Abu Dhabi GT 767 First Officers

Hello all!

Just a few questions regarding Gulf Traveller 767 Abu Dhabi First Officers. What are the rosters like, how many days at home/away are they stable etc? Whats its like living and working in Abu Dhabi especially married with a new baby? (I am a bloke, I know my username is misleading)! Please respond with anything good or bad as I would be most grateful to hear your opinions.

Thank you!

GT AUH Qs?

A few questions on a new joiner with regard to GT AUH:

1. During groung trg in Bah, sim in Dohar, is accomodation and food paid for and are there any allowances for misc. charges like laundry, etc.?
2. For the GT AUH folks, when is the UAE residency visa available - upon joining or is it being organised whilst you are training in Bah/Doh? Am thinking of sorting accomodation and banking in UAE for the family whilst I'm out on training but don't know if a residency visa will be available prior to start date.
3. During line operations, how is food & hotel accom arranged. All paid for or do you get a layover allowance and is it enough to get a decent feed?

Could guys on GT experience enlighten us on this, thanks.

All training and Sim in DOH, covered by GF, full pay from day one, no out of pocket expenses. Laundry covered while in BAH, uniform only, and at HQ facilties.
UAE visa, supposed to be under way as soon as AUH has your info, but may take a little longer due to the UAE way of passing the $$$$ around.

Banking: HSBC will help you sort out your requirements before your visa shows up, and have been helpfull for us. Can't bring the family until the visa is in your hands, but they can show up for a "visit" for 30 days, but will have to leave again before a perm one is issued.
On line, all hotels covered to a pretty good standard, and an allowance paid monthly (based on an hourly rate per duty hour away from base) to cover food etc. Same standard as the other airlines out here and works fine if you keep your cool!
Hope this helps...

give me abreak !!!!!!!!!!!!!!i have been here 6 + years and i do not see the light at the end.I have seen my standered of living go down with every year, the housing allowance is a joke and the schooling you need to take out a mortgage,as you know the aviation market is wide open and its all about supply and demand and we are in demand.

Can anyone elaborate on the initial 320 FO pay? Does it go up yearly?

How about housing costs in BAH? What can I expect to pay for a 2 bedroom?

I am interested in joining but have to seriously consider the pay difference from my current job. Also, my wife will be staying in Canada (at least initially) and I'll have to commute when I can.

Any thoughts? I have read through all of the Gulf Air threads through the search function and am interested to see if pay has increased.

Also, this thread began over a year ago and some posters mentioned teh new CEO and how things were to improve. Any evidence of those improvements?

I have heard many say it takes for ever for a command position with Gulf air, but for a reality check I have not heard of a major airline in North America upgrading guys without 10 years given the current economy

Cheers

well navmode.....then since we are in demand....go for it...GF on par with other carriers here....lived in BAH 11 years can't comment on the housing costs now, as lots has changed since the inflow of expats from Saudi. "Trader"...explore the GF supplied housing option, used to be a bit disappointing, but heard it has improved somewhat....5-700BD will find u a decent villa in Saar/Budayia area....schools another matter...just show up and shop a bit..complete the training bit before the missus n kiddies show up...leaves u time to concentrate on the task at hand...time to command????????????? not knowing!

Command time?

Well, quite true the reality check provided by R8TED....
Almost 40 F/Os upgraded to CPT in 2004 here in GF. All of them locals, that`s a fact. BUT - If you go through the seniority list, you won`t find any expat F/O in the position of being upgraded for the next year or 2 maybe.
My impression is that all expats ran away to greener pastures while the locals stay and get their chances.
Seems like in a 2 years time - provided things keep this pace - we`d have some senior expats F/Os and then we shall see how the upgrading stuff will be carried on.

Just my 2 cents.

Spot on, the reason there have not been any ex-pat upgrades is because they don't hang around long enough. Ironically the reason they don't hang around is they don't get upgraded within 2 or 3 years. The way it's going now, with average time from 320 to widebody being 9 mnths, that should all change sooner rather than later. Previously the time to command was around 7 years.

Some of these local upgrades were long delayed and I am happy for those who finally are getting their chances. In addition, there are some expats who have started their Command assessment, and have been at GF for less than 2 years. Some leave and some stay, it all depends on what they left behind. It seems that one can have a shot at command if you have the experience needed.

Instead of the differentiation between "locals" and "expats" in the posts, why don't we call the folks getting upgrades..."aeronautically, and seniority-wise qualified pilots" because there is really no other form of differentiation at GF..these are the only two qualifications..race is not one of them...

Absolutely! Merely following on the thread above in which there was a differentiation to point out the reasons that some where put ahead and some back. You know me "butt! PC (!) as long as it works!

Increase in the Gulf Air Housing Allowance?

These last weeks, rumours were very strong about an increase in the Gulf Air Housing allowance...

It seems that THEY spoke about it, a decision was about to be made, etc...

As far as I am concerned, I didn't see any change in my benefits for june...

Has anybody heard more rumours about this?

It will be time that Gulf Air reevaluate this housing allowance who must have been good 30 years ago, but now it's a joke !

Cheers,
BD

Unfortunately there will be no increase in the GF housing allowance this year. Management justifies this with the adverse economic environment GF is facing.
Next month you will get a 5% increase in your basic salary and that will be it....

Sorry for the bad news
