If Capts X, Y and Z haven't updated the guide then it is the same 1st Edition I used over 5 years ago and is woefully out of date- it wasn't exactly current then! Before you buy I would check when it was last updated- things change quickly in Emirates and you would be better checking more recent periodicals. This month is the 25th anniversay and there will be lots of information out there. Have a look at October's Airliner World (Airliner World: The Global Airline Scene) for example.:ok:

As promised here is a brief summary of what you can expect in the selection process. All of this info is provided to you before the selection process begins except for a few details thrown in.

4 days long

Day 1 - They will check your documents and logbooks and then there is an HR brief on the company and what is on offer. Then you are thoroughly briefed on the simulator assessment.
- You split up into smaller groups and go to different buildings to do the sim.
- You are paired with an Emirates pilot.
- You get to choose which seat you want to sit in.
- Use your current companies SOPs.
- Do not try to adapt to them, they will adapt to you.
- It is a VFR circuit followed by an engine failure at take off. Single engine approach to a missed approach and DONE!
- You then go back to the headquarters where they administer the Advanced Compass Testing.
- There is a math test (no calculators, highschool stuff)
- Compass testing is just a test of your multitasking abilities, memory tests and coordination. It is more fun than anything.
END OF DAY 1 - You receive a call in your hotel room advising whether you made it to day 2 or not.

Day 2 - Free day (ie. no assessments)
- You do the psychometric testing and a tour of the accomodations and Emirates medical clinic.
- You cannot study for the testing
- Do not answer what you think they want to hear. Just answer truthfully. They will catch you in a lie if you are not truthful during the testing.

Day 3 - First thing you do are the group exercises. They are actually quite fun and they have a bunch of different scenarios so I won't get into what we got. Some are not aviation related and some are.
- HR interview with an HR representative and your sim partner.
- meeting with the psychologist to discuss the results of your psychometric testing
- they call you in your hotel to tell you if you made it to the next day.

Day 4 - 2 medicals
- 1 for the residency visa and 1 for the GCAA licence

That's it............in a nutshell

I am supposed to be going to Dubai at the end of this month but have had zero correspondance from them since they confirmed my attendance over a month ago (several unanswered emails). It is now less than 3 weeks and I still have to buy a ticket for my wife! Anybody else had this happen? Let me tell you it is incredibly frustrating!

Am in same position and not sure what to do.......I replied to them about 10 days ago confirming the dates for interview and I haven't heard back yet. I just emailed them about 5 minutes ago and hope I hear from them. Should I call them eventually?

I apologize for using your admittedly frustrating situations as illustrative, but I can assure you this is a PERFECT snapshot of what your life is to become living in Dubai, working for Emirates. 80 idiots doing the work of two people, and completely screwing it up.

PLEASE don't be back on these forums in a few months if you're hired, complaining about what a ****-show the place is. You're getting it even before you get here!

nolimitholdem, Thanks for the advice but I have worked for many different companies and know that even though the leterhead may be different, they are all generally the same. My current airline couldn't organise a p!ss up in a brewery. No point complaining or trying to change the world. Do my job and go home. Pretty simple.

I prefer the phrase "couldn't organize a one-car parade".

I have an EK interview coming up and have received a 'brief' which states what I need to bring with me (in terms of documents). It states:

"If an individual holds a plastic type license, it must be accompanied by a letter from the regulatory authority to confirm that the license is valid."

I hold a 'plastic' license (FAA certificate) so am I supposed to get this letter from the FAA (a FSDO)? Do they supply such letters? I'm in Dubai working for a carrier out here at the moment, as I can't get stateside to walk into my local FSDO how do I obtain such a letter? Can a print out from the FAA website (Airman Certification section) do?

Any and all help is appreciated.

all you have to do is to get on the FAA website, click on AIRMEN certificate and make a request. They will send it to you by email or post (your choice) it takes not more than 1 week to receive it.

Perect LLEAR - nice one. I did that today. Finger crossed now. Just to make sure I made the request in the right place, is it supposed to be made to the [email protected] email address? That's where I sent my request anyway.

Another question..... My last regional in the US never stamped logbooks - the concept just didn't happen. My current employer in the middle east does stamp logbooks and I've had my logbook stamped by my current employer. Now will I be penalized for my last US employer for not stamping my logbook. I know they say 'or get a letter from your company stating that your hours are kosher' but, I'm not in the US anymore and don't intend to be before the interview. I know that nobody will issue such a letter without seeing the logbooks - that's for sure. Am I screwed, or am I just worrying too much. Will my current employers stamps to verify my last 300-400 hours be enough?

Trubu - it took about 2 weeks to get an email after I got shortlisted. Now that you're shortlisted, start preparing!

I read about some guys that were in the SE Asia area, and had stamps made to match their former company's logos, and stamped the crap out of their logbook. The CAA in question was very happy.

How long ago did you work in the U.S. at the regional? They must track your hours and keep those records for a set amount of years legally. All you have to do is call them (HR or Chief) to verify your hours there then have them email you the letter. An hour out of your time at the most.
