just received a response from advize...due to the 200+ applicants they're reviewing test results in batches so just because you haven't received an invite for part 2 don't cut your wrists just yet! i'm still waiting, to finally get out of GA that is!!!

The question related to an A320.

Airbus are fly-by-wire, with self-trimming roll and pitch, which is different than anything in GA.

A recent post here by a B737 Captain describes the difficulty transitioning to an A320.

To go into an important interview without doing as much preparation as possible is silly.

Perhaps your right PETE ,
Have a bit of time on the 320 and it does have a few gizmos compared to the boeings, but it still, flys like any other airplane and in my experience initial assessments are about basic skills and not about ecams or flight control law, or any other airbus silly stuff.

The pros and cons of doing sim prep in a relevant sim should be (and has been) the topic of other thread(s). From these threads you may note that few people believe that there is value in doing a pre-interview sim in anything but a full-motion simulator.

Two examples:

http://www.pprune.org/dg-p-general-a...ance-sims.html

http://www.pprune.org/dg-p-general-a...-sim-prep.html

Plenty of stuff there about the limitations of the simulators such as the one in Darling harbour.

But my problem with you is that you gave poor advice to someone:

@Trev - there is a new Airbus A320 full-size sim on St Kilda Rd Melbourne that is available for hire. It is used for joy flights, familiarisation and training.

I think it costs about $150 an hour for training.

Contact details are email: [email protected]
This advice was wrong. First was price wise. Second, there is nothing on their website about training. A 30 second check on google would have found the employment link where it says that the minimum requirements for a sim instructor for them is a PPL!

Are you seriously telling me that a PPL can give relevant advice on someone who wants to use that sim for the purpose of a job interview?

You gave more advice:

The interview and selection process for airlines generally includes a simulator session.

There are a couple of businesses specialise in preparing applicants for these interviews, for example:

Cabin Crew Interview | Pilot Interview

Part of this preparation often includes time in a simulator, so that when the candidate does the sim ride they are more familiar and can perform better. Call it being better prepared for the interview.
Let's see. Link was okay... non-australian website, but has helped out some aussies. Interestingly, the website you linked only appears to have a 737NG sim ride in any of their packages. And yet...

The question related to an A320.

I imagine that because Tiger and Jetstar use A320s and these airlines probably have the best growth prospects, that this (Airbus) is where the best job opportunities will be.

Time in an A320 sim makes sense to me for airline aspirants.
Written with all the authority of an I.T. professional who's never done an airline interview.

I'm not saying you're wrong with your last point, btw, but you're giving advice that you, personally are not qualified to give.

Anyone else pick up on the inconsistant information from Advize.
One moment its 400+ applicants, now its down to 200+

Anyone been told of their cost towards the sim ride for interview yet?

If you're that negative towards the recruitment process, why are you applying (as it appears)?

Like I said before, when you all filled out that application form, you ticked a box that confirmed your understanding that the first 2 stages were at a cost to yourself.

Guess maybe that's why there were 400+ to start with and now 200+, 200+ who are whinging because they have to pay for Stages 1 and 2.

Tiger

I looked into this position and I am aghast as to what I have found out.

Crawling over each other to pay for an interview for a ramshackle operator for rubbish pay. Even Ryanair is not that bad.

You really have the worst airline industry on planet and its all because there is a queue of pilots willing to climb over one another for a job. The airlines are quite simply capitalising on this and will become a benchmark for the HR of other airlines in the future.Shame as its a great country to live in, but full of not so clever pilots. Big Picture lads!

Unless you've been told otherwise don't assume that you'll be in an A320 for the selection sim. These sim checks are to test your instrument flying skills specifically and other flying tasks such as working in a basic crew, organisation etc. They are not to test your ability to fly the A320 per se.

If they are doing the assessment in Melbourne then my guess would be the 737 classic sim at Ansett. It isn't as busy as the other sims there, has fully conventional controls and round dials. Perfect for an assessment sim.

Hey BBoy

reference your quote - ".....ramshackle operator for rubbish pay."

Whats so bad about $200k for a skipper? Thats not too bad to me. Go stick your sorry fat arse back in GA and tell me then that $200k for a skipper is "rubbish pay."

Lay off guys trying to improve their career. And wherever you may be, earning whatever golden coin a waynker of your high stature deserves - please stay there. (I hope its Kazikstan).

@Trevor the lover

well done mate. not sure of bboys' origins or job status but reaks of an old instructor who doesn't and never will have the ability to progress out of GA and onto bigger and better things.

@bboy

i take it from your ill-informed remark that you haven't read tigers eba? if you had, and compared it to other operators you'd find that although it's not the best of the bunch, it's pretty bloody good and certainly not the worst. not by a long shot.

Why is it that when people try to advance their career everyone else in this industry jumps down their throat.

Yes you have to pay for your testing, same as you do for Qantas & Jetstar (maybe not as much though).

You have to pay for your endorsement. Same as you do for Jetstar and Virgin, the only difference being that you don't pay the interest on the loan per the salary sacrifice agreement.

"Ramshakle Operator"!!! Yes they have had their issues, no one is disputing that. As far as salary goes they don't pay as much as Virgin but they still pay more than Jetstar.

If people remember back, the comments on this thread sound very similiar to ones said when Virgin first started up and now Virign is one of the hottest jobs in Australian aviation.

Why can't we go back to the time when we supported our fellow pilots??

TSRABECOMING I believe you can find the Tiger EBA on the AFAP website.

Passing the interview and paying for the A320 endorsement still does not guarantee you the job...where are those pilots that were in the holding pool before the grounding? The pool was wiped from what I understand.

Hi all,
Ii have done everything including the "Final interview". I think that they are waiting for the ACC announcement at the end of the month. This will determine the expansion plans or not.

I did mine via SKYPE. It was more of a chat than an interview.
