Emirates (EK) Interview - all you need to know about it (threads merged)
The poster above casio man, might not appreciate having his back catalogue put on display, but as a lesson in poor career choices and ignoring the advice given on this board its worth viewing:
casio man April 2008
casio man March 2009
I believe he had a jet command with his previous employer, he'll be lucky to be back in the left seat with EK inside 8-10 years.
There's at least six years of negative information about EK on this board, particularly about declining conditions. casio man thought he knew better than the people posting. Now he's one of them. Poster Ixnats another.

Jet,am with you here.
I cant understand it too...so many guys/gals rant and whine, but still stay on.
Perhaps its a question of making it look bad for the outsiders so that can bring their buddies from all the all over the place to come join them under the big ole sun?
Or, slow the recruitment down to force the company to improve their package?
Dubai is far from perfect, no doubt about it, but to each his/her own and you have to come in with your eyes open. If you make a mistake and the life is not the one you want, feel free to admit it and move on. No one will think lesser of you.
To continue to stay, and then whine and whine, well, what can I say?

Wow...you have so much time on your hands buddy?
But, yep, poor decision, but to be fair, the major changes have happened the last 12-18 months, well after my interview date.
Water under the bridge and time to move on...

How do you know? You weren't here.
What do you know about trainers Payment Per Duty? About cost neutral cancellation of payment for Sim/Ground/Leave duties? About the original factoring scam? There's much more, all pre 2007. But you thought you knew better.
Learn your lesson well buddy.

Sorry casio, 6 almost 7 years ago that FOs were shafted by the DEC scam, all FOs now knew of that scoop before joining. Pay neutral pay cut was 5 to 6 years ago. How many pay cuts since then? Conditions have been on the decline for at least 8 or 9 years. But what would we know? You listened to what you wanted to hear prior to joining and made you decision on that.
In the late 80s early 90s a new joiner here out did Cathay. Not quite the same now if FO salary is judged against FO salary. You make ya bed, you lie in it.....or so they say.

Obviously agree with the conditions slide and the productivity increase implemented a year ago. We are all working harder for less no doubt. A fatigue book off is absolutely justified in many rosters. You do what you have to do...
EK cannot be compared to CX back in the late 80's or early 90's, that was the A scale, and it's on a different planet. I don't see many multi millionaires here at EK. Even the B scale is a much better package. An EK captain makes about the same as a CX B scale passenger FO. EK has fallen behind once again...

But Saltaire - CX couldn't pay me enough to live in HK, that's where we make our choices heh? Give me the sandpit over China (and let's face it HK IS China these days whatever anyone says about autonomous regions) any time

re CX: exactly and they won't pay you, the housing allowance is not available to new FOs on a base. CX is great for guys that have been there a while but for new joiners its very tight financially.

I have 2000 hrs of cessna captain time and 2000 hrs of piper captain time. 47 hrs of boeing (sim) time and 133 hrs of airbus time. is that enough for a direct entry 380 captain at emir@tes? I have never crashed an airplane in the evening

" Ive been shotlisted for a month. Should I be worried?"
Mmm..............well, I guess if we knew what happened to a person when they're 'shotlisted' then we might be able to help. It doesn't sound good though................

Mr Haole, sorry you have no job. I'm glad you have been shortlisted which will give you hope, well done.
My only concern, and it is a major concern is your comment 'This place may be just right for me to recapture my self-worth' worries me greatly. Ek is the last place you want to be if you have any doubts about self worth!! If you have any self doubts then this place, the climate, the attitude of management to its employees, the mixture of cultural/moral and religious ideas etc is certainly not the place to try to work yourself out. Enough self assured, intelligent and confident people come out here and have a hard time.
If you come just for the job then that is OK, albeit that you will become terribly disappointed that EK is not the pot of gold you thought very quickly. Then it will dawn on you that although you now have a job you are a long way from home with still the same initial problems which will probably be magnified!! Don't expect any fast upgrades.
Sorry but EK at the moment is not a happy place, try every other option first - you have been warned!

My self-worth comment was meant to be TIC but now that were on the subject....what does "shortlisted" mean? And just how long is a shortlist?
(I am referring to the application process)
Are we talking weeks/ months/ years?
The mood at EK sounds a bit like my former employer. Heavy monthly rostering, downtrodden employees, and a general disregard for the front line employees.
I feel that ulcer flaring up. Cheers.

I was "shortlisted" and then went to "under review", what the bloody hell does that mean? I had to forgo an interview last year as a had a big scheduling mix up - long story. Surely they don't hold a grudge do they? (eyes rolling)
