Spot on, the reason there have not been any ex-pat upgrades is because they don't hang around long enough. Ironically the reason they don't hang around is they don't get upgraded within 2 or 3 years. The way it's going now, with average time from 320 to widebody being 9 mnths, that should all change sooner rather than later. Previously the time to command was around 7 years.
