Maybe a bit off topic, but...
Can anyone suggest a place to stay at (close proximity) whilst doing the QANTAS testing/interviewing?
I have found/been referred to the Hotel Forumle 1, and it looks like it will be my choice. I am wondering if anyone knows about how far it is from Formule 1 to the QANTAS testing base? Walkable?
Thanks

Tell IBIS you want a Q or other airline rate and it's about $125/night.....3 minute walk. Holiday Inn don't do very good deals.
Formula 1 do a combined dinner stayover package with a can of coke and a packet of corn chips fom the vending maching

atminimums
It is difficult to get a good nights rest at F1 some nights, not always.
It is cheapest however which can often be the deciding factor
Good Luck

You can get the stop watch out the night before and do a dummy run!
Don't get there too early as the security guy won't let you up until the clock hits 8:30....or what ever time you have on your letter.
Good luck and may the force be with you

I was so nervous the morning of the testing I paid for the 18 dollar breakfast at the Ibis and ate about half a muffin and a couple pieces of pineapple..
atminimums, are you going for the testing or interview, and which course?

If you DO get there early, the cafe over the road (and to your left) does a very good breakfast and excellent coffee.
Don't over-do the coffee.

Phatmike i had a similar experience. Too nervous too fired up not enough food or sleep and all the hard work was wasted on a tired brain on the day.
I guess its the old saying that if you want it too much you'll never get it. Those that just rock up with less care factor seem to do better.
In a strange way I did kind of enjoy some of the preparation. It was great to see the results and improvement over time.

g'day guys,
went through the DE interview/sim stage for mainline way over a month ago now, and like most people haven't heard anything yet.
i have since been offered a regional airline gig and was wondering whether it was worth calling up qf recruitment and letting them know, or is this an easy way for them to get rid of my application?? have been told by many just to give em a call and it might even speed up the process....
any advice?
cheers

It's always worth giving them a call. However, seeing as they have people with letters of intent from before April and revised recruitment figures due out this week that will definitely see a reduction in course numbers for the coming months, I don't know if I would hold my breath for a start date this side of the next 6-9 months. I would base my decision on the bonding period/cost of joining the regional and be calling them asking for a delayed start date to wait for the decision from Qf, IF that's more important to you than the start with the regional.
Calling QF recruitment a year ago and bargaining against a start date with another airline (especially Cathay, Virgin and Tiger) definitely made a difference. These days I'm not so sure they would jump to get you to their side of the field. The balance of supply vs. demand due to the backlog in training that existed a couple of months ago and the reduction in course numbers has seen the scales tip the other way a bit.

Take the regional job BUT don't tell them you're waiting for QF.
IF QF say yes, it will be for over 12 months away... you will enjoy flying the Dash or SAAB or whatever in the meantime and it will broaden your experience.
Congratulations on the regional post and good luck for QF! No news is always good news

thanks guys...i'm in no rush and I don't really want to over step people that have been waiting on a letter of intent for quite some time now. I figured though by letting QF know my postion it won't necessarily speed up the process given the current recruitment climate, but was told it is still good to keep them "in the know" with your whereabouts..

Time from application to start seems to be different for everyone. Between '05 and '07 QF wasn't employing, so an application was usually responded with a "please update in 6/12 months". I first applied with the mins reqs at the end of '05 and finally recieved a psych test invite after my 4th update in mid '07 once the wave of employment commenced again. Started a few months ago. So to answer your question, about 8 months from psych invite. That seemed to be normal for most on my course.
With recruitment slowed, course numbers reduced, many people sitting on letters of intent and cadets joining without industry placement, the amount of time could blow out to closer to 12 months. The figure of 100 SOs required for the A380 for next year seems to making the rumour rounds - only a rumour though! If true, the process MAY speed up again next year.
