Help! Physio needed

Who wants to give old Punter a nice rub?

Inadvisedly, I went for a quick game of squash last night before the pulled muscle in the old right shoulder had healed proper and now I've aggravated it. Looks like I'll be out for a couple of weeks, so I'm calling on ppruner healthy types for advice on what can be done other than rest to help chivvy the muscle along.

Ice packs? Deep heat? any ideas welcome.

I would call NHS direct on 0845 46 47, they may be a bit more knowledgeable than us here (very helpful when my knee packed up).
Also remember this keeping fit stuff is not good for you (my knee went during a sports match - skittles)

If it's a genuine "pulled" muscle, ie stretched beyond its fright limits, then the one and only surefire method of bringing it back is to keep using it. I'm dead serious. Go swimming, lift weights, work your bullworker, do pressups, play tennis/squash/golf/whatever keeps it moving and working. Ignore initial pain. Forget fatigue. Just keep going, until it comes right, which it will.

Otherwise, keep it iced, and alternate between the physio, the chiropractor, and the acupuncturist.

Then, steadily, get into archery and rowing. You're obviously too old for squash, and these more sedate pursuits will aid your rehab.

And drink more beer. Just because.

Fill a bath with hot water pour in a packet of Radox, that should do the trick, yer prolly won't be able to drink it all in one go though.

Smother in TigerBalm and/or apply TigerBalm impregnated "patches".

If it doesn't cure you, the smell will keep people far enough away from you that you won't have to explain what the problem is all the time.

Hi Parapunter

Take arnica tablets can get them from Boots any good chemist or health food shop. Within a matter of days you will be up and running with no side effects.

cream can be applied topically and it really works. Any bruising will disappear in a matter of hours too.

I swear by it and believe me when you have tried it you will never go back to deep heat /ice pack treatments.

ps if it doesn't work you can deal with me later!

RICE

R- Rest - for 48 hrs then get it moving, gently.
I- Ice - Careful not to freeze the skin. A bag of peas in a towel
for short periods only.
C - Compression- bit difficult with a shoulder joint, but handy
to remember for when you pull your knee.
E - Elevation - sit in an upright chair. Use pillows to support when
lying down.

Take 8 paracetamol and 3 ibuprofen (400mg) a day, but read the packet first.

Make sure you warm up and warm down before and after execising.

How old are you? God invented golf for a reason!

Don't know why some people post the crap they do on here, someone puts a serious question up, and responses like the one from itchy, don't do any favours. To be honest giner nut has the right idea. RICE is the way to go. Whatever you do, dont go weightlifting and undertaking everysport imaginable as one suggested, best option is to rest, maybe apply some deep heat to warm the muscle, therefore making it more aggreable to movement and gently do some rotation exercises to keep it as supple as possible. This slow movement will only aid recovery by increasing warmth and circulation to the affected area and prevent you to some extent from injuring it further. Apart from that, just a matter of rest im afraid, pulled muscle is nothing major, obviously depending on ow old you are, will affect the time it takes you to recover.
