aw ditor. Perhaps these platitudes give a clue. My comments regarding property speculation and asset stripping were "moderated" out.

Is this thread now radio silent?

I don't know why this thread has gone quiet for the last few days, but it did cause me to go back to the start of the thread which I had not previously visited. I was surprised at how much disdain there was for MRA4 a year ago compared with how much it is missed now.

What is the real confidence level for MRA4?

By the way, I also have fond memories of the lovely Samantha!

There is nothing to be confident about....

MRA4, regardless of how excellent it would have been, will never fly again.

why this thread has gone quiet
What else is there to say? Inevitably, people have realized that no amount of criticism of the decision - constructive or otherwise - will make any difference.

real confidence level for MRA4?
Zero, unless you're a museum owner...

Why? Most of the reductions are taking place over the next few months and even years and some could, at least in theory, still be modified if the threat to UK interests alters.

Although changes to the Review are unlikely, it's only sensible to flag up potential issues allowing the MOD to tell the politicians that they were warned in advance!

Duncs,

Best news I've heard in ages, especially as I need a new pair of cheap Levi jeans.

Now if only it were true.

Nice to see other guys coming over to do our job, or should i say trying to do our job. Nothing like giving us a kick in the teeth when we are down and rubbing our noses in it.

It could be an opportunity to open the VPI bar, though.

Over a month has passed now and it still feels like a nightmare....one we'll never wake from. On the other hand, some moustaches are providing much needed humour at ISK!

Uk forces are already regarded as 'The Borrowers' by our US cousins and today, I swear, a french visitor took great pleasure in calling us, and I quote

'Beef eating surrender monkeys'

I must admit to a bit of seapage and freely admitted that they have a point.

Is our forward looking and strategically aware government even aware of what is being alluded to here on this thread?

I don't believe for an instant that Call Me Dave intended to weaken us so much and on so many levels with theses cuts, as a nation, as he did. I genuinely believe he just hasn't the knowledge base and has not received the appropriate advice to enable him to objectively and intelligently make the long term decisions for the UK which he did last month. How does one forward a link to this thread to the PM? And would it help?

Lord save us from the vanity and absolute ineptitude of all politicians.

There is of course an alternative view..

in that by being prepared to make the economic hard decisions now the Gov't are actually protecting the UK's longer term position in a global sense (which is more than just defence and security) - wait til the same crunch affects FR etc and they have to make even harder decisions in the future.

Yes, losing military capability is a bu**er, but be honest, the loss of Nimrod does not suddenly plunge UK to a 3rd world nation, failure to pay our way in the world and bankrupt the nation might.....
