Had to put my tail between my legs and run back to Daru on the Daru Kerimah leg. First time I ever saw clouds forming from the trees, then I never saw 50 miles of thunder storm that early in the morning either
The kerimah pom leg wasn't without its own challenges either.
7000+ hrs and 13yrs and that was some of the most challenging stuff I have ever seen. Loved it all. very eye opening around the goroka, hagen, simbu area. very easy to see why people die there on a regular basis.

yeah!

I can still hear his dulcet tones saying that the beancounters thought we were stealing 10,000 bucks a month!

Utter rubbish. Did they think we were real crooks, I thought that it was half that amount.

May the great health and wealth gods treat you favourably in twothasandandsex Max.

For those who remember him....Ray Ravenhill , from the KLM management team days at Pixie , passed away in June 2005 , apparently he had Alzheimers .

Wiz

Wiz, Post Courier said you were under house arrest for that one, true or false?
Also the LikLik Balus is still parked out the front of the hangar and not tied down, just waitin for a nice strong wind to flip it over.
Did you ferry it all the way from Perth?
Jacksons Radar has been out since October due to "Maintenance"

Re: PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok

Hehehe. Don't believe every thing you read, although there was a grain of truth in the story.
that lik lik balus bilong em bilong simbu isn't my drama anymore. It was deliverd as promised and then the keys were handed over (although I think customs were looking for some money any may have relieved them of the keys).
Yup!. all the way from Perth.
Now I know about the radar......it was just dumb.

Re: PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok

Not "house arrest" per se, but he was relieved of his passport for a while!

No Chuck, it wasn't for GP.
Wiz was ferrying a very VERY old C172 - part of a crazy plan to provide flying training somewhere up there. The rest of the plan involved using a couple of C206s flying coffee into Kundiawa from places about 15 minutes flying time away.

Every chance ya get, Aye mate.
It was all as Ozex says it was. but there was some fun too.
Passport was returned about 12 hours later when they realised I wasn't a gun runner just up from oz........ without passing through customs in Daru....... Even though there was a PNG customs stamp clearly stating DARU.
Ah, the land of the unexpected. (As I was when I arrived)

Talking Re: PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok

Only when I'm given the opportunity Wiz!
I'd been busily monitoring flight plans on the day in question so, yes, you were very much "unexpected"! But all's well that ends well eh?

Chuckles, I was busy digesting a beautiful Kakaruk dinner, beautifully cooked my Mrs. TD, when a nasty bout of coughing brought her running. It was me reacting to you mentioning the Frenchman. As you recall he wanted to clap you and I in Irons for what we did to his 185.!!

Re: PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok

But ya wanna know what REALLY pissed The Frog off?
Some months later he gave himself a double engine failure taking off from Tapini in his Islander...on tip tanks and DCA grounded him for some time...maybe a month or two....pax report from memory.
He was absolutely spluttering with rage...."But you deed not ground Shuck for dese forced landing on der road????"

"That's because Chuck's a good bloke who learnt from it...you're a moron!!!" (quote from feeney but probably embellished with white wine ) And as they suspected it wasn't THAT much later he rolled an Islander up in a ball at Kamalai...but walked away unscathed

Ahh the good old days

And we didn't put hardly a scratch on his 185....not compared to arriving on the road upside down...and to this day I can't work out why we didn't

And Oseah Philimon got about 1/2 the blurb right.

'Cos the hook stretched, and let the wire that we hit, release, that's why we didn't end up on our backs Chuck. I still have the Pic of you holding the said hook. I will give you a copy when we meet.
By the way, remember the Brothers trying to steal everything....headsets, plogs, pencils etc.?? Looks like the guy in yhe newspaper cutting, bottom right, is either going for the guy in front's bum..........or his wallet.!!

Re: PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok

Chuck Are you sure that the above mentioned incident at Kamulai was after the one at Tapini? I seem to remember that it occurred before as when I started working for RR in July 91 the remains of the Islander were already in a heap at the side of the strip at Kamulai and that later on the Frog pulled the stunt at Tapini.
I went finish (involuntarily) in March 92 but can still remember hearing the scuttlebut at the Club Dero one fine Friday evening of the Tapini incident, direct from one of his employees!
