From what Ive been told pilots are hired by CareFlight and are paid above national Air Med crews (RFDS, Pel-Air) with a half/half working schedule. Anyone been called for interviews lately?

You're telling me Careflight pays a B200 pilot >$100k a year?

One turbine islander from Malaysia that is to arrive in the early part of next year, and another, a nomad that is being refurbished as we speak.
This is either a joke or somebody is trying to set a new world record for the most expensive aeromedical operation in history.
The people of the NT should be holding some grave reservations about the competence of those managing the implementation of the new contract.
On the ABC news today:
Bush patients can wait a day for medivac - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I was listening to that on radio national today. It seems it is as we all suspected in the topend.
Even funnier was when they tried to say the reason for the shortage of aircraft was because they are not using single engine aircraft, instead opting for more expensive twins
It seems the PC12 is on the radar again!
Wally, want a job?

GG who was the they you refer to as a matter of interest?
I heard from a very reliable source that the single engines currently roaming around over the west are going to be phased out and the B200 will be phased back in next round of fleet renewal.
FGD the competence of the NTG tender decision making team should be called in to question.

Despite the demonstrated inability of Careflight / Ausjet to do the job and despite the fact that Australia is home to the first, largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation in the world (RFDS), which has also bid for the contract and would give NT communities a better service than they have ever had before, scareflight will still probably get the gig

There was a discussion how there are not enough aeroplanes and how there are unacceptable delays to medivacs.
Some wisecrack stated there reason there were not enough 'planes' was that the 'planes' have to fly all the way to Alice Springs for maintenance and spend more time in the 'shed' there than flying. He then stated there could be more 'planes' if they used the less expensive single engine 'jet prop' types used successfully by the NT police air wing. He stated the Police and ministers have been flying on these 'planes' safely for 10 years without incident. There was some insinuation that the Police air wing should run the medivacs with PC12s (this is me reading between the lines).
A NT health department countered the claim with the reason they fly more expensive twin engine aeroplanes is due to safety. The spokesperson said that the region is one of the most lightening prone areas in the world, and this is why they fly twins.
This was basically the gist of the segment.
Personally, and after much thought, I think Hardy will be the successful tender. They have the Pilots, they have the facilities, and they will get the job done.

ABC tv last night
Careflight have confirmed they have three a/c available at all times.
That is true.
Unfortunately for the unsuspecting public the a/c consist of generally one on again parked more than often again king air,(sometimes more) A Titan out of Katherine with a navajo/chieftain as back up and a conquest here and there.
Do all have stretcher lift availability?
The service is an embarrassment to the NT gov.
PC12's are definitely on the radar.....

thank goodness for a rumors then, 2 inside sources and 2 differing statements.
It is true, that, up until a month or so ago, the intention was to bring twins back into the fleet. Exactly which twin hadn't been decided, but was generally thought to be King Air.
At the moment however, the thinking has swung away from King Airs - which is understandable given the effort and expenditure involved in phasing them out.
There is still an intention to bring some twins back in. But the question of type has gone back to being very open.

The RFDS provide a service far beyond that required for by any contract. They provide their natioanl standard adapted to meet contract T & C's. They also go about their work with pride and consience and can't afford a tainted brand on under contract or otherwise. They are the obvious contender but unfortunately bean counters will have the final say. A cold hard way to treat your population NT government with a risk of going pear shaped.
Lets see. Anyone know when this is to be announced?
Oh yes, whatever you do please go for twins. The day is comming when someone gets bit by a single and it won't look good for those who chose it!

Well I don't know what the NT cops get up to. But I would hazard a guess they don't spend as much time in the air at night and/or in IMC/over water that the NT air am does or would if they were fully operational. Time in those conditions = risk its that simple.

soup nazi. Its always the armchair experts who have never operated the fantas PC 12, that allow their emotions to override the facts. If you even know what they are. Hay Wally. Do you agree.
