Add
One teaspoon of powdered cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ginger (powdered or grated)
in a tea mug...
Pour boiling water into it and let it stand covered for 5 minutes
Add a teaspoon of honey to it if you can't stand the strong flavour.
Drink this "tea" once (first thing) every morning, and again before going to sleep. The cinnamon main ingredient in this trick.
Do this for a week or two before the cholesterol test... and voila... cholesterol results clean as a whistle.
Eating a whole pod of garlic does help too. Try that as well for 2 weeks before the test. Might wanna do that just before going to sleep... and brush well before sleeping and after waking up!
Oh, and if you couple that with a 30-45 minute walk everyday, you also lose weight... and that cholesterol number makes you look like a teenager!

I have ticked that box for years,(my mother died of heart attack aged 40)and never had any grief from the doc, although in all fairness I am on the high side or slightly above norm, not off scale. As I live with a frog I could try the garlic trick, good luck to the rest of you/won't a high sperm count cancel out the garlic induced reduction. . .sorry!

Interesting recipe 9ws, but if you really want to cheat and get a good cholesterol result you would do better by avoiding pigging out on carbs for two-three weeks before the test, chocolate cake is supposed to be especially bad. No emptying the bar when you walk in either because you stink.
Ah, it has to be in a tea mug, might just work then
The walking advice is good .
Spaceman, how old are you, height/weight, body fat if you know it, any other diseases, any cardiovascular deaths in your close family, and what is this inherited cholesterol figure you talk of? Have you had your lipid profile done - that's your HDL and LDL (good and bad) cholesterol numbers, and triglycerides.
By the way, I\'m not asking this to give you targetted medical advice, only somebody who has seen you can do that. Just pointing out what is relevant when working out how you can try to keep yourself healthy, and the sorts of things you might be asked about or need to know about.

Majority of cholesterol problems are because your body produces it in the liver, thus you are pre desposed to producing high amounts of cholesterol.
I know of tubby people with normal reading and real skinny ones with very high levels.
See a doctor and do something about it, Lipitor is very good, I use 10 mlgms per day and it keeps me under the upper desired level, also if you use lots of niacin on your breakfast muesli and eat bran muffins also help.

As slim slag states, keep the whole thing in proportion.
A slightly raised cholesterol, and a positive family history wouldn't worry me unduly.
Not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, balanced diet and exercise are the key to improving your longevity.
I#'d think about obtaining qualified advice before taking a cholesterol lowering drug. You are, on the whole, unlikely to get that on this forum !
Happy days !

Try giving up milk and using Soya milk, such as Alpro. I did so 6 months ago and have halved my cholesterol !.
Was 6.7, now 3.5.
I wouldn't go back to milk now if you paid me, it tastes and smells revolting. Soya milk actually tastes really good. However there are some disgusting ones so make sure you try them all.

Well like most things...here's a curve ball from left field, and like lots of issues in medicine the jury is still out as they say...
Reading Health article the other day and they were talking about cholesterol and the link between low cholesterol and Parkinson's...I thought you must be kidding...
Is your cholesterol too low it says...Low LDL is good for the heart...but new reaserch states that too low a LDL increases a persons risk to Parkinsons...
I suppose it could make sense...Parkinsons is a disease of the nervous system...cholesterol is vital (as we can't live without it) for prividing substance for the Meylin Sheath...so could it be also be it plays a part in MS as well...
I'm no doctor, but it sure made me think if there is any connection...my cholesterol was anywhere between 7.5 and 6.5, so the doc's say I should have it lower so I use 10 mg of Lipitor and I am at about 5.0 now which I'm happy with...
But one cardiologist told me I should be on 80 mg and get it completely down to a really low level...I kind of looked at him strangely as I said we need cholesterol for a healthy life...
So what is a good level...the Heart Foundation advocates to be below 5.5 so at 5.0 I figure is ok...so what can I say....

A direct quote from Wikipedia -
"Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. Testosterone is secreted in the testes of men and the ovaries of women. It is the principal male sex hormone and the "original" anabolic steroid. In both males and females, it plays key roles in health and well-being. Examples include enhanced libido, energy, immune function, and protection against osteoporosis.
Like other steroid hormones, testosterone is derived from CHOLESTEROL." (Emphasis mine).
We are all aware of the dangers of high cholesterol levels, I believe it to be timely to remind that there are levels which are also too low.
All things must be kept in moderation

Old Smokey
