Here's my observation of Crit Reynolds piccy....18 people/9 say 'spotter',that would be around maybe 50% imposters,3 appear to be wimmun, which proves aeroplane photos are not just for blokes. They must be waiting for that big Airbus to get out of the way so that they can get a good shot of the little lime one. The security escort told them if they so much as put ONE toe on the red line they would be charged with terrorism. The Cathay aircraft has the tallest ADF receiver I've ever seen....must make a howl at cruise.

I,for one,am SO pleased spotters exist. In years BC (before computers),we had to look in library books & magazines....now I can waste hours on my pewter.

I don't wanna taint the thread, however if you do a search for "plane spotters muppets" you will get the idea.

VH-XXX wrote in the Oshkosh thread.

'For those with iPhones there is a LiveCam app with user controllable views of oshKosh airport, pretty cool.'

So in other words you are also one of those 'muppet spotters'.

Grow up you hypocrite.

These people like to look at and photograph aircraft, good on them.

After the collective dumbing down of our industry by politicians, airlines and the pilots themselves with the race to the bottom ( buy the worst paid job at Virgin, jetstar etc etc etc ), we should be happy that anyone is still interested in what we do.

With over 2000 posts on this site I would suggest you like to talk about and look at aeroplanes - just like the 'muppet spotters' you mock.

So what are your other esteemed ' cool ' interests Mr XXX ?

There is a big difference between Spotters and Enthusiast. Spotters, from what I have witnessed, have no professional links or hands on experience in relation to aviation. Be it a pilot, cabin crew or bag chucker. They are just interested if a carriers latest aircraft has had it's first visit, write it down on a pad, share with their mates or get their pics in Aus Av. Plus they are damn rude as I have mentioned before.
XXX is like 99% of people with a real passion for flying. If you don't wet yourself with what's available at Oshkosh, you're in the wrong hobby/interest/profession!

Save it for another thread please Sagan, this is not the place. Start another one if you feel strongly about it.

I have no problem with spotters except that some of them tend to be pushy rude pr*cks. A bit like you really.

I remember going to Avalon the year the Russians came out in those Sukhoi Mil jets and it rained (strangely). There was this bloke there with the worlds best camera...He had all the gear on, flight jacket, helicopter baseball cap, raybans, the backpack and was listening to one of those aviation portables as one of the jets taxied past...

Thinking this bloke knows what's happening I asked him.." Are they about to fly? Are they speaking in Russian mate?'"
His reply.." Go and get your own F....n portable you idiot..." Later that day I spilt a beer on him....Oh, and if you're reading this...sorry mate, it was an accident...

Good...now,on with more piccys please. Please if anyone has some photos in the cupboard, get them out & put them up for all to see. Doesn't matter if they are old & faded, they will most probably jog someone's memory & a whole new & interesting story will unfold. Mention names if in a positive way,& if not so good just use 'a certain bloke'.

Now,less jibber jabber & more pictures...on with the show......

This one is from Australia's North, Feb 09- and I only throw it up to try and smoke the "Good Dr" out, who- before he went 'moving pictures'- once had a plethora of stills............. taken over a Continental.........
