The Rape Of Jandakot Bushland
Recently I started this thread which developed into a discussion about what I feel can only be described as the rape of the bushland around YPJT. There are some before and after photos in there and some interesting comments. I am staggered by the amount of destruction which has taken place and wonder at the mentality of those who could contemplate and condone such activities. Please read the relevant parts of the other thread then continue to publish your thoughts and opinions here.
I'll be going home very shortly but will do my best to keep up with developments whilst I am away from Oz. Don't let them destroy any more of the bush it is far too precious.

Unfortunately it sounds like JAH (aswell as WAC) have discovered the commercial benefit in developing airport land for commercial lease, instead of developing the airport itself
Maybe they are developing to raise revenue for future development of the airport facilities (but I doubt it).

JAH seem to be choosing to disregard most aspects of the masterplan (ie. new runway, maintaining and developing existing facilities etc.), but latching right on to the part of the masterplan they feel will bring them the big bucks. The development of this land has been in the masterplan since 2000 or so. That seems to be the only part of it they have read.
It's almost as if they are real estate developers, rather than the operators of an airport. Oh, wait... They ARE real estate developers, my mistake.
Any bets on whether the airport will actually see any of the money raised from the development of the land?

They've only cleared 90 hectares...there is stil another 60 to go!!!!
I used to like that drive into JT, but now...ugly. Downwind RWY 24R gives you a great view of the destruction so far...and a chance to see which trees will be next to go.

There has already been one article in a community paper (the canning/Melville Times, from memory)
One of the better known airport rascals who also lives very near to the airport was pictured with the destruction in the background. Fairly good sized article, ashame no one reads these papers.
I have no doubt that the more we complain about it the faster it will go.
Who do you think is paying for all this destruction, there go the parking fees again, another XXX% increase.
They will get what they wan't, one way or another.

Far Kern money hungry south afro kerns. I can't believe this country right now. It has gone to ****e
Read a comment in the paper this weekend that was spot on:
"Australians now live in an economy, not a society"
Most people will sell their grandmother if they can get a big screen TV out of it. Shame!!!
All that bush around YPJT SHOULD have been protected. It is / WAS old banksia - you know how long it takes to grow banksia??? AND it is on top of a water table.
I wonder if the infamous Brian Bourke is on the JAH xmas card list
These people - JAH - should be charged with environmental rape.

Should also be charged with the cost of washing all the aircraft and cars, and cleaning the layer of dirt that coats all surfaces in our workplace, thanks to them woodchipping on a wet, windy day.
Funny how there is still a major objector to the position of proposed runway, and with good reason for them, which couldn't be put South of the existing due to "bush forever"...which I am told can only be swapped "like for like"...so lets get rid of anything like it and then we may not have to build the new runway.....
To me, the sign at the entrance, proclaiming Jandakot a "commercial development" rather than an "airport", and now the moonscape that was home to endangered flora and fauna, just shows what kind of people we are dealing with, and now we all have to be visually reminded of their greed every day. Apparently the whole lot is to be flattened. So there is plenty more dirt to be blown onto us.
Yet they haven't got the resources to mow the grass in the parking areas!
Apparently the bush that is gone is to be replaced by concrete monstrosities surrounded by nice little lawns and shrubs (that need watering) and car parks.
Some interesting stuff can be found in Hansard from Thursday 1 March, house of reps, re development at airports.

Led Zep, is there any chance that you, or any of the other ladies or gentlemen flying out of YPJT, could post an up to date aerial photo? I won't have the chance to take any before I return home. I find the drive into Jandakot most upsetting these days, as flightfocus says, there used to be so much beautiful Banksia around. Jandakot was the first place I saw Banksia.
Seasonally Adjusted
Just saw it for myself, looks like a nuclear device was activated near the former golf driving range.
All in the name of progress.
I wonder what part the EPA and CALM, (now DEC) had to play in this mess.

I tried to copy an image but can't do so. Have a look at this website In the "City, address, landmark" box put "Hope Road, Jandakot, West Australia" and click to search. When the picture appears use the "hybrid" facility -map and aerial photo combined, then keep moving to the right hand end of Hope Road (you can do this by a single click on the picture, hold it and then move it). You will see a photo of the area taken before it was all grubbed up. It is beautiful bushland which no longer exists. Progress? I think not.
Who says you need high wings for aerial photos??
Ground shots
And now for some ground shots of the dust bowl. Remember that there is still more to be cleared!
And for good measure, why not follow this link and then click "The Developer":
http://www.jandakotcity.com.au/index.asp
ps edit: ****, click on any of the sublinks on the page and prepare to vomit. "Environmentally sound"?!?!?!?!

Haven't seen this little guy since the trees went
Silly me for thinking there was an airport here...could have sworn that was an Air Traffic Control tower in the background

Clare, I'm pleased to tell you I saw him (or one of his rellies) on Saturday when I took my niece for a trial lesson. He is, however, only one of what used to be, and hopefully still is, a small group. The whereabouts of the rest are unknown. He has still got a little bit of bush (which will NOT be ripped out) next to Minovation where his presence is valued.
Thank you for the photos everyone even if they do make miserable viewing.

Thanks for the link Led Zep. Nauseating to the extreme.
I love the 'environment' sublink.
Combine that with the photos of smiling families, hand in hand, blissfully strolling down grassed hillsides and you have a very unoriginal piece of developers marketing sh!te.
One other thing I noticed when viewing this site...not one mention of Jandakot Airport, bit odd really when the 'development' sits smack-bang along side it.

Sustainability and the community have been key priorities from the outset in the design of Jandakot City. Quality, efficiency and environmentally sound principles have been integrated into every part of the development process.
