Certainly operated as MHE . I flew it in Feb and March 1982 for the Shipping / Logging Company.

Hijack in PNG
Something more recent, although the same old same old.
We were getting robbed and hijacked at gun point in the early 90's. Plenty more probably had the pleasure earlier than that.
Worth a listen, it brought back a few memories...

NUGIDU
http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...ofDSC01557.jpg
Does anyone remember Nugidu airstrip about 8k North of Finchhafen? I landed there in July 1972 in a 260hp Bonanza. The strip was about 2000ft long and within walking distance of Ted Foad's house, the base for his business retrieving wartime salvage. I believe he owned a small charter (one Aztec) business also.
The story is that the area was cleared during the war and was used to store supplies/equipment etc. offloaded from ships. Sometime after the war the coronos strip was easily built.

Nugidu
Nugidu was well and truly closed when I first visited in '99. I used to regularly swim off the point at the end that had a small sandy beach with some overhanging trees for shade. I remember there being a nice view of the old missionary house on the side of the hill with a small spire.
I heard it was used to house chickens after being left derelict.
The old runway has some tar on it and you drove on a part of it to get to the beach at the end.

P2-GKA
Great photos.
One of them is a photo of P2-GKA outside Hawker Pacific at Bankstown. It had come there after (I think) a wheels up in PNG, and as an apprentice I was part of the team fixing it. I was left to do the retractions when it was nearly finished and a retract (or extend, can't remember now) rigid line failed due to corrosion. I made another one and put it in and completed the tests including the emergency extensions.
Don't remember why now but the blow down bottle had been removed and reinstalled by me, but I didn't know to put lockwire around the P clip holding the cable. The aircraft went on a test flight and another hydraulic line failed because of corrosion, no problem - blow the gear down. Except they couldn't because the emergency extension cable slipped through the clip and couldn't move the lever on the blow down bottle.
After trying all sorts of things they landed the aircraft at Bankstown with the mains down but the nose up. Pull out the engines again and replace the props again and replace some skins again because I didn't put lockwire around a P clip.
Learnt that lesson. Wonder if that photo was taken the first or second time it was finished. Would have been about 1982 or 1983.

Nugidu
Ted had the salvage rights to ? miles of coast line in the area. Frank Minjoy & Peter Evans? teamed up with Ted to start Helitrans and brought a Super Frelon into Ningerum in 70s on the OkTedi project. They later based Cairns for some years with fixed wing (Volpar & Chieftain) & rotary wing. (Pilots Besty & Crooky!!!)

402C had hydraulic gear run by an electric motor
GKA... It's not a B model. Were the short nose models a 402 or a 402A?
I have flown GKA, but too far back to recall which model!
