VH-MEP, Jun 11 1986, Over Ardrossan.
Lol, I reckon that old bucket of bolts would have dropped a few screws herself from time to time! Strange thing was though, when a Chieftain fell in a heap somewhere (or crashed as once was the case) or the Aerocommander went U/S, old MEP would be sent to the rescue. Even done the mail run a few times - amazing what you can fit in a Sneaker!

Avalon last year it is for the pyros, Aero 145 it is also. Ugly duckling but kind of endearing... any guesses where?

And it went the other way as well.
One day I'd flown ACZ to Adelaide on the regular service, tidied up the aircraft and went into the terminal to gather passengers for the flight back to the gutter. Upon returning to the aircraft with the outbound passengers I found it gutted!
Half it's radios were missing.
Seems MEP's radios were out for maintenance and someone didn't want to lose a days training, so they just stole them from ACZ while my back was turned.

I did five mail runs in MEP after ACZ had that little bingle at Clifton Hills in the hands of a current QANTAS pilot (not female).

Guess what, after 5 channel runs I found it is possible to land a Seneca gracefully.

Hmm, that must have been before my time. The old saying goes that you never land a Seneca1 you only arrive in it, but I have occasionally watched some good S1 landings. By the same token I have also seen some absolute shockers!
BTW was anyone watching SBS last night? They were obviously strapped for things to put on in one of the doco programs, & dredged up footage of the mail run that was done back in the days of ASA/Air North. Mango was at the helm that trip. Loved the narrator's pronunciation of Dulkaninna - nearly peed myself!

Yep, I'll go along with that! Saw her take to the skies a few weeks ago, wish I could have recorded the sound. Only other thing that can get me excited besides the sound of a pair of GTSIO's! ;)

Can remeber FIE when it was operated by Flinders Island Airlines out of MB. They had the Herald contract to Mildura and other northern Victorian locations. There was also a second one FID. Did several runs up to Corowa and across to Swan Hill, then back to MB, landing using the flare path! A real pilots aircraft.

Dogimed 2nd Apr 2008 11:49

FIE was *special..* I think it was the only D18S in country... 3 blades and fabric control surfaces..

Personally I thought it looked better in red.
