Rust. They pulled it off the trailer, the thing was not running. I'm curious how Russia, with a GDP equal to Italy, expects to win a war of attrition of material against the western supported Ukraine - I do understand the population differences. The Russkies have upped their projected military 2023 expenditures to $100 billion, which is 1/3 of the entire Russian budget. Keep the pressure on.

Same way they repelled the Germans - build a wall of Russian corpses to hide behind and add to it any Russians who try to refuse to take part.

Sirens and explosions as well as the activity of Russian Air Defense batteries are ongoing near Shaykovka AFB in the Kaluga region of Western Russia.

The Base is home to the 52nd Heavy Bomber Regiment of the 22nd Guards Heavy Bomber Division which is equipped with Tu-22M3 “BackFire” strategic bombers.

T-10 tank of the Russia Army
The T-10 (also known as Object 730 or IS-8) was a Soviet heavy tank of the Cold War, the final development of the IS tank series. During development, it was called Object 730. It was accepted into production in 1953 as the IS-8, but due to the political climate in the wake of Stalin's death in 1953, it was renamed T-10.

The only thing I could think of would be to bury it up to the turret and use it as a fixed point pill box on the line, as Germany did during the war.

Fascinating site below BTW, I read it often.

Oh come on, let's be reasonable, it's possible that the Ukranians died laughing!

So Russia is fighting a war of attrition with a nation with just under a third their population, but with the support of most of the western world.
I suspect their game plan at this stage amounts to clinging on until they can get Trump over the line in 15 months time and into power in January 2025, at which point US support will evaporate.

Does anyone else find it astonishing that the world has reached a point where Russia's future quite likely hinges on:
A) The support of the US GOP
and thus
B) The outcome of a racketeering trial in Fulton Country, Georgia?

Yes. It's a bizarre world.

I find it really odd that there are many, many reports of T72, T64 tanks rotting in storage with (one figure I recall ) perhaps 10% usable following theft, cannibalisation, faked maintenance records, that they can still drag out working examples that are 60 years old. Even lf it lacks sensitive electronics, it still has bearings and other moving partsthat will seize up if not turned/lubricated. Perhaps there are storage depots manned and run by competent and dutiful Russian soldiers.

It has a powerful 122 mm cannon which uses two-part ammunition, so that will presumably be at least 40 years old: who thinks that 's going to be reliable ?

All the soviet tanks post T62 have two-part ammunition. DIfference is that from T64 onwards it has an autoloader.

The T62 did have a one part ammunition but the ammo was too long to be handled easily in the cramped loading area inside the turret.

Plenty of compatible 122mm howitzer ammo around - people qualified and brave enough to sit in the turret to load, aim and fire a round through a rusted up 40+ year old barrel probably not so much…

With a bit of luck it will blow its own turret off and save UKR the time and effort.

whoops, i guess finland is out as a vacation spot for russians

" 🇬🇧🇫🇮 A Russian citizen, one of the leaders of the Rusich sabotage and assault reconnaissance group, Yan Petrovsky, was detained in Finland, MTV3 reports.

According to the channel, Petrovsky is suspected of crimes in Ukraine in 2014-2015, Kyiv has requested his extradition.

The Russian embassy was informed about the detention of a Russian in Finland at the request of Kyiv, and is taking measures for consular assistance, RIA Novosti was told in the diplomatic mission.

Russian neo-nazi, Jan Petrovskiy, the leader of Rusich unit along with Aleksey Milchakov, was detained in Finland, according to local news.

Rusich Telegram channel (ran by Milchakov and other admins) says he was detained a month ago and that more detailed comment will follow.

Lots of rumors have been running around today. The latest information is beginning to provide some clarification. This was posted 6-hours ago:

"On the Orekhovsky segment (Robotyne AO), the APU is getting closer to Tokmak. Information is being received that the second line of defense of katsapni has been broken in two sectors of the front.

Fighting is underway in the villages of Novoprokopovka and Novopokrovka. The Ukrainian armed forces are getting closer to the villages of Verbovo and Kopani.

The orcs are still trying to snap back, but they can't change the situation on this front. The rashists have very large losses, and there is nowhere to replenish fresh meat.

It is reported that the katsaps began evacuating the FSB Department and headquarters from Tokmak. That is, they are doing badly and they no longer believe that they will keep Tokmak."

Greece has terminated their contract with Russia for the technical support and maintenance of the Tor-M1 and Osa-AKM air defense systems and may be about to ahem, give them to someone else we might know.
