No fuel at YLEC until further notice...
We found out yesterday that fuel is not available at Leigh Creek due to a problems with the Jet and AVGAS tanks. I apologise if this may have already been reported on pprune.....apparently Brisbane wouldn't put it in as a NOTAM I would hate to hear of pilots rocking up with min fuel on board
Rose the refueller...know to many of us...doesn't know when or if they will be back online. She said 'I'm looking forward to a few days off' ...good ol Rose. BP will make the decision if the pumps will be made into swipe card pumps or if Rose will still be required She is a one of those wonderful characters of aviation....a lot of refuellers out in the bush are.
Cheers, PA

I do not understand why a lack of fuel is not NOTAMed. IIRC, several aircraft became stranded at YPTN during Pitch Black this year because the RAAF Caribous drank all of the Avgas.
It appears that ASA thinks that light aircraft do not need fuel to remain operational. However whenever it affects airline ops it seems to become important enough.
Currently active NOTAM at YPTN:

YPTN as fuel notamed before. regarding avgas as i seem to remeber. It doesn't do it all the time tough, The refuel guy copped it from me big time when he decided to let me wait for half an hour while he was doing his buisnus getting the big tanks filled up.
Mean time i was starting to run out off light at my destination....

if it's the same bloke i came across at TN a coupla years ago, he is a tosser and likely did do it deliberately
gadude, consider yourself lucky if you only had to wait half an hour. As someone mentioned, refuellers do tend to have good memories - next time it might be longer!
gadude, it would be appreciated that you let us know where you're getting to in aviation, so that we can avoid you as far as possible.
From what I've noticed over the last few months, you appear to be nothing but a twit.
Grow up, or you'll be sorted out by those above you as you move along in aviation, by means of ridding of you.

gadude. It has been my experience that the refuelers are also a great source of info to the CP's as to how their new guy's and gal's are going. take note.
They are also great people that go out of their way to help you. So put your ego away and use this as a learning experience..

I am in aviation were I want to be. (pretty much anyway, and no refueler in aussie will stop the drought) And if the CP wants to know something about me he will either ask me or just work with me for a while. Yes I know the refuelers have rules to follow.
They are also human and can just nicely explain why and what the go is.
Not tread anyone like a fricken idiot just because he gets called out to do a job.
As for the CP at the time, I did tell him what happened. and told him (not the refueler however) that maybe I was a little out off line, BUT if there were notams out I would have refuelled earlier in the day.
I won't upset the refuellers on here with the comment I got from the CP.
Apart from TN I never had bad expirience by the way. I do admire the guys and girl. Standing on the tarmac in the stinking heat trying to swap the flies away and put up with complaining pilots. And getting called out at night to refuel medivac planes etc.
I am just a happy chap most off the time.
I just get cranky when people get cranky for no reason other than that they are just doing what they are getting paid for.
I enjoy my work. The day I start to get cranky about it is the day I will tell the misus that I won't be going away to work again and that she will have to put up with me.
Happy refueling
Ps sorry to the refueller in TN if we didn't get on that day
Next time I will politly park up and go to the pub

This no fuel at YLEC is a serious inconvenience. Cracked tanks or something I hear.
Unlikely it will be fixed anytime soon
Now for some ultra-creative flight planning....
And on another topic, is it just me, or do most threads these days seem to turn into slagging matches between posters who seem to be addicted to the 'reply' button? Keep it relevant so we don't have to keep wading through BS to read what is useful.

Do they still have those portable fuel tanks or why not put a tanker in at YLEC?
The local refueller is always the best person to ask about any potential pilot you are going to employ, beats the glowing reference he has written himself, beats any pysch profiling that HR recommends.

Had a *VERY* lucky escape with the no fuel at LEC thing the other week. Was ferrying a machine south and spent the night in Alice. Days previous I'd phoned ahead and confirmed fuel at all my stops, and all was well.
I rang my first stop out of Alice, YOOD, to confirm with the guy that he'd be there, give him an ETA etc. He asked me where I'd be heading too next, which was LEC, and luckily, he told me, that they had no fuel.
After a flurry of phone calls ended up going YOLD - YBHI to avoid LEC. Everyone though was very helpful, especially someone along the line who suggested YOLD, which has PPR etc. and managed to get moving with a new plan for the day in less than an hour.
Would have been a big challenge doing that in YOOD with no mobile phones, while still trying to make it to the final desitantion that day. As it turns out, got to where I was going only a few minutes before last light!

After all the help Rosie has given her customers over the last 20 years it would be nice if some of them helped her out now by lobbying her company to get their finger out & rectify the situation. I'm sure if you rang her she would give you some contact numbers!

Heard from a reliable source yesterday that BP are seriously considering closing down their YLEC operations entirely. I urge anyone that doesn't want to see this happen to start making phone calls to BP ASAP. If you ring Rosie she will give you contact numbers.

You would be wasting your time ringing BP. they shut shop at my airport, without notice and cost me my business. no amount of phone calls or even a bit of media attention would shift them. the $$$$ will win every time with them, regardless of who they step on along the way.
