Lots of guys get roommates ... lots go alone . Options on that front .

I think that we all should hear the other side of the bell before judging the company or a single person...We all know, that everywhere in the world, not just at EK, attitude worth at least 60% of the interview to be successful. They know that a kid, now days, can fly a full motion simulator, they know that anyone can be trained on a new machine, but also they know that they can't train or change people's attitude. I am not saying that you had a bad attitude, but maybe an attitude that does not meet their standards. Everyone has their own standards. So do not be a buthurt, i am sure you will have more and better opportunities out there. Think positive and look forward

By some miracle, this schedule actually allows 9 days off.

Everyone here is emphasizing that EK rosters offer only 9 guaranteed days off.... Why those pilots that claim to be employed at EK, do not speak about their former companies? i think that you all applied for EK, when you had already a job...no one was pointing a gun on your heads while signing for EK. and not least, i think that everyone that does not want to work there anymore can leave at anytime....
this thread is filled by butthurt people and some fake pilots....FYI forums are made to share information, and not trying to influence people or to put a company under a really bad light, just because they did not get hired or do not like their working conditions anymore... if somebody is getting influenced by all of you, in my opinion should not be a pilot.

Hahahahah 42 leave, really? The only thing I got was the 30 days leave they had to give. And this year i got only forced leave, 2 x15days. Nothing together with the family, so imagine what that does to your family life..... and yes, my wife is on her way out, thanks EK.
Oh and no, I am not the only one in this situation, believe me.
These sad people in upper management dont give a rats- youknowwhat about their pilots, and that is what will finish the company.

42 days leave???:ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh: Thats fooking funny. When I left they payed me out the 56 days I had in my leave bank, I never ever had 42 days of leave a year for the entire 8 years I was there.

You do realise that most normal countries have mandated paid leave (for all workers) well in excess of the wonderful 10 days offered (if you are lucky) in the good ol' US of A.

The world is full of pilots who use confirmation bias to twist perceptions, facts and posts from this site to suit their own means. If the truth doesn't match then those facts will be disregarded. I think the majority of EK pilots did that before joining and I'll admit that I certainly did.

EK is a minimum 10 year commitment. 5 of that is the initial bond, 2 more years gets you 100% of the pension and another 2 years from there for the command upgrade, and finally a year on type for the command time. New joiners must be prepared to stick it out that long and that is getting to be more and more difficult given the corporate climate these days.

There was a post from another thread where there was some discussion whether pilots felt trapped here or not. I would put forward that in the most technical sense, no one is actually trapped here. There are no chains or shackles and it not as if the government will not allow you to exit the country unless of course you have become a guest of the department of corrections. But the company holds the ultimate control over your professional and by extension your personal life as well. For most pilots they will tell you where to live, when and where you'll fly and when you will be given leave. If you can no longer serve those needs then you will be shown the exit, in cases where the issues are medically related they will attempt to get you back on line but again their involvement in your medical file is more "liberal" than in western countries. That aside, most pilots have kids in school, wives that work and a general personal home life that has been seriously eroded by the demands (there are better words) of the company and they have little regard for needs other than their own. The perception is that there is little else to go to out there so the incarceration becomes self imposed. Lets face it, its easier to stay and hope things get better...but they don't and history proves that extensively.

It boils to to simple basics, you either live THEIR life or you live YOUR life combined with all the other adages of "which bucket fills first will provide the exit door" and "If you don't like it then leave". For me life isn't all about the money, I will never achieve this sort of income in my home country. I do however way to re-aquaint myself with the reasons I started flying, IE the love of it and more than the "push a button and fly" mentality of this SOP. It constantly amazes me how lonely a A380 with 600 people and 30 crew can be. They company have really succeeded in isolating their staff.

In my case, I have a little over 4 months to go and what a weight lifted. So Harry, there is only 4199 pilots who fit your description!

Yeah, one piece of advice: DON'T GO THERE! I was there a grand total of 11 months and I can tell you that every negative thing you read in this forum is true.

Um, someone asked for a roster on the 380, so I gave them one.

Forums are for whatever people want them to be for. There is not set rule about someone can or can't talk about on a forum. If I think that ABC airline needs to be bashed, because it sucks, and someone is interested in going there, I might give it a bashing.

I came here from a regional owned by DL 7yrs ago when DL started driving it into the ground. It was a wise choice as that company doesn't exist anymore. I also chose to come here as I wanted to see the world, and not a single U.S. airline would allow me to do that.
It does not matter where people are, people will b!tch about certain things.

Oh, and paradise does exist, and I believe it involves a float plane in the South Pacific.

Of the guys that have left would anyone mind sharing as many of their recent rosters as they can? I understand that things are pretty crap there right now but the main thing that conerns me is the actual roster. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Its been said many times before, its not a wise thing to do. What I can say that as an example you can expect 9 days off on the 380 fleet and work 92 hours. Some months you can get 13 days off and still work 90 hours.

Generally you'll work 90-100 hours per month.

PS...Don't forget the 5 year bond meaning that you have no choice but to like the hours.

Anyone know what the rules are with leaving Dubai on your days off? I have a vague recollection of reading something about being in Dubai min 72 hours before your duty, can't find it again though....is that true? If so is it actually implemented?
If it is true does that apply to annual leave as well...would seem odd if you take a weeks annual leave but can only go away for 4 of the 7 days.

Incorrect, 12 hours before a duty, but longer before a duty requiring you to be acclimated. (2 local nights, in time zone 2hrs or less difference from Dubai, ie, good for mainland Europeans in summer time!)

They therefore do not roster a duty requiring acclimation immediately after leave.

They can however roster that type of duty after a string of days off, which has caught out the unwary before.
