This may sound harsh, but once the basic fact is announced then I wish a news blackout would be voluntarily imposed. a lot of people are in that area and having friends their myself I am wondering about their safety. Far better to keep quiet and give the facts once known, than cause endless upset for a lot of people.
There will, inevitably, be speculation. There is, regrettably, a public appetite for a degree of immediacy and detail which encourages such speculation. It's therefore better that any speculation there is should be informed.
Moreover, as soon as it's known whether this was a J or a K one half of the Lyneham families will be able to breathe again - however sadly.
Though I'm a journo, I'm not speculating, just making a comment.

Confirmed on the MOD OP Telic news page:
At the bottom of that page:
Little Bee, if you've not done so already, you might want to speak to your bloke's family, and, if they're worried too, you might want to suggest they call the relatives helpline and ask them to tell you if they learn anything.
Here's hoping and praying for minimal casualties.

As this seems to have caused some concern then I removed it. Simply publishing my thoughts on a personal note.
I am personally involved with this incident so please don't lecture me on ethics.
If you iunderstood the reference then you will know why.
Thanks.

Holding Breath
As an ex-Herc guy, I would just like to add my thoughts to those of others above (and, no doubt, yet to post) for the crew and passengers of the crashed RAF C130 - and, of course, the many families still anxiously waiting for news.
Albert - for all that he is big, fat, and ugly - has a uniquely close extended family. That family will pull together now: I have seen it before.
Praying for good news

Well, good old George W Bush is at it again...
Just is the MoD and the poor chap or chappess who pulled Orderly Officer at Lyneham tonight are trying to minimise rumours, POTUS goes out on airlive across the world and tells us that Brits and US personnel have died today during his election speech. I'm guessing he has got his info from the US SAR team via the Pentagon. I do hope he is wrong.
My thoughts go out to all relatives and friends of anybody involved.
