g109, days off are just that..they are not for the company to use to their advantage, moreover the practise of rostering a ULR flight after leave is punitive in a predominantly expat airline...but wonít affect you in zee fatherland, so itís ok then.

Applied for f0 position ek

hi guys!
I see so much bad to the company , yet have to see a good word about it . Really feel depressed after reading the whole discussion . Since 2016 and now end of 2018 only bad things about EK. I just made my mind and applied in EK a couple of days back . I was wondering as still the upgrade is 6-7yrs ? Since I have a lot of right seat hours and donít feel like staying that long further in the right seat . I am 777 rated / current with almost 3000hrs .

Just a word of caution to all prospective new joiners - due to the stagnation of the fleet (and even reduction of net airframes on the 777) Commands are about to slowdown dramatically. So positions will only open counting on attrition - which is still quite high.

If you join either fleet (with around 1200 capt each at the moment) you're looking at around 60 command courses per year on your fleet. Join at the back of a 1200 list of FOs... and do your own maths!! Currently 7-8 year FOs are waiting for upgrades on 380.

Saving on FO salary is not easy or fun particularly if you have a family. To struggle with $$$$ I rather be home.

Just my 2c.

You really feel depressed about Emirates but you applied anyway? Wait until you get hired and see how depressed you become. 6000 miles from home, 3rd world culture, busting your ass at 100 hours a month and your money struggling to keep up.
Why donít you get on with a US Major? They are far better in terms of.....EVERYTHING! Pay, days off, contract, insurance and even upgrades. You might have to wait 4-5 yrs there as opposed to here at 7-9 yrs.
When you get hired here and you will get hired you will Long to be at a Major.

Emirates issues

I applied because emirates looks amazing as a company . I used to hear that people got the upgrade in 3-4yrs , which professionally is supposed to be a big jump But I exactly couldnít make out the problem with it till now ...I mean itís the 100 hrs that bothers everyone ? In us major you know , one has to start from the lowest levels (regional ) which is a very difficult life and then slowly move up , no doubt after years you will be in a better shape but itís the best for a guy who just starts his career rather than someone like me who already done so many hours and is almost 40yrs

Yes by all means come to Emirates and come quickly. We need you and you’re just the person the airline is looking for.
To be blunt you don’t sound like an American but you could have received the numerous Green Cards the government is handing out.
If you have plenty of hours already like you claim you don’t have to start at the Regionals. You can go straight to Delta or AA and upgrade in 3-5 yrs but Emirates is an amazing company. Come and experience it for yourself.

Itís not for lack of trying.
Whatís more embarrassing is pilots staying here telling themselves and others that everything is great when any clear headed person knows how bad it is.

Well now I am just confused . You keep telling everyone that they need to just get a green card and they will be picked up by Delta etc, but you have been trying for ages and can't get a job? So your advice seems to be a bit off doesn't it? Misleading even. Good news is those traits should see you right for a management job with EK . See all is not lost.

Funny how some "assume" it a given to get on at the US majors. Know many that tried and failed , good guys as well . Maybe you need to be more nerdy

Iím confused Don. I see the bad and knowing I canít fix the rot I try to leave for a better life. You know Emirates is bad for you and yet you stay and disparage pilots trying to leave.
I will get hired by a Major. When? I donít know but itís a simple numbers game. The US Majors need around 20,000 pilots in the next 10 yrs and only 12,000 or so pilots have applied. Hopefully Iíll get hired sooner than later. We all know what Emirates does to us.

Even knowing Fliion probably doesn't have an app in with one of your majors, I will still buy in on this bet.

As I understand at the moment EK are not offering the housing allowance so you have to accept company accommodation. I have a wife and child so will I get a villa or is it possible to get a flat?

The villas are Meydan south right? Our friends say this is far from town.

Where are the flats situated?

Yes you will be assigned a villa, but you can request an apartment if you want.

They are usually Millennium Towers (on SZR) or somewhere in TECOM I believe.
