I would not have called it an "emotive response" at all......you obviously struck a nerve with PC12togo though.
I liked your phrase "no option by design" as I think that clearly puts aside the 'crew factor' and focuses on the AIRCRAFT's ability to safely perform with an engine failed.
In other words, if the crews were all equally skilled in handling the loss of one engine and thus capable of performing everything without error, who would come off 2nd best?
A possible scenario may be a sea-level cabin transfer which takes you over the Hammersleys in the middle of a dark and stormy night, beyond gliding distance of any lit airstrip.
In the above scenario, it will matter little as to whether the PC12 pilot has handled everything perfectly, as the end result (barring a miracle) will most likely be very unpleasant.
It is the lack of control over factors beyond the Pilots ability and the fact that the aircraft "By Design" leaves you with only one option that makes the multi-engine scenario unquestionably safer.
When they design a PC12 that is GUARANTEED to have an engine that will not fail, then I might change my point of view.......actually they'll need to bump up the climb and cruise speeds as well....Oh Yeah and those frickin seats need to be softened up a bit too...but i do like the trailing link and the 2cup holders in the NG's!

Does anyone have confirmation of when this contract is to be announced? I have heard its the end of June but I have not read that for myself.
When is the proposed start for the new contractor?
As for the single Vs twin thing. The stat that needs to be looked at is what % of twins have inflight shutdowns or failures and fly to a suitable airport for an uneventful landing Vs how many singles do the same. There will allways be some mishap somewhere that was either mishandled or other circumstances that, ie overweight, that caused a fatality. Twins have twice the engines and therefore should experience more failures or shutdowns per flight hour.

NT Government Awards Aero Medical Contract
The Top End Aero-medical Service tender has been awarded to CareFlight, the NT Government announced today.
Health Minister Kon Vatskalis said the 10 year, $25m a year contract means the Top End will have a fully integrated and dedicated aero medical emergency retrieval service delivered by the one provider.
This move brings the service into line with other retrieval services around Australia.

Jamair has just posted the very same two thoughts which I had immediately, upon reading the PR from the Minister's office... It irks me that sadly, I don't expect that his comments will actually come under any "proper" scrutiny (even from the shadow minister).

I was under the impression, and could be wrong, that Ausjet was now only providing aircraft leasing and training for Careflight as they had their own AOC as of a couple of months ago. I believe the plan is for Ausjet to withdraw their aircraft as Careflight introduce their own.
