Looking at PATS latest 'hook' for attracting potential cadets, I was quite amused at the following statement:
(Source)
IMO, that has to be the statement of the year.
This program creates an enormous amount of jealousy from the GA community as the reality is that the vast majority of GA pilots will never fly for Qantas - hence the reason many people knock this program.
IMO, that has to be the statement of the year.

Someone thinks the situation will improve!?
The cadetship doesn't cost them much, it will take 5 years for the cadets to 'mature' and they are only taking 6 for the Swinburne course and I would imagine similar numbers up in Brisvegas.
Basically in 5 years they will have 12 pilots who can be offered a job but QF are under no obligation to do that.
I think it's a case of cheaper to keep things ticking over and have a few pilots ready to plug any gaps in case the market changes direction sooner rather than later thanks to the magician Krudd.

I was sitting in the fence as to whether to even apply or not, but I thought well you have to be in it to win it (although the win is not even that good anyway).
Missed out in the first round, my psychometric assesment didnt go so well, although qantas were happy to charge me $220 for the privilege of taking an online assesment at home for their company. Which as far as I'm concerned is daylight robbery, although I knew about that going in so I'm the fool there.
Anyway I do wish the people going to Sydney for further testing the best of luck.

Crikey Ozzie Mozzie!
I applaude your honesty, but let me get this straight. You take the time to do a Qantas Psycho test at home on your computer, and pay them 220 bills just for the privilidge to be told sorry but no thanks! Christ! Talk about one being born every minute!
If there was a genuine requirement by Qantas for cadets at the moment, if they didn't have a well documented history of jerking people around, I could almost understand it.
My advice is to concentrate on the only tangible beginning to a long career. Go out and learn to fly. Unless you were born with a silver spoon, I don't think you can afford to be wasting hard earned cash by giving it to snake-oil salesmen!

Made it to Sydney for Interview. With the cost of flights there and back, medicals, on line test, accommodation etc I think i am probably out of pocket by over $1000. Then i get an email saying:
After careful consideration and review of your application and results obtained during the Cadet recruitment process, we regret to inform you that your application has not reached the final stage of the selection process. It has been determined that other applicants more closely meet our criteria and requirements for ongoing assessment for the 2010 Cadet positions.
We may retain your candidate file in our database and may inform you of job openings that match your profile. We also invite you to visit the Career Section on our website regularly for future positions.

We thank you for your interest in the Qantas Cadet Pilot Program and we wish you all the best for your future career endeavours.
Thats it not even a letter or feedback or anything.

What are you on about? You got an email didn't you? Tell me which airline gives feedback after an interview? The costs involved are or should've been a calculated risk. If you had made it you'd be singing a different tune. Get over it and enjoy you're time in GA

GOLD!
This quote:
From someone who's handle is WannabeQF
On a more serious note:
Suethecat, you've received a fairly standard "Thanks but no thanks" response.
You'll never get a detailed feedback from QF on why you weren't successful. I've known plenty of people who've applied for QF mainline, QF cadets, Qlink, and REX, and the reject letters are "substantially similar" to the response you got. The reason for this AFAIK, is to reduce the potential for litigation by failed applicants.
It's too bad that you're out of pocket, but that's the risk that you take. If you were successful, you'd be a very happy suethecat right now, and would have considered your money well spent.
Krusty, I had exactly the same thing for my Rex interview: Fly down from Darwin, pay for the sim, do the interview, fly back to Darwin. Total cost of around $750.00. Three days later I get a very similar email from Rex "Thanks but no thanks. Apply again in 12 months". I rang and questioned them (I'd thought I'd blitzed it) but no details on why I wasn't successful.
It's how you deal with the rejection that counts.
12 weeks later Qlink: Fly down from Darwin, pay for the medical, do the interview, fly back to Darwin. Total cost around $800.00. I thought that I'd stuffed it, but I got the job.
Chin up and keep flying, is my advice.
DIVOSH!

For anyone reading, the above two quotes in Bo777 and Di_Vosh's posts are quoted directly from 'WannabeQF' post who has obviously subsequently removed his/her post out of embarrassment (and with good cause).
Feel free to look up other posts from from WannabeQF to read the fantastic lies and contradicting stories that appear.
How are those thousands of hours jet time going with helping you get a job up north whilst applying for cadetships WannabeQF?

Qantas Pilot Recruitment has recently completed the final review of its Cadet program requirements for 2011. After careful consideration we have informed our Industry Partners of our intention to suspend all proposed Cadet programs for 2011. We acknowledge that this message will disappoint candidates interested in Cadet opportunities for 2011 however the decision has been based on numerous internal and external factors which we believe warrants the suspension of all courses.
Qantas Pilot Recruitment will continue to review Cadet opportunities beyond 2011.
Further information relating to 2012 Cadet opportunities will be made available on this website no later than 31 July 2011.
Information current as at 8 September 2010

If anyone could shed some more light on this, I'd be interested.
After graduating from high school in 2003, went on a gap year and travelled around the world a few mates. In 2005, I became a Qantas cadet. One of my mates who also wants to become a Qantas pilot decided to study Economics/Law @ USyd and then apply after graduating. This is his graduating year so he's gutted. But the way the industry is turning out, perhaps he made the sensible choice

Pardon my insensitivity, but on my graduation from high school I went to work as a labourer, and then spent the next decade working 2-3 jobs to eventually fund a career in flying. No overseas jaunts for me as a teenager!
I hope the Cadetship and subsequent career with Qantas is all you hoped it would be flyhigh744. As for your mate, most here will probably find it difficult to sleep knowing he's been gutted, but if he really want's a career in flying he'll do it. Just maybe though he'll have to spend a little more time and sacrifice to get there. Unless of course he's still interested in shortcuts, Jetstar will probably be the only Qantas group of companies taking on Cadets for the forseable future. Pity about the pay and conditions though.
Mmm...? On the other hand, I think Cactusjack is probably right.
