...and the backroom boys and girls without whom nothing would leave the ground.
But since the raison d'etre of Movers seems to be ensuring that nothing DOES leave the ground, they are, by definition, excluded?

16 blades,

"Thought your post had passed unnoticed did you ? Not so. Just wondered if you have a particular axe to grind regarding Movers or are you just another front end bunny who craves attention "

Remember that do you. It's taken you since circa 5th November to respond with something not very original.

Fortunately Maple 01 has saved me the tedious task of cutting and pasting the forum criteria.

I will however cut and paste this as a reminder as to what this thread is all about

Movers & Loadies
Gentlemen,
In deference to Muppet Leader whose "Loadies for the RSAF" has turned into a battleground I am starting this new topic so that all combatants can partake in a bit of sparring."

Now do you see why Muppets are posting on this thread ? Yes,it's a thread for Movers and Loadies so if you want to butt in then come up with something constructive. Also, makes this statement of yours look a bit silly:

"this site is designed for AIRCREW and this thread specifically for MILITARY AIRCREW, WTF are movers doing posting here anyway?"
This THREAD even you will now realise is for Movers and Loadies

Oh, and another gentle reminder:

"What part of 'NOT ALL MOVERS WANT TO BECOME LOADMASTERS' do you not understand?"

ABIW,

I don't think the above counts as a bite as I simply had to explain to a child what was going on around him/her.

Regards to all on the friendly thread.

E5.

"NOT MANY MOVERS ARE CAPABLE OF BECOMING LOADMASTERS"

Why would we want to be?

All those nasty take offs’, with ramp locks to check, Para door windows to look through, to make sure the engines haven’t fallen off, tea to make, lumpy boxes to hand out. The list is endless. Gosh I don’t know how you do it.

No. Just take me to Nellis for six weeks for Red Flag and leave me there.
Or give me a condo on Coco Beach for seven weeks and leave me there as well.
You could leave me alone in Calgary for two months, during Med man if you wanted.
Maybe four weeks at Hickam Field, lying on Waikiki Beach every day, would have to do.

We don’t all want to go charging through the clouds every day.

Just take me somewhere nice and leave me alone for a while.

Remember getting back to the airfield, somewhere hot, once. Very early in the morning. Minus one of our team.

Got on the crew bus. Everyone bleary eyed.
And I do mean everyone.

Crew bus pulls up outside our airframe.

Lo and behold, there is out missing team member, fast asleep against the nose wheel!
It transpired that after the party the previous night, he was so worried about not waking up; he had got a taxi to the airfield, and collapsed where we found him.

As we were all boarding the aircraft, I remember these immortal words.

“OK Drives. Take me to the next Pi55 up”.

teeters,

You are absolutely correct old boy, a dreadful piece of punctuation. But then, I only cut and pasted (hee hee).

I can now imagine the cries of horror from the opposition amidst mutterings of "feckin Muppets always blame someone else ".

I shall now retire and maintain a lonely vigil whilst awaiting the next barrage of incoming.

Regards to all.

ML,

You've let the cat out of the bag you silly beggar.

ABIW,

No bull**** old son as that's what Mobile Muppetry is all about - prepositioning so that you aircrew bods can get in and out with minimum hassle. I say minimum hassle cos as soon as you get sent on your way the sooner the lads get on with their various nefarious activities.
I cannot match ML's various detachments but two weeks in the Nassau Beach Hotel is my outstanding memory. I always seemed to cop Bodo or Calgary in the winter for my sins.

Regards to all on the friendly thread.

Real world it certainly was.

You forget old son, we are not restricted to one aircraft type, as you are on Albert.
Not only the ‘130 fleet, but a lot of the long haul was done on the VC10 and L1011.

Red Flag was busy for the first week. Maybe three aircraft a day with all the GPUs, ground support equipment, engine change kits and so forth.
Thereafter, just the one re-supply flight a week, with a bit of hydraulic fluid and some new white gloves for Nigel.
Real bummer staying in Old Vegas, as it was a 15-minute walk to get to the strip, for the nightlife.
Still, we managed to sweet talk the girl from the hire car company, to change our mini van for three soft tops, to cruise up and down the West Coast for a week until the next re-supply flight.
Hotac was the Best Western, so we even managed to swap hotels a few times up and down the coast, so we could take in all the sights.

Condominiums on Coco Beach were great.
Warm water trials of RN torpedoes.
1 flight a week from Kennedy Space Centre to Andros, unload the fish, and back again to Kennedy. Into the bus and back to the condo for tea and cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off.
Wait for the Navy to fire and recover the torpedo, and fly it back out again the following week.
I could never quite get the hang of those damn wind surfers.

Calgary is great at any time of year.
When in any bar, you just had to drop the “Delta Bow Valley” into the conversation, and you were in, so to speak.
Saw the Calgary Stampede five times over the years. Along with horse riding and camping round Lake Louise up at Banff.
The Chinook shopping mall was pretty impressive as well.

