FO prerequisites
Hi there,
Can anyone confirm the drop of requirements down to only turboprops experience for F/O applicants?. Heard on the grapevine...
Web site is however still indicating jet exp required.
Qualified comments much appreciated
Thanks

TRUE or FALSE
someone told me that before i accept the job offer from EK i had to think twice. how true or false is that my wife will be bothered by locals. how true or false is that if you get in trouble with a local you can be deported and lose your job. how true or false is that you can go to jail because kissing in public. no hands holding or hugs in public because you go to jail, be deported and lose your job. I am thinking to move there for the last 20 years of my life

Dedeita concerns
Been in DXB for the last 15 years, here are the facts:
1. Your wife will not be harassed by the locals. Indians and Pakis like to stare at women (and almost at everybody/thing, but it is normally harmless staring; annoying, though). No more harassment than in any other big city.
2. Public demonstration of affection towards opposite sex (kissing, hugging, stuff like that) is against the law. Walking hand-in-hand not a problem.
3. Swearing in public, "giving the finger", may get you in trouble with the law. Doesn't matter whether or not the other person. Usually, one month in jail and deportation (you will lose your job, of course).
4. Road accidents involving local people ... the problem is that they try to chat up the police in Arabic and you don't understand what they are saying.
But if you are not at fault, you win.
Hope it helps

Upgrade options better on A330/340 or B777?
I understand that EK will recruit you according to their requirements but i am just wondering since i have both 340/777 type ratings which is a better option keeping in mind :
1) Time to Upgrade
2) Lifestyle and days off
Also if you are A340 rated must you still only fly A330's for a year before you can fly both 330/340.
Thanks in advance.

you join now upgrade 4-5 years more than likely 5 unless lots leave and that will shorten it but they like to bring in DEC's when they get tight.not sure if a new joiner with 340 can go onto the 340 after 6 months, there is a good chance that could happen. days off vary top months 15 bottem months 8. if you are thinking of commuting its doable but hard, company does not like it so they set the bidding rules to make it not so easy. if you could do back to back ulh's it would be easy. road show said something along the line of 500 pilots needed through the end of 08, based on no one leaving, that would put us at 2100 ish.

getting a job as FO w/ EK
Hi guys, I am FO 777-200 total time almost 6000. I will be upgraded with the present company to CPT in 10 months on MD90-30 or RJ170. I have ATPL(F) and I am thinking to join EK as FO since they have a better package. Any opinion about that?

Take the LHS, you may not get another chance for a while. It doesn't matter if it is a 777 or MD whatever...
If you really think EK is a better package take a closer look... Do not trust them for an instance... the LHS may be further away than you expect at EK.
Edited; meant LHS, sorry.
