Qatar Airways C/A

"Don't believe the hype."

Since I've been flying for Qatar Airways longer than a year I can honestly say these romours are true. It happends quite often that A300s/A320s aircraft leave with 3 respective 6 C/A:s. What may brought to discussion is the safety issues. According to CAA regulations there must be one C/A per 50 passengers, but I can assure you handling around 110 passengers in Economy Class alone is not an easy matter. On Qatar Airways flight there are at least two C/A:s in First Class. With this example it would only be one C/A in Economy Class which has happend quite often during my career.

Reporting to duty at midnight is nothing I have any complains about. I was well informed about the unregular working hours this job would involve when I became a flight attendant. What can be discussed would be the rostering since we work many days in a row with very little sleep in between.

Ethics and morals don't seem to excist or matter at Qatar Airways. This is why I many times consider to leave since I often feel very disappointed with my choice of career. After all I am young and have my whole life a head of me. Though I do enjoy my time in Qatar my studies begin in a few months, this year in Qatar has been an experience.

For those considering joining Qatar Airways. If you don't mind working many days in a row with lack of sleep and aren't disturbed by never being at home, Qatar Airways is the airline for you.

well yep

Amelia,I would love to make a comment about QR but everytime I tell the truth I get my posts hammered by a few pro QR people, just a few only and the lovely mods, but I believe in what goes around comes around,so the problems in QR will keep on multiplying day by day,Amelia best of luck in the future and enjoy the pending freedom and can I just ask one little question, why has the CEO refused to make public any annual reports regarding any funds for at least several years??

Well, here is someone who is NOT pro QR!

Despite stating factual incidents, certain people " cannot believe " AAB would do such a thing etc etc...

Many good good people have fallen foul to his regime...people HE approved for promotion...sad...

Best of luck to all out there!

There is a degree of truth above to all the three posts made by Taba, Amelia (is this your real name) and Kenoco.

Morale is very low at Qr at the present time. However, I totally disagree that ANY Qatar flight has gone out with less than the minimum required crew to man all aircraft doors.

The A300-600 has NEVER has less than 8 crew. Please don't be misleading.

Otherwise hope you are all well. What you up to Kenoco and are you really in France?

PM me and let me know............I am confused about your whereabouts?

less than the minimum required crew to man all aircraft doors.

Is this a legal requirement?

The A300-600 has NEVER has less than 8 crew. Please don't be misleading.

Please remind me why I should believe YOU? Have you recently started working for QR?

Hey A300-

Well just to let you know I did a few flight with 3 c/a's on the A320 and have also done flights on the A300-600 with 7/6 cabin crew on it. Was it legal dont know because everyone baffled us with the answers

A320 - at qatar can operate with 3 crew as far as i am aware due to pax numbers 132y 12f/c total 144 so ok as far as 50 pax per crew L1 door cabin senior 4L/R two cabin crew

A300 doors 3 L/R were classed as secondary exits/pax self help ones and were told no need for cabin crew as were short and you can go.

So for anyone to say it hasn't happened sorry it has

Hope this can clarify things a bit for some people.

Happy Flying

Gulf crew is right.

I took over an A320 last year and the CS (KM) was furious as she had just operated double DXB with 3 crew including herself! I had one more than her and I was a bit miffed!

I also operated a CMB on the A300 when one of the crew went sick in CMB. We were given "special dispensation from DCAM" to operate back to DOH woth 7 crew!

This also happened on a DAC turnaround. Strikes in DAC meant we could not layover. We were "augmented" to 10 cabin crew with a double flight deck. Weather meant diverting to CCU and we were rapidly running out of hours. We were just about to go to a hotel and literally walking off the aircraft ( it was now deemed safe to get to a hotel ) when we were told we HAD to go back to DOH. 21 hours duty..."special dispensation from DCAM"...

FACT A300 man/ MT Qatar and all the other disbelivers!

Once again. we are not slating the airline...just enlightening people to what is going on in a wonderful country and what could be a wondeful airline...some great loyal people out there!!!

Well said

Taba,

Well said! I am not at all surprised at these incidents. It's a shame that crew are still treated like dirt despite putting up with all these UNSAFE practise.

