Sorry I'm not there tonight to share the sadness after recently left to ASC. Condolences to all; families, friends, sqn members and those left behind to pick up the pieces. Best wishes to all who knew them.

Man gets tired
Spirit don't
Man surrenders
Spirit won't
Man crawls
Spirit flies
Spirit lives when man dies

Man seems
Spirit is
Man dreams
The spirit lives
Man is tethered
Spirit is free
What spirit is man can be.

(Waterboys, Spirit)

RIP

Today is my last day in the RAF (Air Traffic) after 35 years service. I was hoping to go out on a high - not so.
RIP

Flight is freedom in it's purest form,
to dance with the clouds which follow a storm;
to roll and glide, to wheel and spin;
To feel the joy that swells within;
To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
And know the warmth of a clear spring sky;
Then back to earth at the end of the day,
released from the tensions which melted away.
Should my end come while I am in flight,
Whether brightest day or darkest night;
Spare me your pity and shrug off the pain,
Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again;
For each of us is created to die,
And within me I know,
I was born to fly.

My thoughts and condolences to all family, friends and Sqn colleagues.

God Rest Your Souls, My Friends

I've typed this and deleted it too many times to count, there's nothing right to say.

Lives are not sacrificed, they're taken. Please add my heartfelt condolences to family, friend and Sqn members of those lost.

The MoD says:

"An RAF C-130 Hercules crashed at around 1725 local time on 30 January some 30 kilometres north-west of Baghdad. The cause of the crash, and the extent of casualties among personnel on board are not yet known. Further details will be promulgated as soon as possible.
Updated_30 January at 2105."

Reuters now say 15 UK casualties and an unspecified number of US dead, too.

I see Mr B liar commiserated with these brave members of the Army...... makes you almost wonder if it was a pre-prepared speech and he couldn't even be arsed to change the words to fit the occasion... sorry to be so angry.... but...

Yes, Lafyar I saw and heard that too. Makes one so proud to be. or have been, a representative of Her Majesty's Government...

Anyway, to all involved and affected I extend my absolutely heartfelt sympathy. You were my family for so long, I am well aware how hard it will have hit you. What else can I say? You're in my thoughts, now and ever.

As one of the herc menders I found todays news very saddening, as I'm sure did all of us involved with the fleet. It has been said many times before, but I feel I have to say it again, my thoughts are with the families of all involed with this tragedy, as I am sure are the thoughts of the rest of us in the armed forces word wide.

I have just one question though, WHY Bush & Bliar WHY????????

As a former Ascoteer (ableit only for a short time), I was devastated to hear this news.

My thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those involved, and with the whole of the Truckie world.

Godspeed those onboard, making the ultimate sacrifice in the name of duty. May you all find peace and your families find comfort at this time of loss.

I've been here before and it doesn't get any easier. Not looking forward to going to work in the morning.

Can't help reading between the lines of the limited (thankfully) news coverage and speculating in my head.

Godspeed to all, and hoping some made it.
