Advanced Compass Test Emirates CAE: Insights

• Skip the Saville assessment in the Emirates package – you won’t need it.
  
• Math questions – focus on the Medium and Hard sets from LPJ. There are about 24 questions in 20 minutes, so practice being quick. The circulating practice questions are very similar to the real test. ( you can skip the 100-question practice section from LPJ not very useful especially those money conversion ones )
  
• Short-term memory – same as LPJ. Usually 2 numbers to remember, sometimes 3.
  
• Spatial awareness – layout is a bit different from LPJ, but the concept is the same. All instruments are static, so watch out: some won’t have numbers.
  
• Multi-tasking – concept is slightly different from LPJ. Red alert boxes are smaller, and there’s no separate timer for each autopilot input. You’ll have 3 sets of test - 2 minutes each. Enter the autopilot info, press enter, then the next input appears. Values change slowly (altitude 500–1000 ft, speed/heading just above 100+ and increasing slightly.
  
• Advanced flight control – this is the easiest section, no need to practice. You have rudder pedals and yoke, and can feel each instrument before the assessment. 3 sets of 2 minutes each. Speed is controlled using the up and down keyboard keys.
  
• ATPL questions – around 60–70% similar to LPJ; the rest are same like the circulating sample papers.
  
• Psychometric test – don’t practice for it. It’s 225 questions in one hour, straightforward, designed to capture your natural responses. Just answer honestly.
  

Note: Read instructions carefully. Most sections have a test run before the real assessment (except spatial awareness and ATPL). Overall, it’s very manageable if you practice well!

Started off with the usual online aptitude tests (same ones from PASS pilotassessments.com), so nothing unexpected there.

Got invited for the HireVue video interview – 5 questions, all pretty standard stuff like:

• Why do you want to be a pilot?
• Why FlyDubai?
• What can you bring to the team?

Next was an HR interview via Teams. It’s more about attitude, motivation, and potential than flying experience. Expect around 8–10 questions in total, about yourself, why aviation, and what you know about FlyDubai. Questions are similar to what’s on PASS, so also here no real surprises.

Simulator (CAE Dubai, B737NG Level D)
This part checks your basic flying skills, CRM, and decision-making.
You’ll get a full briefing before the sim, and you’ll fly in pairs (so some waiting time).

My scenario was roughly:

• Takeoff from OOMS RWY 08L
• Radial intercept from MCT VOR
• Climb/Descent: 250 KIAS @ 1000 ft/min
• Steep turns 45° AOB
• ILS approach, then missed approach with engine failure and return to land

yes the Emirates subscription is the one to practice from which almost the same as the actual assessment.

I was reading that only GCAA ATPL Theory is only valid from Fujairah earlier on this thread, is this the case or if i have done my ATPL with any other flight schools in the region issuing GCAA license i would still be able to qualify?

I’ve also completed all my GCAA exams and I’m currently waiting for a type rating partner as well
