I am guilty of some poor radio form at times however do my best to keep it as per jepps .... but this one gets me ...

"ML ctr ABC departed DEF tracking 000 climbing FLXXX pending clearance ABCDE 47"

rant over.
Time to name and shame.

AirNorth brasilia, Gove to Darwin, Tuesday morning 10/03/09.
Five radio calls on CTAF. Only two were required. No traffic within 20nm.
Plus... "airborne Gove, standby for departure"
And finally
"PENDING CLEARANCE!" from an IFR RPT flight that presumably had submitted a flight notification, and had made a taxi call.

I applaud you.

ITCZ, BN Centre had trouble contacting one of your mates the other day, I think they forgot to Cancel SAR. So they got me to call and call on the CTAF afew times it must have annoyed the other traffic, but a VFR called centre and passed on that the aircraft was on the ground.

Bit poor and shows a lack of basic PPL airmanship when they forget to cancel there SAR, could you bring that up at the next C&T meeting if you wouldn't mind, as you blokes are Skygod's .

ITCZ, just remember turbo prop/piston can fly lot slower in circuit than big fast jet!!!

You seem to hate Air North with a passion, have a bad experience there or just one of those things as they say?

Cool

I felt compelled to reply to this thread since I always joke about it with fellow students. Myself and others tend to think that saying ahhh is just a trick used by those professional types so that they seem calm, collected and cool on the radio whilst conveniently hiding the fact that they are actually struggling to remember what the hell to say. I always noticed that where as a student pilot sounds like an idiot on the radio with long pauses and ummmmmm's the Q Link blokes sound like pros with their ahhhh's or more like uhhhhhh's. That's my 2 cents. I've started doing it myself now when I get stuck on the radio, I recommend it to everyone.

It funny how the wheel goes around, can remember being at Gove one morning and listening to the 717 inbound from DRW, something like 10 calls on the CTAF till on the ground. The amusing thing was that there wasn't any traffic, o I guess he liked the sound of his voice!

"Copied no traffic"

FFS

I think to blame poor RT on inexperienced instructors over simplifies the problem.

If Bloggs has pride in their profession, they'll read the AIP & learn what is required, rather than just attempting to regurgitate everything said in the piss poor and vain hope that they'll get the required bits in there somewhere.

'If you start to increase my workload, and become a distraction to me, not through errors, but by continuous Violation of standard operating procedure, you will hear about it.'

Something everyone can live by.

We all make mistakes. We have all made a dogs dinner of an inbound call for one reason or another. It's when those mistakes are down to being lazy/selfish/etc. that we start to have a problem.

I know you can do your job much better, because I used to do that job myself.

but by continuous Violation of standard operating procedure, you will hear about it.

Comprende?
Man that was good. So punchy and to the point. Respect ITCZ respect.

Personally I don't think the 206 can re enter this thread without looking like a dick. If he can then we are in for great sport.

My point ITCZ, is that we all make mistakes the B717 crew laughed it off, ATS bloke said that it would cost them a carton with which the crew replied times are tough would he accept a six pack, the jet jockeys also passed on their thanks to the humble VFR driver.

No children, small animals were injured and life goes on!!!

No I don't drive a Emb120 for Air North, but I do transit through Gove and just remember turboprop fly slower and a very wide circuit if needed. By that I mean if it help's your guys get in first or fly a wder ciruit to expediate your depature .

Personally I am glad your passengers trust you, by the way you rant and rave on here and have a go at operators, I personally wouldn't get in a car with.

If you flew as a crew member in a Metro and maintained those high speed's until final or pulled the overspeed circuit breaker, perhaps you should have done something about it then like go to the Chief Pilot, management, CASA or were you to worried about keeping it all clean for a good reference for the dream job? Perhaps a liitle bedtime reading and background information on the Metro2/3/23 certification(which is readily available via google), would have caused an intelligent person to question why they risked their own neck and more importatntly the lives of their fare paying passengers. Even if you are sitting in the rhs seat as the glorified radio operator and flap operator your still a crew member of an RPT aircraft. You are a crew member of an RPT aircraft not a test pilot. Fying a clapped out old C210 overlaoded with newspaper's at the back of the clock and killing youself will probably make page 3 of the NT News, kill a plane load of fare paying passengers on an RPT flight and you will find yourself in the national media spotlight vey quickly.

See you in the Gove circuit area soon.

By the way the mob I work for like us to monitor at 60 nm from the non -controlled aerodrome, 1st call at 30 miles, 2nd call at 15 miles, 3rd call at 5 miles then a joining call in the circuit. Hope that's acceptable to you ITCZ, because that's what in the CASA approved ops manual which the company, Chief Pilot and C&T department spent a lot of time and money on.

Have a nice day, and if we are on the ground at Gove at the same time, I'll wonder over and say hello. That way we can put a face to the respective names.

I think some of the Qlink "aaahhhhh" and "uuuummm's" could be put down to the change of callsign in Jan this year. I am avid Jepp reader (not) but like most Pilots at QLink try to ensure that radio calls are as per AIP / Jepp / Company standard, but with this change of callsign and many years of behaviour to unlearn, ie " Centret Sunstate blah blah blah" I have found myself to be an "uuuummmmm" and "aaahhhh" king.

That is my excuse for the radio Nazi's anyway.
