6 months training for F-16
6 months that could have been done already.

Pure disingenuous obfuscation and deliberate delaying tactics, which have been discussed above.

The tech manuals could have been translated in a week, bilingual flight and tech trainers were available six months ago. But nooooo, certain people in the west did not want Ukrainian pilots and tech crews trained onto F16 and similar western aircraft. And as we know these were not necessarily military people, they were most likely in political positions and became the "useful idiots" for the enemy.

There is also the arrogance that assumes that Johnny Foreigner cannot possibly understand our technology without a six month conversion course. This is war. Get over yourselves and train them to battle status. They are not flying in a military air display.

And so lives on the blue side are lost,

Russia is dragging the bottom of the barrel in an attempt to prevent the mobilisation of Russians by mobilising passport holding foreign workers.

Sort of like the old scam of offering 'honorary military rank' to civilians only for them to later find out they had enlisted by accepting the rank and would be called to active duty, civilians no more. The ROTC system at American universities back in the Viet Nam days was the same deal; some schools required ROTC enrollment to attend. After graduation you were theirs for, IIRC, three years...... Hello Saigon.

During the Battle of Britain peak there were Spitfire pilots sent into combat with only 10 hours of flight time.

Pilot hours

Some of the courageous pilots of the RAF may have only had 10 hours of Spitfire flying before going operational but they had already flown between 150 and 250 hours of basic flying training.

10 hrs total flight time and handling a Spitfire or Hurricane - are you serious? I can't believe I'm reading this on a professional pilots forum.

And I imagine that the F16 has rather more complex flight and weapons systems that the pilot needs to master than the Spitfire.

Are these new pilots never flown a jet or jet pilots converting. If converting wouldn't the Russian type be similar in operation?

Whichever is the case, you would be doing Ukrainian pilots no favours by sending them into combat with an incomplete understanding of the aircraft's systems.

I am more than a litle bemused by the thirst for F-16s in Ukraine...What could a F-16 do that a Mig-29 could not? especially in air to air mode..and AFAIK the Mig-29 has been modified to cary lots of Western ordnance?
I must be missing something! Or is the F-16 the panacea that Ukraine needs to win the war?
