Hi.
I am hired by Emirates Group and my wife is on my visa.
We are planning to set-up small business and probably need NOC.
That business idea doesnt conflict with Emirates business in any way.
Shall I ask for NOC from HR/Legal, or I will get myself into trouble?
Or it is just easier to open on my wife's name?
Thank you.

So latest stupidity at Ek:
pursers stopping flight crew going on leave, traveling as pax, showing ID and going to flight deck on ground pre flight to say quick hello!
purser stopping flight crew (on ULR or augmenting trip) from having beef from business class because one of other pilots had crew meal beef - reason being beef was cooked in same kitchen!
cabin crew uniform standards stopping pilots about uniform!

Many years ago had a purser (my pre EK days) asking me what I was doing in ‘his’ galley while I was getting a Coke so my reply was what are YOU doing on MY aeroplane. He got it very quickly….
Simple answer; Be nice but if they need putting in their place so be it…. And anyone who has to say ‘I’m the Captain’ has, quite frankly, already lost their authority!
Edited to add: I haven’t yet heard of a ‘uniform standards person’ challenge a pilot. It’s like a Staff Sergeant challenging the Colonel….

Why would you go to the flight deck to say a quick hello?
Do you tell the guys “I’m in 2A in case you need me”?
The uniform standards twats don’t stop pilots. They just report you.

Cabin Crew have already got crew pulse swap system up and running.
where is flight crew version? Probably won’t work with all the Ek Compsny restrictions applied!
(PS before you all fall over yourselves praising Ek, this has been available since day 1 when the new system was introduced. Other major US airline pilots have been sitting by the pool down route happily swapping flights for years. EK restricted us and did not make it available!)

Maybe slightly OFF Topic… But EK is all over the place and websites when it comes to recruiting pilots.
By looking at the number of frames, this company is not significantly growing at the moment (apart from a couple of A350)…
They phased out a significant number of the older B777’s.
Why are they so desperately looking for new pilots? Yes, there is a certain amount of retirements, of course, but this would not require such a massive advert and road show campaign over the last couple of months IMHO.
Could it be, that by far more pilots leaving the company than they can replace in a timely manner?

From time to time rumours about bases abroad/commuting contract arises. It's always the same thing. I don't know why people like to delude themselves about these things.
No airline in the Middle East will offer such things. RIA is the only exception for commuting contract and just for as long as they need to attract a significant number of pilots to start their operations. As soon as things are relatively stable the commuting option will be trashed and people will have the choice of accept being based in Riyadh or leave.

Some silent biochemical warfare going on there. Just report it, standard ops. You have to manage your health. But you can't escape the air pollution in Dubai. What to do, halas.

I don’t know where you have heard that from. I have been quite a regular on that route for many years and I have never heard any crew talking about bases in Manchester. It is very popular with CC with northern families who take the opportunity to see parents on layover but no one has ever mentioned Manchester Base during conversations at the Bar.
You mention the 3 flights a day, which is supposed to be increasing to 4, but still more flights to LHR so if on volume surely that would be the logical base if being considered which I am sure it is not. I’m only SLF and no connection with EK.
Cheers

Bases.
About 20 years ago SIA had bases worldwide, pilots on those bases were contracted until 60 as was legislation at the time. Tipped out at 60 in the UK they sued for ageism (as the legislation was changing and you could legally fly to 65 pretty much worldwide but not with SIA) and - certainly in UK - won substantial damages. SIA were hamstrung by UK law which governed the base. All bases - LAX, ORD, SYD, AUK, LHR - were gone with 4 months of the judgement. Employment was still guaranteed but you had to uproot to live in SIN, accept a SIN contract and settle into the SIN roster.
I'm sure that Emirates management are well aware of these pitfalls with bases, local emloyment law etcetera and are unlikely to dip their toes in that water, especially if they're getting recruits through the door based Dubai.
