Yeah so your 4.5 year new captains were upgraded about 8-6 months ago. Could very well be so as then then would have joined in the beginning on the hiring spree of 2011-2012. What I'm saying is that the ones being upgraded right now are about 5.5-6 years in the company. This is not a static thing you know. I'm not making this up, just have a look at the seniority list (sorry, the bid help list) and you have the facts right in front of your eyes.

fatbus 1st Feb 2017 10:44

My guess this year is a majority of upgrades on both fleets are purely due to attrition. I think 380 is close to 6/7 years with many retreads and the 330 Capts next year.

arvida 1st Feb 2017 19:24

So, what are your stakes to get an interview now if you have more than 2000 hours and a few hundred hours of Dash?

pfvspnf 2nd Feb 2017 07:18

@arvida What were the rest of the hours on ? If it's 2000 hours on aircraft less than 20t then highly unlikely .

The rest of hours are mostly on King Air. So they are really asking for 2000 hour or more of Dash?

pfvspnf 2nd Feb 2017 20:35

A king air and a dash 8 are relatively small airplanes , from my understanding they are strict on their minimums. There are people out there with thousands of hours of turbo prop command time and jet time that are applying.

A few years ago I attended a road show event and was slightly short on the jet time and the recruiter said to only apply once I have the minimums .

A380 vs B777

Dear Emirates pilots,

quick question out of curiosity... Which fleet would you consider to be the better regarding scheduling, type rating, lifestyle and destinations?

Understandably both involve fatigue as has been stated multiple times before. So please no answers such as: None, both fleets drain your life away! I'm looking for an informative reply.

Cheers!

gardenshed 2nd Mar 2017 19:13

You don't get a choice, they will put you on the equipment they're shortest on.
Seeing as about 50 instructors are being temporary furloughed on the A380, so I'm told by the TRE who's recently done my recurrent, I'd guess you would end up on the B777.
Previous type doesn't mean much.

agent.oen 4th Mar 2017 18:45

Gardenshed, thanks for the info. However which fleet is considered to be the favoured/desired by the pilots wrt. scheduling, destinations, crew, lifestyle..?

From what you mentioned it seems that being on the B777 gives more job security. But surely this A380 over-crewing mishap is only temporary with so many more aircraft on order?

donpizmeov 5th Mar 2017 02:43

Oen. Whichever fleet has the better lifestyle now, means nothing for the future. Things change regularly here. I believe there are 93 380s already here. Press states a final fleet at 120. So commands for anyone who has not been on property for a while already are a long way off.
The 777 fleet growth is also stagnating. With most new deliveries being replacement aircraft for older ones. So again, those joining now, or not already here for a while will be waiting a long time to change seats.
As gardenshed has stated, the choice of Fleet offered is not yours. Both are great aeroplanes, and the rostering system seems to be able to ignore bids from both fleets equally.

Hello,
I am trying to find the skytest version 3.0 which I am sure someone here would have purchased back in 2012. I request to share with me & I will pay the money involved in this.
I am struggling for airline job & its very important for me to have this practice..
although I already have SKYTEST version 3.2 but I need the older version 3.0.
kindly help

Fellowship of the drink 10th Apr 2017 06:16

New recruits will very likely to be placed in the B777 fleet.

A380 trainers are being placed on unpaid deactivation for up to 3-4 months with 1 month active training then possibly another 3-4 months deactivation.

Current time to command in the B777 is around 5.5 to 6 years from date of join. This number can go up due to two factors. 1, stagnation of fleet size. 2, reducing number of trainers to handle the training backlog (due to trainer resignations)

Failed compass test

Hello everyone I am new here so pardon me if this a repeat question. I took the compass test recently and was not shortlisted. I was wondering if it's a one time deal or would I be able to reapply again after some time. Anyone that can assist me with information in this regard I would greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance

Unless the rules have recently changed, and as Don says, things do change, then you can reapply after two years.

Guys im a B738 F/O at Egyptair, i applied 2 years ago for Emirates when i had 2200 hours on type, they sent me that ive been short listed, then 4 days after that they sent me that my application is refused and they cannot tell the reason for that, 4 days ago i applied again in 3400 hours on type, and they sent me the same mail ( application refused with no reason to tell ) i tried deactivating the account and creating a new one, and the same happened, this really annoys me because i've revised the whole application all over again and again, and i see nothing wrong with it, any advices ? 😏

transport jock 23rd May 2017 09:42

So no mention of the pay cut at EK yet.... 🤔 Or promotion freeze or unpaid leave etc etc..

