Within 2 years I would bet that traffic will be up to pre pandemic levels and staff will be recruited on lower salaries and conditions. In fairness EK are not alone. I have to hold back on LinkedIn to giving my real opinion on this lack of morality but LinkedIn is supposed to be used professionally not as alternative to social media. Anyway, good luck to all.

Some low comments here about how work mates who have lost their jobs are not bitching about EK on linkedin Good on them I say. Far more integrity than those who have already left EK, or worse still, those that are still at EK who want these people to do their dirty work for them.
It's time to grow up. These now redundant workmates are trying to move on with their lives as best they can. These kind of inane comments are not helping them. |
With all due respect. They were literally shown the door. Guess Stockholm syndrome is real.
Do not get me wrong. I feel for each and everyone who has lost their job. I get all the circumstances that people now find themselves in. It is horrid. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone. There is a life beyond EK and DXB. I wish them all the best. God knows we need it all. |

You couldn’t be more wrong, Don. Nobody is ‘bitching’ about former colleagues losing jobs, au contraire. Like Joker I have the greatest of sympathy for them, including good friends. The sycophancy on Linkedin mainly comes from outsiders and non crew. When I was @ EK I always thought that the juxtaposition between the externally perceived glamour versus the reality was extraordinary. However, even I could not have foreseen the depths which EK have sunk to in terms of dealing with redundancies. I also wish redundant crews the best of luck but there is no ‘denying the denial’ on LinkedIn where, like Voltaire’s Candide, ‘all is well in the best of worlds’. (Pseuds corner entry).

I believe there are companies that use linkedin to find or review new employees.
If you are looking for a new employee would you hire a person who is bitching and moaning about the previous company on an employment oriented service ? Putting a positive spin even if it's for you own PR purposes is not a bad idea if you want to find a new position. |
Yes EK handled this horribly, without a doubt! But don't blame those effected for trying to make the best of it . Some ,unfortunately , know that it's over for them given the circumstances and may vent . That's ok as well as its part of the process.

Don’t you guys actually read the posts? No one is saying anything detrimental or unsupportive to the guys / gals who have lost their jobs. No one is criticising in particular pilots whether they post sad farewells to colleagues on LinkedIn. The nauseating bit tends to be from EK itself. Today for example, ‘oh look, isn’t it great the A380 blunderbus has landed in LHR after 3 months ‘ followed by a tsunami of comments from nearly all outsiders about how great EK is etc. The absence of commentary from displaced flight crew is the elephant in the bath tub. To be honest, my fingers have been hovering over the keyboards to heap a torrent of expletive deleteds onto the page. Only common sense and an absence of drinking stopped me. I will do my best in my own very limited field of influence to help any redundant pilot if I can. I am sure all on pprune wish nothing but the best for redundant crew. The inherent danger of pprune like any social media if that is what this is leads to misinterpretation normally adversely of course. I think when it comes to EK behaviour we are all on the same side here.

Anybody knows what happened down the road on Wednesday ?
|
Inevitably the unthinkable at the unmentionable...
|
All over sixties shown the door.
|
Rumours of some in their 40s/50s too ?
|
the airline in the neighborhood
last year around 2200 pilots along the year they reduced to 1800 by showing sick and low attendance the door this week another 400 including all 60plus and rest of the student pilots. A few of them below 60 to reach the number who have been Selected random |
The unmentionable did the unmentionable. Those approaching 60 or over who will struggle to find another flying role. Expat second officers or junior FO’s who have yet to convert their MPL’s to usable licences, pay back their bonds, or accrue much of an EOSB, an alarming amount of female captains, 90% of the FI’s that came across from the academy to mainline, and then a smattering or entirely random individuals who sit in the upper parts of the seniority list, approaching upgrade in rank or fleet transfer before their local compatriots. All with good clean records. And then of course radio silence from anyone above VP Flight Opps level except to say that unpaid leave is on the way too. But it’s the weekend so we’ll let you stew on that whilst we all position off to LPA on a 78 for 2 days doing god knows what.
As for yourselves, redundancies were inevitable I suppose but the method of handling it was appalling. Dear <insert name> was how the mails were sent. Nice. |

They seem to have come out ok in 2019- 2020. . They will need that going into 2020-2021 where the report is expected to be quite different. There may be new pictures needed without the smiles. |
As I mentioned before
they have 20.2bnAEd and it’s not worth to spend 1 to protect the jobs |
Well you’d think they’d at least call it a furlough with rehire/recall rights for those without issues.
|
What the actual F..k?
What "Issues" are you referring to? Any one you was employed in EK before Jun 13 was employed in EK. Period. |