I do agree with you that we are not bashing the airline but just trying to bring some reality and truth onto an open forum. Sadly some people do not want to beleive what is happening at QR (the names you mentioned).

We are supposed to be an 'international airline' competing with EK, BA, GF to name a few good products. But as an international airline we do not have a PRICING MANAGER, MARKETING MANAGER, GRND SERVICES MANAGER, CORPORATE PLANNING MANAGER. So the situation on the ground is the same as with the crew.

Can anyone think of an intl 'fastest grwoing' airline without the above key positions? speaks volume of the airline eh?

QR has lost the plot, lost focus and is on a very slow spiral descent with all throttles pulled back!

My girl friend was ex- cabin crew and she has confirmed the unsafe practise QR seems to enjoy. in fact she was so concerned about safety that she resigned along with a few others sometime ago.

Can anyone help this airline? need a full restructuring.

I am off on a flight now... so see you guys around!

As an occasional passenger on QR, I have not noticed the lack of cabin crew. Im not opposing what you are saying from first hand experience as that can not be disputed. I have always had excellent service, no matter what sort of working conditions you guys have had to face. So hands down to you guys for providing such a great service.

When I was recently back in the UK and after reading so many of the comments on the lack of cabin crew on QR flights, I found myself consious of how many cabincrew were on each of my flights. I was on a UK domestic between LGW and ABZ and the aisle looked really crowded. It was a BA 737-400 in a single class layout and there were 5, yes, 5 cabin crew members on board. I believe that aircraft was kitted out with 140 seats, so 3 would have been enough. However BA had 5 CC members on that flight.
My return flight to LGW from ABZ was on a BA BAe 146/Avro RJ 100 and there were 4 CC members on board. Again that aisle felt very crowded.

On a recent Virgin Atlantic 747 flight I was on, I couldnt even begin to tell you how many CC members were on board. Every 5 minutes I saw a new face.

So from a passengers point of view, having the bare minimum of cabin crew members doesn't seem to be common practice among other majors. I just find it annoying now cause I cant stop counting all the crew thanks to you guys...

.....just kidding Keep up the good work guys, even if it is a struggle. You do a good job.

Cheers

Qatar Aiways Cabin Crew

We seem to be reading lots of stuff written about Qatar Airways regarding the number of cabin crew on board flts.

I would like to ask Amilia Why are you still flying with Qatar Airways as an employee or a passneger since you contineously keep writing about how unsafe they are? Are you not concerned about yourlife? I work for Qatar Airways and you got me worried but I can assure you, you seem to be the only person who gets to fly on an a320 with 3 crew or on the A300 with 6 cabin crew? How many have with on the A330? MMMMMM let me guess 2?

How about the confidential reporting system? Have you heard about it? Well just incase you have not let me ask you to submit all these complaints through that system, that will make sure they get to the appropriate persons who can adress these problems and rectify them?

Thanks for all to your contribution to this matter and hopefully this will be resolved soon?

best regards

To the best of my knowledge it has not happened

Operating an A320 or A300 with less than 5/8 on Qatar Airways is new news to me, the only time they operated with 5/8 is only for a short peried in the summer which happens to the big boys( BA, EK, GF) if you call them the big boys, because I think most of them are very worried about us stealing the market from them.

I admit that we still in Qatar Aiways have a long way to go, however I think we are achieving our targets with a good Pace.

Best of luck for those who likes to intertain people on Qatar Airways

"to the best of my knowledge it has not happened".

Well, Maha, we have just had three different people who are/were cabin crew for QR telling us it did/does happen. I find it a bit rich for other QR staff to come along and say it doesn't happen. Say "it is not a safety issue because...." or "we are short of staff so it is not a long-term thing" or "so what, our staff are so good they can handle it" etc. Don't just deny it.

You can understand staff, fearful of reprisals, coming to forums like this to air their concerns. QR have made no secret of their "if you don't like it, leave" attitude.

The current staff probably do like most aspects of their job, but are probably powerless to change the things they don't like.

Others are bagging QR out of bitterness. We are not stupid, we can see that for ourselves. That does not mean their gripes are not legitimate, or did not happen.