I believe the Hickam job was at the end of a nine-week stint flogging round the Far East and the Pacific, on a Ghurkha Rotation. I got to places that I had never even heard of.
The only down side to these trips was the 2 hour stop at Calcutta each trip into and out from Kathmandu. I think the Indians just wanted the landing fees, for us flying over their airspace.
Had dinner a couple of times with Chris Bonnington at the Hotel Annapurna.
We ended up being dropped off at Hickam to wait for another airframe going east to pick us up, but for one reason or another, it got delayed. The decision was taken at Group to keep us in situ “just in case”.
We eventually got back, were on the ground for just under 2 hours and then flew out to Gibraltar with a load of arrester gear for the F4s, as good old Uncle Sam had just bombed Tripoli.

Oh I forgot to mention all the trips to Nairobi.
Oh the food at the Carnivore Restaurant.

Must go and eat something now. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

'J' Bloke,

That was a bloody good post from ML despite what you think of Muppets. It's a pity a few more people don't emulate him then we could all enjoy some good reading.
Actually I was going to suggest that it might be interesting to hear a few stories about peoples most interesting trips.Looks like ML has kicked it off. Let's have some more.

ML,

Is the Sombrero club still open in Nairobi ?

Regards to all.

Nairobi is not what it used to be..............security is so bad folks have been living in absolute squalor with our "cammed up" brethren so the usual "Night Fighter" haunts are no longer visited

It's rather sad that ML continues to post under the false impression that none of us aviating bods have ever experianced the wonders he thinks he has exclusivity on

I have only been fixed wing for 7 years but have enjoyed a 5 day stay in the Outrigger reef on Waikiki, lowered the flag in Carnivores on more than one occasion, spent more than a few nights in the Embassy Suites in Vegas..........blah blah blah....it's old hat mate

Now imagine how those who have been on Albert for years must be grinning knowingly..............

Muppet Leader;

Been to the desert recently then, or is that not in your guide book. I think that you should do a ground tour in a CIO (or whatever they're called these days)...you would boost recruitment no end...and in to the trade you love too.

E5;

I don't hate Movers...I even like some of them...we've had a hoot in some of the aforementioned watering holes...even got a pic of a lady in 'Coyote Ugly' in NYNY dancing on the bar. I just think that ML needs his 'rose tinteds' checked out as we've all been there, done that, now use the T shirt for polishing the car!!!

ABIW

You been on FW that long?? Time flies!!

Found the Outrigger to be a bit down market, meself. Far preferred the Royal Hawaiian or the Hilton Hawiian Village.

Moose McGillicuddy's http://www.moosemcgillycuddyswaikiki.com/ , the Lollipop on Great White wet T-shirt nights.....happy times!

Good luck to anyone in the mob (movers, loadies, drivers airframe - even REMFs) who manages such things these days in between sessions supporting Trust-me-Tone's come-as-you-are wars.

Of course, the tent city at Al Udeid was very nice, definitely better than the tent city at PSAB (although the CC was a huge improvement). Seeb was distinctly average and as for Thumrait.....

Mind you, White Sands hotel in Mombasa wasn't bad......

Sorry guys but I just couln't resist posting this one.

" A man boards an aeroplane and takes his seat. As he settles in, he glances up and sees a most beautiful woman boarding the plane. He soon realizes she is heading straight towards his seat. A wave of anticipation washes over him. Lo and behold, she takes the seat right beside his.

Eager to strike up conversation, he blurts out, "Business trip or vacation?" "Nymphomaniac Convention in Milan," she states. "Whoa!!!!!" He swallows hard and is instantly crazed with excitement. Here's the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen, sitting RIGHT next to him and she's going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs!!

Struggling to maintain his outward cool, he calmly asks, "What's your business role at this convention?" "Lecturer," she says. "I use my experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality." "Really?" He says, swallowing hard, "What myths are those?"

"Well," she explains "one popular myth is that Black men are the most well-endowed when in fact it is the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait." "Another popular myth is that French men are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Greek descent". Suddenly the woman becomes very embarrassed and blushes. "I'm sorry" she says, "I shouldn't be discussing this with you, I don't even know your name!" "Tonto," the man says, as he extends his hand. "Tonto Papadopoulous".

Well it does have a slight aviation theme.

Regards to all.

Very true about Nairobi slipping back into the jungle. Just over 2 months ago a MAMS FSgt was attcked on his way back from a meal. He was hit over the head with an iron bar and stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver. He's now back in UK and although he lost his sight in that eye the RAF are going to keep him on.

I'm still trying to find out why the other b@st@rd$ on the team left him to walk back on his own...

ABIW/Blakey,

Never been one for the States, the Spams are better seen on TV.At least you can switch it off when you've had enough.
Now Kenya, and Nairobi in particular was THE place of my youth.
We used to spend many a happy hour or so sat under the Thorn Tree outside the New Stanley watching all the gorgeous totty.
The favourite hotels for the Muppets in those days were the Fairview,Panafric,Norfolk (until some cretin torched it) and the Safari Park out on the Thikka (not Tikka) Road where the El Al crews used to have a week layover. Great fun.
Nairobi was always a bit dodgy at night and we had to beat a couple of hasty retreats as we soon found out that you couldn't reason with some guy straight out of the bush and wielding a machete.
As Blakey said the place has gone right back to the jungle, particularly since Jomo went on his way.
'Fraid Africa was a better place when the globe was painted pink -or was it purple ?

Regards to all
