Has any one turned down EK job

I was wondering has any one turned down EK offers or last minute no shows for course?

Thanks in advance.

Propaganda

Were you offered employment, or was that just more Propaganda?

Middlepath

To answer the original question, reliable rumour says that pilots have turned down offers of employment and/or pulled out of the process at all stages. Not suprising with 2000+ pilots, can't please everyone. The original question doesn't elaborate why though.

Quite regularly whole courses do not turn up - one did just that recently. I don't know their exact names however I do know that there was some unexpected but needed free time on the ground school instructors schedule!!

Why do they pull out - no one knows but them but I suspect that they realised just in time what a momentous decision they were making moving to Dubai.

I have no intention of any unuseful propoganda or waste somones time for no good reasons.

Just going through threads of many discontent pilots and after reading the terms and condition makes me wonder if there has been many no shows. I assume any terms and conditions are relative, depending on what you are used to.

I am simly trying to share information before signing the contract, once sign a contract then have to honour the contract otherwise no point signing.

There is an ATA pilot who turned down the job 1 year ago because he could not sell his house because of the market and the covenant for the association said he could not rent his house either. He was in a bind and he had to have money for his house to make the move. Long story short he turned down EK and now that ATA is out of business he inquired about joining and EK turned him down flat.
EMirates can't be that desparate if they are pulling ****te like that. It shows you what kind of employer you are dealing with though. Why wouldn't anyone want to work for the best airline in the world? If a pilot does not want to work for EK than screw him. That is the attitude here so beware.

Strange old world is it not?

If a company turns a candidate down and he or she says they will never want to apply to that company again, they are looked upon as having a huge "chip" and possibly in need of psychiatric treatment.

Yet if a company gets the sulks and throws the toys out the pram and resorts to generally childish and vindictive behaviour, when a potential employee "lets a company go" it is accepted!

I had a mate who turned down a A310 freighter job cause he wanted to fly something more modern (which he continuely pointed out to them in the interview). They initially said "thats it you only get one chance with us" .
Then 6 months later EK recruiting call saying would he like a B777 course!!!
There is no hard and fast rules here.
Keep Recovering

I don't mean to change the subject, but was wondering if anyone on this board could recommend the best mobile phone service. I'm looking for a service that offers a decent rate to the US. While your at it, perhaps you can recommend a bank?

Middlepath, they are generally okay about delaying your start date once they have made you an offer if you have a valid reason. If you are really determined to come and play in the sand that is a better option than turning down the job.

From an ex-colleague...once selected he was allowed to defer class up to six months (with a valid reason)..he was also offered several class dates depending on his choice of equipment..then he would have needed to be "re-screened"...this was a while back..not too sure these days

We'll be even luckier if we manage to avoid reading stupid posts like that in the future

I too was offered a position with EK about two years ago. I deffered my joining and ultimatley chose not to go. There are many many days where I regret not going and there are also the days where I am glad that I did not go.

I hope that makes sense to people.

I had alot going on at the time and I felt that it was the best decision...

now as I write this I'm not so sure...

Even to this day I struggle with the decision.

Have a few friends who left Emirates few years back and they r all happy with their decision, they r all enjoying life as it s should be, depending on your roots of course. All their familiy much more healthy and happy now, but they make less money after tax. So back to this basic saying :" CAn t have everything".

I did! they where quite nice actually. I wrote them my reasons and they replied saying that if I ever wanted to apply again I could do it. With the job maket doing well in europe... centralwings, easy, ryan, vueling, airberlin, etc... even air france is posting on flightinternational for pilots... EK just isn`t good enough. all these airlines are paying as much or even more than EK and with social security included. Even more now with the euro at 1.6 dollars. The only advantage with EK? The chance to fly a 777 or 380... but once seated on the flightdeck airplanes do all feel the same. so I`m still home hapilly flying the A320.

Much better in a new shiny jet. A332, 343, 345 and soon 388. This all in the spate of 2 years. 350 is next!!!! No place like EK in the world. Also looking at the price of Jet A1, this might be the only place left in a few years.

Agreed.

However I would not build all your "hopes" on that at the moment. If a country or countries decide to clobber a country very close to you, it may just "be the place to escape" not to stay.

Not trying to sound alarmist. Just keep your options open.
