Does anyone remember Nugidu airstrip about 8k North of Finchhafen? I landed there in July 1972 in a 260hp Bonanza. The strip was about 2000ft long and within walking distance of Ted Foad's house, the base for his business retrieving wartime salvage. I believe he owned a small charter (one Aztec) business also.
The story is that the area was cleared during the war and was used to store supplies/equipment etc. offloaded from ships. Sometime after the war the coronos strip was easily built.
