EK Sim Instructor/Evaluator
Greetings,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Trying to get some additional info on the EK sim instructor positions. From what I have been able to gather things didn't work out with Boeing/Aleton as it was percieved as "too expensive".
Anyone have any additional info about T & C for the position. So far EK has been very tight about any further info.
Thanks in advance

"doing an excellent job for EK then"....................not exactly what we are hearing. Might be good instructors but totally unfamiliar with EK ops. Not their fault but a good indication of how much the company value the quality of the training these days.

guys
have heard from a good and reliable source that one is a yank and is very competent with many decades as an Heavy jet instructor, one is ex BA also very competent with decades of heavy jet instruction, two are ex Air France with similar experience and one is a recently retired EK TRE..... all with many years experience on the Boeing 777.
sooooo I hope that helps a little. and yes the Alteon guys are working overtime to learn EK procedures ...but from what I have heard EK procedures are being respected.
However the EK TRE/TRI are very very good. Our guys have been flying the 777 for over a decade now and really know how to teach the boeing.
If I had a choice I would want to be trained exclusively by EK training staff. This would ensure consistant teaching methods during the initial training phase........but its an effect of the rapid expansion.
My opinion....cheers

Please re-read my post. EK is advertising on their own website for sim instructors/evaluators! So, thanks for the suggestion to "ask someone who knows"! That's what I was trying to do......Certainly Sigmar knows nothing about the EK positions

Apologies, I wasn't aware of EK's ad (nor can I find it). Here is the Sigmar link:

Sorry, I have to partially disagree. Been here long enough for that.
We do have a very few good instructors and check airmen, but most of the new guys are very green. They are only required to be on the left seat for a few months before getting a position as a TRI and suddenly, they become experts in Boeings.
I've been flying all sorts of Boeings in the past twenty-six years and I would be uncomfortable to qualify myself as an expert on those airplanes.
I've seen these guys at work in the sim and on the line and some, just quote from the manuals and spend a lot of time on this CRM BS. They act like parrots.
I believe EK is mature enough to attract highly experienced and qualified instructors from outside.
IMHO

Machbias....sorry mate, you got that all wrong. You dont need to be a so called expert to be an instructor, but a good safe pilot with good human skills and good communication skills will do.
Actually the self nominated expert types are the ones to avoid.
Just my honest opinion
G'day

I think you are both right. Ive flown many different Boeings and AirBuses over the last 20 odd years, and been an instructor for quite a few of those.
The only thing I consider myself to be an expert on is how to stuff things up!
So, maybe I can help others not to fall into the same traps/mistakes.
However much I detest flying with pedantic SOP fixating sons of bitches as instructors, I know that they make me work harder and some one has to enforce the rules. I seldom carry a grudge longer than a few years though, even if I wasn't fully cofigured at 3000ft for an S/E NPA app with low fuel and a Cadet Pilot who needed help to find the checklist......
Different trainees respond differently to different trainers, and as all pilots are not the same, nor should their instructors be.

sorry for helping take this thread off track...
T &C s for the ground instructors are very similar to the F/O conditions I think.
Now that the Sim duties you will be doing are equivalent to what EK TRI and TRE Captains have been doing, you should be getting something close to a Capt. T & Cs but I don't think they have sorted this out yet. T&Cs in EK are a supply and demand thing, market forces and all that.
Good luck with it though. I for one can't wait for you guys to get here.
