PN,

I assume that the system works in that order then?
You get your 'provisional streaming' based on aptitude etc (For Example RW). You can then request a specific route (ME), and if they accept your request but there are too many 'bums on seats' for ME, you will hold until some places become available?

Is that the gist of it?

Thanks.

Very useful flow chart in Powerpoint showing all flying training pipelines for pilot, WSO and NCA in the RN, RAF and AAC, including course lengths, platforms etc

No Benjbh, not in the way you read it.

You harbour a desire to go RW. Once you have reached a particular stage of training will they assess your aptitude for FJ, RW or ME. If every thing else is equal they may take your preference into account.

However whatever your aptitude if there are no empty seats then you would not be streamed that way. More likely, if there are empty seats on one of the other streams then that is the way they would stream you assuming that your aptitude was acceptable.

There was a time when some trainees attempted to fiddle the system so they could go to trucks as a short cut to a CPL/ATPL. It didn't always work. Not suggesting that is what you have in mind but just to show that there are no certainties.

Oh ok, thanks PN; I'd be happy with any aircrew job, be it at the pointy end of a Typhoon or in the back of a Chinook.

@ A_A; Thanks

Cheers, Ben

Can I join an english speaking air force if I've suffered from asthma?

I 16 , form the uk and looking for a career in the armed forces. Hovwver the RAF dont accept asthmatics even if they are in the clear. I'd imagine British army and Royal Navywould be the same answer(please tell me if it isn't). Are there any other english speaking air forces ie The Austrailian Air Force that would consider people who have suffered form asthma but no longer do?

Right, I'll jump in before the grammer taliban come and attack your spelling/grammar!
Have a good look through the 'OASC Wannabes' thread at the top of the Military Aircrew Forum, and do a search in that thread and see what results you get - it's all in there.
In the mean time, while the RAF reject the vast majority of people with a history of asthma, I believe the AAC and the RN look at everyone seperately on a case-by-case basis.

Cue Airborne_Artist to try and recruit you into the Navy.

Hope that helps,

Ben

You called

If you have at least five years of symptom-free history by the time you get to the RN's AIB then you should be OK. You'll get to AIB after the aptitude tests, so you'll know your chances, assuming you pass AIB.

Taliban Turn?

What Benjy meant was Ppruners here expect accurate and properly written English commensurate with your stated age and experience. If you read the wanabee's sticky at the top of the page you will read more.

As an aside, I wish people would start:

I am 16 from the UK and looking for a career in the Armed Forces.
I was told to look at this site by . . . . (say how you found the site)

Not getting at you Euro, just for others who look in on your post.

Having spent some time in an AFCO lately, I can offer the following advice. As long as you have been symptom free for 4 years or more AND have not been prescribed any medication for it, including repeat prescriptions, then the RAF will consider you. You would also have to complete a MSL and because you have a history of asthma, a supplement.
If in doubt pop into an AFCO and have a chat with them.

Guys thanks for all the advice,

What I was getting at is more, what kind of qualities do they look for in a Helo pilot, over a ME of FJ? Or is it all done on your flying abilities? And do you hold a bit more clout if u are an ex-ranker, or is everyone in the same pot?

Spam, the question you asked, if it could be answered exactly would suggest that it is possible to behave in a way that would ensure you got the choice you wanted.

It doesn't work. You might aim for, say ME, and just fail. They may then NOT give you a restream and that is that, you're out.

Just do your best, go with the flow and ultimately keep your mouth shut. OK to express a preference once but once you are in the 'wrong' stream you must concentrate on what is and not what might have been.

euroflight,

I suggest you do have a good look in the OASC thread. There is truly a mass of info there and then you might care to have a look at the Medical and Health forum too. The problem you have might not be as bad it appears. Use the search facility at the head of PPRuNe's first page.

I am afraid this situation has happened so many many times afore that you are being a tad bit baited.

But please take the advice.

I would have closed the thread quite soon anyway.

Cheers for that guys.

Don't worry P.N. I'm good at getting on with things, same thing happened with my NCA streaming, ended up on my 3rd choice out of 3, but cracked on with it and now really enjoying it.

Gonna have to wait a little bit with the whole application though, as have a few things coming up soon, including another nice trip to the sandpit but the app. will be going in as soon as possible!

Thanks again.

Don't let the sandpit get in the way of the App. You have only one loyalty - you.

We had one very good WRAF who we encouraged to go for a commission. She broke her arm and decided to wait until she was fully fit before applying. I (not a flt cdr) and her SNCO 'bullied' her into applying straight away. She did and was called forward in due course, accepted, passed first time, and last I saw of her was as a flt lt married to another flt lt.

The RAF needs good people and wants then to apply as soon as possible.

Hello. I have just had my UAS first intial talk/interview at NUAS (I made a previous post before in this thread about the UAS).

I think it went ok but I didn't feel I sold myself well enough. I find out if I made it to the next stage in acouple of weeks.

And you don't get to choose what you fly.
After you pass, they decide if you are Fast Jet, Helicopter or Multi
