Morris Minor, I see you have double posted. I suggest you go back to the original and select first post. Then Edit and Delete otherwise it will just become the Friday joke.

Others who have done the AFCO bit recently will be here soon I imagine.

Good luck.

Going P3!

Hi there,
I am sitting my officer selection interview midway through next month and i'm currently knuckling down to some solid revision on all aspects of the RAF from its history to its involvment in NATO. I was just wondering if anybody could offer me any advise on anything really that could get me brownie points. A list of all needed to be revised would be hugely appreciated, and also any tips for the interview would be welcome.

Cheers.

Yes thank you, i have read this thread, it contains some useful info but not all that im looking for. Surely there must be a serving RAF officer or better still an officer cadet on this forum that could help???

Has it occurred to you to post on the above thread? It's what everyone else does.

Gin,

Sorry. I'm just a thicko and unable to assist.

AlJH,

The problem with your suggested course of action is that I imagine anyone who the (reasonable) question is aimed at, hardly EVER looks in there. So anyone looking for advice is pissing in the wind. So why have the thread at all?

Also "search" is your best friend; http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...ed#post3872269 is a start. That said, the strange Pprune search parameters won't let you search "P3".

Proposing a P3 option may damage your credibility so you may want to avoid it. The ASR called for 4 turbojets: ENDEX.

Al R,

Not quite sure if that response was sarcastic or not...

Gin, learn when NATO was formed ('49), why it was formed (Warsaw Pact etc.), and its most recent members. The rest I'm afraid you will have to use some initiative to find out. Wiki is a good place to start.

Anyway, the chances are that the people who know the most about that subject are the people who know most about that subject are the people who have recently gone through the ordeal of the filter interview. You will also find people like PN, who, I think you will find, know a fair bit about the RAF, its history etc. Also a_a, who, although not RAF, probably knows a fair bit about NATO. You can bet your bottom dollar that within 12 or so hours this thread will (rightly) be merged into the OASC thread.

By the way, I've meant to question this for a while: could we change the name of the wannabes thread to something that incorporates the FAA and AAC? Or seperate threads? This is, after all, a military aircrew forum. Not an RAF aircrew forum...

Just a thought.

You referring to me? Didn't know I knew much about NATO, but if you say so, it must be true. Too right, not RAF, but the RAF paid for my flyschol, housed and provided most of the staff of RN EFTS, and then taught me to jump out of their Fat Alberts, so I might just have the teensiest bit of knowledge

AlJH,

Nope!

Sometimes, humour comes across badly on the web and the military way of saying things can sometimes come across as twattish and boorish. I can't imagine a more deflating thing for a youngster who has spent years looking up to people he wants to emulate, to pluck up the courage to ask them a question and then being shot down in flames. Perhaps there should be a library of people willing to act as e-mentors, willing to take the time to assist with their knowledge of a specialist field and having them prepared to help instead of a teenager getting shown what for by a bunch of aged keyboard commandos?

a_a:

Was trying to put across the point that there are people that know stuff that look at the wannabes thread. Not exclusively NATO knowledge, just knowledge in general, if you catch my drift.

Hints and Tips for oasc

Hi guys im currently in the airforce and have been for about 2 years now as a 1st line amm.
Im currently applying for my commission to go in to the pilot branch,
I have tried before when I was a civy but I didn't get through the filter interview because I didn't know much about the raf. Now I am trying again and was wandering if any one could help me, let me know what I will be going through from day one so I know what to expect and more importantly what is expected of me.
Also is it true that you have to be in pilot training before age 23??
I know it is for civilians but is it the same when your already in service??

Thanx

Welcome, congratulations on gettin your first post in the right place. Now can I fire the first shot (6 minutes). You will get a lot of flak for poor grammar - capitalisation, spelling etc. Basically what we'll criticise as lack of attention to detail.

Really you should read the whole thread as there are so many snippets in there that we will missing if we try to reppeat them again.

No, not true. You have an extra couple of years once you are serving. You will find the age in the thread.

PS or ring OASC.

Just a thought.

While our sister Services have their own selection processes, their aircrew candidates do come through OASC (or did last time I was at Sleaford Tech)...

Hay Fever Question?

Just a thought.

How many little johnies out there pulled the hay fever card to avoid school sports?

Only later does the card come back to haunt them?

Summer sniffles are indeed common but real aircrew go to Boots and not the Doc.

PS, and I am reminded that Lincolnshire, as an agricultural county has much more pollen in the summer than many places.

Look let's face facts here, people only join the FAA and god forbid the AAC when the RAF turn them down as not really being suitable for being able to handle so much technology. That is why OASC do the FAA and AAC a favour by running separate, easier tests for those who can only join the secondary flying forces.

Good thought though.
Not going to rise to that, blatant wah.

*grits teeth and clenches fists*
