirth Ventus 2cxM. The engine is a 52hp Solo engine, and at MTOW of 565kg it'll easily climb out at over 500fpm (early day self-launchers always struggled to get this). Once at around 2000AGL, the prop is lined up vertically and retracted back into the fuselarge. This transforms the glider into a more traditional 'pure sailplane'..

Dad's flown 988km in this bird, and fastest speed around a task of 144km/hr!

She looks fairly tidy these days.
Still don't like the cargo pod.
cheers,
185.

Knulp 7th Apr 2008 02:16

Soaring
When the hat badges equal the AUW of the glider you are cleared to go.

ABX 7th Apr 2008 02:35

So true

LOL

Knulp, that is true everywhere I have been gliding! Badge collecting seems to be a sub culture of all gliding enthusiasts.:ok:

go_soaring 7th Apr 2008 06:35

so true..

Aint that the truth re: badges.. However, we've got a more appropriate name for those guys in the gliding world..

OFITTHS - Old Farts in Terry Towling Hats!!

You become a 'senior' in gliding on your 26th birthday, so there's not much time left for me :)

Do any of you sheep-shaggin C185 drivers know the whereabouts of the ex VH-CJT?

Arrived in NZ via a stint on the ice in Antarctica?

Rat

Weheka 7th Apr 2008 21:35

But I thought Aussie was the place where men are men and the sheep are nervous??
You might be talking about ZK-FNX, currently on skydiving ops in the North Island somewhere, I believe that was down the ice before arriving in NZ. I think the original log books are still down there, in the ship which went down.......down there.

Is that Air Canada one for real or a good mock up in photoshop? Surely not real:confused:

Dave Incognito 8th Apr 2008 05:00

If memory serves me correctly, it’s blended with a photo from a test where a bomb was detonated in a retired fuselage. A good effort though!

notmyC150v2 8th Apr 2008 05:00

Dunno Jaba. Like I said they were just emailed to me.

I hope it is a photoshop jobby though. If it was real it couldn't have ended well.

notmyC150v2 8th Apr 2008 05:02

Dave,

That would explain why there are all those lines where the explosion is but not on the rest of the fuselage. Very well done though.

BPH63 8th Apr 2008 05:25

(old) fake. its a composite photo including a Air France fuselage being detonated in tests

Hempy 8th Apr 2008 09:33

The last one is a scene from some movie whose name escapes me at the moment.

satmstr 8th Apr 2008 09:38

hempy , i think the movie is Final Destination .... correct me if i am wrong :ok:

PyroTek 8th Apr 2008 10:42

i remember seeing a GIF image of that last image (with the logs) and someone had chucked the face of King Leonidus from Sparta on the end of the log...