Denying problems doesn't make them go away. Try addressing the causes.

ahh well

Ferris more words of wisdom very good,I get accused of all sorts because of my truthfulness regarding one member of QR management,Maha a lot of crew members in QR need to work here because they have a lot of family obligations(mouths to feed),and the CEO knows this very well which is why he behaves the way he does which is why the staff turnover is so huge,I really am not bashing Qatar Airways at all,the potential is there for greatness but its turning out to be the butt of all jokes because of narrowmindness etc.Like how many cabin crew managers have we had in recent times???MANY.Its bizarre what goes on in QR but most of all very sad for the loyal crew. The boys and girls at EK are laughing again, why do we never hear anything bad on these forums about EK??????Great management, thats why.All my friends and contacts in QR keep yer heads up and keep smilin,ye are brilliant, the best cabin crew of all.

Confidentiality is something that lacked when I was with QR.

We, as seniors, had assessments to do: one general, one SEP and we used to do a TPR ( now scrapped I believe ). The cabin crew were allowed to see, discuss and sign ( or not ) the first 2, but the TPR was a confidential report that was supposed to highlight strengths and weaknesses based on a coding system. It also provided the office with relevant info regarding work positions being rotated etc etc.

So, how come I was questioned regarding one of these, by a crew member whom I had assessed using this system, when my SEALED flight brief envelope had gone in the night before and had not been collected to be delivered to the Cabin Crew dept!???

The info had been leaked by someone in the welfare dept "accidentally" and when I challenged this it was conveniently brushed aside!

It is the same when someone leaves the company...the rumours fly..oh I had it all and still get it from certain people on Pprune ( Tom Cruise springs to mind ) but the thing is people like to gossip and I believe this was the case with the incident mentioned above.

The cabin crew member should not have known that the assessment was being done. Certainly not at this early stage and probably never unless some sort of problem was highlighted.
The lady concerned was terrified, not from me, but from the thought of an assessment although she had no need to be.

This is where QR fails...people running to AAB, people with "friends in the office" bitching about other people and pre warning friends about any eventuality.

Even the crewing dept: I have a good insight due to working there...it is virtually impossible to do favours using the AIMS system, but there were other ways...and I witnessed several convenient reverting to native tongues to discuss things. I challenged something once in there and was told " listen, we'll just let him off his standby, we'll cover it..." Yes, some people had the life of riley whilst others worked unbelievably hard. It would never be noticed unless you checked back over a few months and the patterns would fall into place.

Sorry, I have rambled but sometimes it is better to get it off one's chest.

Things could be and should be wonderful at goat towers but methinks it is still the same old story. Oh, and Maha...I did not want to leave QR...I was kinda pushed for 1. asking for compassionate leave 2. someone from the welfare dept accused me of verbally stating that i wanted to complain to the foreign minister about something or other. Nobody could give me answers...I waas simply the next in line...

Watch your back

a change of direction

Back again, guys I have doin a litle thinking and just to let people know that I am not always going to say bad things about QR,for any potential crew out there if you go to Doha its not all bad really.Keep a low, very low profile, avoid little Adolf as much as possible, don't expectt a permannent contract ever, but the flying is the easiest ever, the nightstops and layovers are the longest in the business,Bangkok,Maldives,Milan etc, like mini holidays really, the money is alright, minimum expenses and with the exception of the CEO and a few people in the office, there are some fantastic people in the airline,95% of all the crew are great people.Doha will open your mind a lot but the real Qataries are really open happy and organised people. Its a peacefull place really and you can save a lot of money.Bye Bye all.

I've written once in this forum when I replied on the hype of Qatar Airways. I don't know what you do at Qatar Airways, but you don't seem to be working as cabin crew. I can assure you the airline is lack of cabin crew and we do get to work very often short staffed, especially on the shorter flights, specifically to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Kathmandu for instance.

If you do work as cabin crew you must also be aware that the cabin crews of A330 consist of more than 2 flight attendant.

Fare well.

All I wanted to say is the following.

I know for me, being a QR pilot, everything is a lot more easy than for the people working in the cabin.

You all do a wonderfull job and I admire you all for the persistence and energy you put in your work!

Chapeau!
