God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her Victorious,
Ark Royal and Glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen!

O lord God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their knavish tricks,
Confuse their politics,
On you our hopes we fix,
God save the Queen!

Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world ov'er

From every latent foe,
From the assasins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, prince, and friend,
God save the Queen!

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign!
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!

Long may she reign indeed, trouble is when she's gone our monarchy isn't going to be as strong, not a belief or even an opinion, but a fact.

In the years following the Falklands War I had sorely wished that we could have gone back and finished the job by invading Argentina and declaring it a vassal state. Alas, global politics and political corectness (aka political weakness) means that this is impossible.

But, given that aspects of the military exist (or have existed) to devise shrewd, cunning and covert plans for the domination of their enemies, can anyone come up with a "covert" way for us to invade and take over Argentina.

Have they written out the bit about "the rebelious Scots to crush" or whatever it was? Non-PC, but it could come back after the Scottish referendum.

Thanks Coff. More to come, I think.

Ant, I think your point is well made. But "covert"? This may be the time to start building a new Empire. If the Argentinean forces at are at such a low ebb, this may be the time go for it. Finish what they started. I know a couple of South American countries that would help.

Where did I put my pills?

inconvenient questions

keesje - is there any valid reason why you don't want to answer the 2 questions that I posed to you at 1400 today? I fully understand that it is easier to criticise other countries' policies (particularly when you adopt an ill-informed populist approach) than it is to be introspective - but you are overdue an explanation to me as to why your countrymen in the very recent past were prepared to deny the right of self-determination to a community of people and then criticise UK for defending that principal. Do you disagree with permitting said right to self-determination? To put it into context - we're talking a longer timescale that the existence of the disfunctional state of Belgium here!

Elsewhere I gave a little support to this Danish slice on a different topic. But now, I just want him to reflect on where he would be now without a UK (and others') resolve some while ago. Find some intellect keesje

Keesje,

So it seems you and the world at large doesn't understand. However, what you need to understand, is that we will continue to protect these lands and the people that live there come what may!

In other words; we don't care what you, or anyone else thinks!

We will go to war to protect them. Have no doubt about it anymore!

Why would we care what any other country thinks? Perhaps you may think that is arrogant. Yeah maybe, but still we don't give a damn!

We are very happy to protect the Islanders to self-determination!

Frankly I find some of the comments here sub-standard and childish.

I won't say uninformed, but lacking any objectivity all the more.

Many "don't ask" guys?

Wake up, it aint all black and white.

Margaret Thatcher's government secretly offered to hand over sovereignty of the Falklands islands two years before the invasion by Argentine forces in 1982.

The secret meeting was disclosed in the official history of the Falklands by Sir Lawrence Freedman. He revealed that the cabinet's defence committee approved a plan whereby Britain would hand Argentina titular sovereignty over the islands, which would then be leased back by Britain for 99 years.

The British and Argentinian flags would be flown side by side on public buildings on the islands. British administration would continue with a view to guaranteeing the islanders and their descendants "uninterrupted enjoyment of their way of life".

Keesje

Perhaps rather than giving away other countries territory, you might like to return the Netherlands to Spain and see how well that works first?
I think you would agree there would be some major issues.
Well, the concept of handing the Falklands over to Argentina has similar issues......after all the Falklands were never part of Argentine territory. However the Dutch states were very definitely part of Spain, and some would argue still should be: you could argue that Holland is a renegade province of Spain, and that it should be returned to rightful Spanish rule

longer ron, discrediting the source when you don't like the message was not entirely unexpected.

What would you consider foreign main stream news channels?

Actually, one did just that some threads/pages ago, no need for invasion in the slightest, just let basic human decency the chance to flourish...
