My thoughts are that information relating to the 2010 Qantas Cadet Pilot Program will be made available at qantas.com by 30 April 2009.

By the way, a cue is something presenters and actors etc use before going live. A queue is a line of people.

Just wild unsubstantiated speculation but I think there is a good chance that, regarding the 2010 cadetship, Qantas will either announce that another review will take place later (perhaps Feb 2010 when the 1H10 financial results are out) or that there won't be a need in 2010 for more courses, at least definitely not 4. I think the recovery and subsequent expansion of the fleet won't happen for a while. If anything I expect there will be further capacity cuts before the end of the year.

Have heard in the last week that the last bunch from Adelaide who finished in October haven't been been idle. One has completed an FIR, 4 others are doing one atm...

I wonder what those Adelaide cadets' seniority numbers will be like, considering they are not doing their CIPP with one of the Qantas approved operators.

Im thinking that by the time they finish their CIPP, if they ever get it, they wont be getting their seniority numbers anyway... !!?? surely the eba will get rid of it.

i heard that a bloke doing cipp up north at the moment was told 2 expect to be doing cipp for longer than 1st anticipated, as QF has no spots 4 him or any others out there. They would probably have DE hours by the time they r finished!!

Haha, at least they know qantas is going to hire them in the future and they are getting paid flying in the mean time. The cadets about to graduate are probably getting told by Qantas to go and find a job themselves for CIPP.

Flight training

I passed the Stage 2 aptitude tests for the Cadetship but missed out this year. I'm thinking of doing the commercial cadet program in 2010 or 2011- can anyone advise what the good training schools are in Melbourne for doing a CPL/CIR ? (ie. not too expensive but the instructors are reasonably competent).

If there's another thread somewhere that answers this question, where can I find it ?

Physics was dropped two (give or take) years ago from both Cadetship and DE.

Given todays news I'd say you can pretty much bet your pension that Qantas will cancel the September intake. Also I think there is a very reasonable chance that some of 2010's commercial courses won't go ahead.

ROFLMAO. I only started my (assigned) annual leave yesterday but I don't recall seeing any announcements of the sort last week. I've just had a quick look at the QF intranet site and nothing mentioned there. Given the amount of accrued annual leave in the system I don't reckon you'll be seeing lay offs in the pilot ranks within at least the next six months or so. Further, our award requires the affected members to be given six months notice. Note that I think this only applies to those who have checked to line so those who are still TSOs may be in a different boat.

Still, no notice (yet) of intent to make redundant.

Palindrome,
not sure where you heard that little rumour but you might want to check your sources. I'm a TSO at the moment hence given the last in, first out principle I should be one of the first to go if layoffs occur. Yet I haven't heard a thing. Needless to say though I am sitting on egg-shells at the moment and my heart jumps every time the phone rings.....

My guess is the cadet versus DE debate will become a "level playing field" in time to come.
