Hello,
Does anybody know if I can fly with my own headsets (bose, sennheiser) or is it only allowed the one provided from EK? Regards |

Why would anyone in their right mind join EK ? Give them 5 , 10 , heck 20 years of your life. You will regret it , guaranteed. It is not worth what you get in return.
|
You may need to fact check the GRU one old boy. If you feel the need to sledge your colleagues at least do so correctly.

You may joke about headsets but I have been using my own noise cancelling headset for years and wear it for nearly all the time I am in the seat. It allows me to turn the volume significantly lower, than if I was using those terrible Telex headsets on the 777. The lower noise levels also help me feel less tired too, so I can appreciate why some may ask about this.
I have also lost count of the number of times I have had to prompt my monitoring colleague about missed calls, when they were using the speaker instead of the headset. |

Not trying to start a firestorm of negative posts but even after reading all the negativity I'm still interested in EK. Currently at a regional in the US working 90-100 hrs a month with minimal days off so all the talk of hours at EK sound similar. Not married and not bringing kids along (they are grown and in college) so most of the negative talk about bringing a family along shouldn't be a factor. For those of you that actually enjoy EK (if there are any on these forums) is it really this negative on line? I've read the forums about my current Airline and they have the same negative vibe but in reality most of the people enjoy working here. The forums seem to be where the negative minority hang out to bash the company- speaking of my own company, not EK.
Does EK pay for moving to Dubai? Is the townhouse they provide furnished or non furnished? I understand they provide transportation to/from HQ, is this true? Has a tax been implemented in Dubai? Heard they were starting that soon. I'm sure I have many more questions to come later. |
txpilot0320, PM me if you’d like more info
|
Same txpilot0320 - happy to help with some actual constructive answers, minus the sarcasm.

I'm sure I have many more questions to come later. Cargo entitlement when resigning is 900kg, so I guess it's the same amount when you join. -You can choose. Furnished (very basic and doen't look that nice) or non furnished with a 45,000 AED furnishing allowance (pro rata repayable if you leave within 5 years). You can use your furnishing allowance to ship your furniture from home via a cargo container if you want. -Yes -5% VAT from January 2018. No income tax (yet), but if you are from the USA, I think that you will still be taxed in the US. |
Does anyone Went to an interview recently ?
|
Thanks guys, I'll PM a couple of you for more info.
|
A friend of mine recently got into EK and my he is happy. The only thing he told me was that he should have came earlier. Don't believe the negatives here, every airline has its problems and EK has over 4000 pilots. Cant be those 4000 over pilots suffering there aye? Its all in the state of mind... + they are in need of pilots!
|
Ok Jake24 stay in your Dreamland and if you come here ( at EK ) don't say that you have not be warned...
Good luck |
Dubaigoing...they will come..and they will learn. For instance, when the are sitting as augment crew, unable to do a thing..and get sacked.
And Jake ask yourself..if EK is such a great gig...why are the in need of so many pilots..(hint)..it aint expansion anymore. |

Very good Jake24 ,
Now you pretend to know better than the EK's pilots how many aircrafts are in EK !!! And , unless you are new in aviation , you should know that having Aircraft on order does not necessarily mean that the company is expanding... It may also just mean that the company needs to replace old aircrafts by new ones more fuel efficient and less costly to maintain. And if you really think that EK is still expanding just read a little bit more the aviation news ( not on PPRUNE ) but on specialized aviation magazines about the Airbus 380's future and the possible consequences for EK. Anyway , as I said before you are most welcome but don't complain later on and you have been warned... |
I know about the renewal of fleet but the massive order can't be all for renewal, esp with the 787 coming. Well since its so bad there as you said, wheres good to go ?
|
Jake, most orders are replacements not additional airframes.. everyone here at EK knows this. Look, ek can work for you and currently it does for me. The second it doesn't however I'll be on the next plane out.
Do NOT, however, be under any illusions that this place is fantastic. It certainly is not. |
Then what about QR and EY? any opinion on them or are they just as bad.
|
Who cares? Come, don't come... you're not going to listen to anyone that doesn't agree with your 'well informed' opinion of this place. But don't whine later that you weren't warned.

you gotta be kidding to say they are not expanding... are u not updated about fleet orders? after all, most of the pilots are expats. Won't they wanna return home after sometime? Don't think I need to answer why they are in need of pilots... If u think its so bad, why not just leave?
To each his own. |
Good morning guys..
I’ll do the first step in 2 days (video interview). Someone did this recently? Any tips? |

Avia here is a tip.
On the EK Pilot recruitment page there is a picture of a girl, an FO. She became a Captain, took part in an advertising campaign explaining how she was a "girly girl" Then she left..and went back home. Ask them a couple of questions like.... If I am the augumenting crew and the operating crew makes a mistake..will I be sacked? Will the "Contract" you send me, will the conditions contained within, remain the same during my entire time of employment? In case I am involved in a incident, can I expect a fair hearing... Just a few tips for you... |

damn.. so much bitterness here.
@SOPS sounds like you are have a bond with them and you can't leave. |
I would suggest..a lot more research...
|
Jake, my friend, let me put you out of your misery,
I have 22500 hours, almost 6700 of them in Command of a EK 777. I left almost 3 years ago..went home and never looked back You need to get a grip.... |
Don't loose your time SOPS ,
We know what kind of guy Jake is ( if is a real pilot looking to join EK ) , they don't want to listen to what people at EK or ex EK have to say... He knows better , let him do his own experience and let's see what will come out of it ( not after 2 months but a few years ) He reminds me when I was was a teenager and knew better than my parents , I know for sure now that they were right... Good luck Jake and enjoy... |
Jake, you are right. There is a lot of negativity here. Have you stopped to wonder why that might be?