BigGeordie 23rd May 2017 10:32

That is because there hasn't been a pay cut, unless you mean the lack of a pay rise and ludicrous inflation in Dubai eating away at our salaries. Similarly, for pilots, there is no promotion freeze and there has been no offer of unpaid leave.

transport jock 23rd May 2017 10:44

That's not what a EK mate of mine says

aelmahh 9th Jun 2017 21:29

Hello guys, I'm stuck in between difficult choices. I'm planning on joining Emirates Aviation College as a transfer student. I know their are lots of mixed reactions. Considering the fact that the course is very expensive (EASA Intergrated ATPL). Please i need your advises both on the positive and negative influence.

To go or not to go to EK

Hello guys, I have been reading a lot about EK in the past months, I know most threads in here are about pilots suggesting not to apply, but I guess every situation is different. Could you be so kind to read my case and give me your opinion?

I currently fly the A320 in Mexico, I am single and my current airline offers quick time to command (4 years) but the Captain pay is not as good as you may think (About 3500 USD per month) flight hours about 80-87 per month, basically on a 6-1 working scenario, working enviroment is good, most captains are a pleasure to fly with and layovers are 12-24 hours rest. I could stay here and upgrade in about a year, but thats about it, no union of benefits. Another option is to sign with AeroMexico, who offers a nice union and benefits, but will fly E190, then 737 and in about 10 more years 787, all of this as FO, time to command is about 13-16 years for the 737 and the pay for 787 FO is about 3500 USD per month.

Will you consider leave all of this behind and apply for EK? Both the aircraft and salary will be a substancial increase, plus the time to command will be faster, not to mention the upgrade is on a 777/A380, not a 737/A320

Thank you all for taking the time to read this, best regards!

the only reason I can think of maybe you might have the wrong passport..if this is your first attempt and you have the hours there can't be another reason

777-200LR 10th Jun 2017 08:57

There are many Egyptian passport holders in EK. It is being discussed on another thread that recruitment may have been stopped, I stand corrected

Tricia Takanawa 16th Jun 2017 08:57

Are EK still offering the "enhanced" package for experienced pilots? Seems to have disappeared from the careers site.
Thanks!

I believe you have to start your application with EK before the enhanced package pops up. .although it no longer says how enhanced it is.

Tricia Takanawa 17th Jun 2017 06:52

Thanks! I wouldn't be interested without it :ok:

Interview prep

Hi guys i have an interview with EK next month can anybody with experience please advise me on a good interview prep there's a choice of latest pilot jobs and jobtestprep thanks

CARGOJOCK 25th Jun 2017 05:05

hello,
i am considering EK-SKY CARGO, as i prefer to commute.
appreciate a heads up on ground realities and the interview process and preparation for the tests etc.
thanks

felixthecat 25th Jun 2017 05:46

CargoJock, It's not a commuting contract. You are required to provide your own transport back and forth to Dubai, and just receive the standard passenger line pilot receives (i.e 1 per year plus concessional) Depending on where you live, you may well end up paying for full fare tickets there and back, many times each year.

Depending on where you live you may well also end up paying tax in your home country.

The interview process is standard EK that is already written about at great length on this forum.

CARGOJOCK 25th Jun 2017 05:56

thanks felix,
at least the time block of 28 days on and 13 days off. i am in europe so it should be ok.
do not like to live in the sandpit.

Probably a bad idea to take a job with a company based in the sandpit, then.

natops 25th Jun 2017 10:43

Cargojock, living in europe can end up really expensive.
Since the europe flights are pretty full most of the year you might have to pay yr own tickets back and forth business class full fare. 1000's of euros down the drain....

Your choice ofcourse

Anyone know if you got 1,500hrs on a 320 would they take an interview?

sluggums 26th Sep 2017 07:45

If you've got 3hrs on a C172 they'll take you...

FoxForce44 26th Sep 2017 09:15

They're accepting now pilots from the "other side" of the Persian Gulf. The first pilots started this week.
