Mac Air Vs REX

I'm at a stage now where i have all the min req's for entry into the regionals. Except all my ATPL subjects which im working on.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me an insite or their thoughts of which would be the better regional to apply for over the other.

Also anyone who works at either airline be able to answer a few questions and PM me about:

Terms and Cond?
Bonds?
Pay Scale and Leave?
Hours rosted?

This would be most appreciated guys and girls.

Waiting with genuine interest for the replies.

Thanks.

Ps. Maybe D&G Questions would be a better forum for this thread?

i recon you should apply to both and say yes to either that may give you a job. it's a bit presumptious (don't care about the spelling) to say you will be offered postions at both. No matter what it's better than GA!!!

Including allowances, you will make about 48K as Saab FO at Mac, about 70K Capt. Pretty sure Rex pay about 3K/5K on top of Macs.

However, with Rex, you may be living in rip off Syd so at the end of the day, financially you are probably better off in QLD where it does not cost a quarter of a mill for a 1 bedroom dump in the middle of nowhere.

Bear in mind, govt data back in May said the average "full time" salary/wage in Australia is $62,700.

I just can't understand why people are not doing this for a career anymore!?

I can understand once you are in it continuing but i really don't understand people that are starting out these days with the salaries on offer.

By the time you get there the average salary will have over taken the regional captains salary.

New support group starting soon all over Aus and NZ. AA-
Aviators Anon. Subgroup of Alcoholics Anon. So many employees who stay in the business, regardless of everything are exhibiting classic symptoms of addictive personalities. How many times have you tried to kick the habit only to be drawn back in.

M has a fantastic owner and cheif pilot, R has just the opposite, go to M leaves R for dead. Just one point however Townsville is not cheap re houseing due to it being a mineing centre, it has really be done up.

M shortly will have there third Chief pilot in six month, sounds like M still have problems with management still with a high turn over off staff but at least there is a variation of aircraft SAAB, ATR and maybe a couple of Q400(2010) it all depends on what you want in life…….

Gotta' agree with you there Jet_A'

It's ironic that in some measure it's the very stability of REX that makes applying leverage to improve the wages and conditions more difficult. So even though it kills me to see the loss of so many good people that otherwise would have stayed, I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to leave unless they had something "solid" to go to.

If you have the min quals for command upgrade Red', you could still do a lot worse than REX!

That is unless you are interested in a wages and conditions package comensurate with what a professional airline pilot should be paid in 2008. Now that's another story!

The other has...

a new owner with very, very deep pockets. Hopefully we'll be able to prove the old adage wrong "how do you make a small fortune in aviation? Start with a big one..." The one benefit of working for a privately owned company is that there is no pressure to pay healthy dividends to the share holders. Some companys have been known to shed thousands of workers to keep the shareholders happy. Terry has a plan for this company and has hired the people to get the job done. I am sure he knows there will be some growing pains, but with his type of liquidity, it would be hard to spend more than he's actually earning from his other interests. I am stoked Qlink put a hold on hiring... it put me right where I wanted to be. Plenty of extra aeroplanes turning up over the next year or so. Time will only tell, but the future looks good...

Can anyone confirm rumours M is not getting its next ATR?

have also heard they are very slow payers at the moment.

Maybe the deep pockets are shortening already to maintain a large fortune.

Slow payers to other companies is one thing (Fuel, Catering, etc...), but if the pay (and I hope not) is to staff, then ouch...! Can you confirm which one it is pundit?

Delay in wages to staff can, and always has meant one thing. The whole shooting match is about to go t!ts up.
