Dizzy Sometimes

Hi Guys,

Everytime I kneel down or sit on the floor everytime when I stand up and start walking, my head feels very weird and dizzy for a second or too and the it feels ok. It doesn't happen when I wake up from sleeping, only when I lay down or kneel down on the floor.

I feel a bit dizzy and clumsy everytime I get up from the floor, does anyone know what could be the problem with me? I've had a runny nose lately, could this be the problem? Hope this doesn't affect the Class 1 Medical

Cheers,

A333

Sounds like transient episodes of postural hypotension (low BP related to body position/movement) or maybe your runny nose (cold, I assume ?) giving you inner ear/balance problems.

As I have said before in the medical forum of pprune, this sort of problem is best resolved with a visit to the gp, rather than seeking advice on pprune, ALWAYS get checked out, you never know.

All the best, let us know how you get on.

mooney59,

I don't think I should call it dizzy but more like my head feels very heavy (Sort of hard to explain). My eyesight is normal and things don't whirl around and I do not start walk sideways. I've just read the symptoms and I feel I don't have any of them. My mother told me that I don't have enough blood, could this be true?

EDIT: I only experience this feeling when I kneel down or bend down for 1 minute or more. When I lie down on my bed for 5 minutes or so and get up, I don't get it.

I think it only occurs when I bend my body.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but about 2 weeks ago, I got stung by a wasp. The weird thing was, the day after I didn't feel any pain at all where I got stung, it was not swollen and there was no wound, everything seemed normal.

On that day, I also went swimming at the beach. When I went in the water and swam for around 5 minutes, I started getting a really bad headache. It felt very painful and I thought it was something to do with me being hot and then suddenly jumping into something cold so I got up and sat down to dry myself, after around 30 minutes it went away.

Get it checked out...do not take no for an answer.

You say that your vision is not affected, so my unqualified guess is that you are not greying out in any sense of the term.

Obviously a BP check should be done, but I would want to be very, very certain that I was not suffering any form of meningitis if I were you.

How is your hearing...and is it symmetrical? Balance in Hi Fi terms.

I am not really sure of the mechanism of what is loosely described as heat stroke, but a pal of mine in the UK was rushed to hospital a while back. He was poorly for quite a while after heat stroke was diagnosed.

What is a BP Check and what does BP stand for?

My hearing seems fine. I will visit a doctor soon and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help.

My money's on postural hypotension- a normal reaction to your body adjusting its blood pressure, to ensure blood flow is maintained to the brain, as your posture changes.

The solution to the problem is to get up slowly, allowing your body a little time to adjust.

The usual warning- go and see the doc if your worried.

Hello gingernut,

Thank you, I have only noticed this lately in the last few days (I use to be fine when sitting down and standing up quickly). I read an article that you get postural hypotension when you've injured your back or something but I don't remember injuring any part of my body.

Anyway, if I do have postural hypotension will it cure by itself as time passes? I don't want to get up slowly for the rest of my life Thank you for your help!

BP = blood pressure

If it is low BP it should be readily treatable but will not solve itself. Go to a doctor.

I know someone with Meniere's Disease and it's far worse than that! Normally the person is fine but can have an attack at random rendering them incapable of standing up due to imbalance and dizziness and bedridden for at least a couple of days!

Doesn't sound like that's what it is...

But as everyone else suggests, the best way is to see a GP

Orthrostatic hypotension. Get someone to take your blood pressure after laying down for a while then stand and have someone take your blood pressure again. Could also be a vaso vegal (sp) (can't spell this am) related problem linked to the cold. Best thing to do is go and see your family doctor and get a professional opinion.

Hi,

Can I have low blood pressure at such a young age? I'm only 16 years old I thought you can only have low blood pressure when you're in your 30's.

Is this serious guys?

Wow, where to start? A lot of things effect your blood pressure (BP)including your age, your BP will rise as the day goes on, your BP will usually get higher as you age, it can be affected by your weight and other underlying bad habits such as booze and cigs.
www.xklworldwide.com/normal_BP.html
Well I'm at work and for some reason my computer won't allow me to copy and paste so run a search on your favourite search engine normal B/P. I have typed one I found for you but the others that I found are to long to bother with.
Oh and for the record, worrying about ones BP can also raise ones BP
You might want to get some advice about the benefits of fitness and how it will positively effect your total health. Good luck.
Doctors don't always have all the answers seek out a sports Dr. and see if he/she can give you some advice.

ecnalubma,

Is there anything I should eat and shouldn't eat that will affect my BP? I also don't smoke or drink, I jog 1.4 KM almost every night (But I've stopped for about 1 month as I was on holidays). I've also play basketball on the weekends for years now. I am a little bit underweight, that's the only unhealthy thing I can think of otherwise, I don't think I have any other problems and consider myself fairly healthy.

Son, you are young and your bp should be low. As you age your vessels loose their elasticity and your bp will go up. Get some right information and quit worrying so much.

I'm utterly bewildered. I know that I'm unqualified, but surly in all cases of some form of dizziness upon rising, there is a distinct tendency to grey out. He says that his vision is fine.

This guy is describing symptoms that are not at all like a momentary fall in BP, and he adds other parameters that could indicate a quite different kind of problem. There may be some red-herrings with the sting and the (presumably) hot sunshine during a swim at this latitude...but who knows.

As one who has extraordinarily low BP, I know that when I go on a crash diet, I will, after about the third day, get quite severe symptoms when rising suddenly. Using anti-g stomach muscle techniques, I can immediately restore things to normal. His symptoms are quite different.

He uses the word clumsy...and combined with the bad headache during the swim, I would feel better if this guy was in the doctor's surgery right now.

A333 : Athough I'm not qualified to give you any medical advice, I would say don't worry too much ! I used to have low bp as a teenager and I remember feeling kind of dizzy when standing up or after bending my body and then standing straight . I was doing a lot of sports, eating healthy food, I'm now in my late 30's and I have a perfect blood pressure . But again if you start stressing about just seek a medsport or medav advice, maybe changing you diet could help !

cheers,

dj

Their are so many conditions that can cause dizzy spells, and yes, a low BP is one of them. I certainly do not want to alarm you in any way but I will ask you this. Should your fear of failing your medical jeopardize your px. For your own piece of mind and the safety of your clients go and see a doctor.

A333.
Just go to your Doctor and get a check-up, dizziness can be caused by all sorts of things and the Doc can check you out and put your mind at rest.
