With your second quote you basically outlined the usual modern-economic dealings after a depression or crash, nothing new or specifically EK/ME here. As long as there are no furlough provisions in contracts, the above applies to most businesses and regions on Earth. Just look at the despicable, social contribution avoiding scam of MOL. In contrast there are the good old inhibiting unions, very comfy for employees, but sometimes a perversion in terms of progress. Look at the sustaining of the utterly filthy coal industry in "oh so modern" Germany, only done out of political fear of losing 400'000 jobs and the ire of the mighty unions, not so comfy for our environment.

If furloughed you would not trash the company that might re-hire you, so i don't condemn anyone who keeps up the hope of getting re-hired by EK for not trashing them.

How confident are people of meaningful passenger flights resuming anytime soon? The continual refreshing of Emirates planned flight schedules is getting laughable and sad at the same time. This is especially for the 380 but even now the 777 is looking just as meaningless in light of recent developments. Namely, recent confirmed Covid passengers flights into HKG and Perth, flight restrictions in Australia and New Zealand, the huge spike in Covid cases in USA, Brazil, India, etc etc. I just can’t see any market for real passenger numbers developing within the next 3 months or more.

How long, and how many 777 drivers can survive flying freight and repatriation flights?

I'm not very confident at all. I can't see us operating any meaningful schedule to Australia or India in the next 6-8 months - and the same to the US and South America. This means that most of our connecting passengers will not be there to fly and with limited connecting passengers it will be almost only turists and residents flying to/from Dubai. We will still be flying lots of cargo and I think most of our passenger flights will be where the demand for cargo is still intact and it'll cost relatively little to offer those flights for passengers as well.

Basically, countries are either badly affected by the virus and isolated by other countries (Brazil), or relatively unaffected and isolating themselves from other countries (New Zealand). Qantas have removed international flights until March next year and are allowing the essential minimum services to be operated by foreign airlines.

Dubai tourism is mostly pax doing a 1-3 day stopover enroute rather than visiting the place specifically, and once is usually enough. France, Thailand, USA etc will draw repeat visitors but one bus tour and desert safari ticks the box for DXB for westerners. The nationals of countries that do go there for pleasure/business such as India or Iran are heavily affected by virus restrictions.

The flights operating at the moment are basically freight runs with a few urgent/must travel pax in the cabin.

India's most western state, the UK provides many repeat tourists. Most don't leave the resorts they booked into. Will they travel this year? Only time will tell.

But I don't think we will see full aeroplanes in the near to mid future.

It'll have to be the western state as India's most eastern state (Victoria) is mostly on lockdown thanks to Comrade Dan:D

The LinkedIn love in for EK is nauseating. It is tragic that so many are arbitrarily losing their jobs but EK is using the pandemic opportunistically. Within 2 years I would bet that traffic will be up to pre pandemic levels and staff will be recruited on lower salaries and conditions. In fairness EK are not alone. I have to hold back on LinkedIn to giving my real opinion on this lack of morality but LinkedIn is supposed to be used professionally not as alternative to social media. Anyway, good luck to all.
