Although the lack of information coming from CTC does not look entirely promising for ATPer's, it is worth making a couple of points:
But let's say that every month they add 10 Wings cadets in the pool, and are capable of 12 type rating a month Secondly from a CTC press release in Nov 2010. 'This year new cadet placements have hit a record breaking 292 for 2010 alone.' That figure would imply that CTCs type rating training capacity is at least 24 cadets a month. Not exactly the news some people are hoping for but some facts to cling on to:ok: |
It's a good point PLINKY DEL MAYO. If CTC's training capacity were full, the ATP program would be useless since it would be impossible to train Cadets and ATP's at the same time.
I think CTC is downsizing the Cadet pool and there could be an opportunity for ATP's in 2012 since some cadets will go to BA and QR and others to EZY but I hope they won't be enough to meet EZY's pilot requirements for 2012 which is expected to be better than 2011 with 200 pilots hired. Remember EZY has orders for 55 A320 and not all of them will replace the oldest ones. Now or never!! |

It's up to you. I consider it's a good opportunity for low-hour pilots and much better than RYR and other European carriers.
I'm only trying to contact those who will attend to the AQC on 14th November to arrange a meeting and share information about the course. Rgds |

Can someone confirm that you will get kicked out of the ATP pool if you take a TR after completion of the AQC???
I'm a little confused about if I should take the course... You risk being in the pool for at least 2 years like my friend has been. When he joined the course (ATP) he was around number 50 or so.... In the cadet pool there was 200 - that was 1,5 years ago... Now he's number 8.... I am planning on taking a TR at the beginning of next year so I don't if CTC will do me any good... |
I think it is the case that you are kicked out because how would you complete a type rating with CTC if you are already flying for someone else? If you are that worried about it the answer is just a phone call away.
Personally I think the answers easy. Definitely on type rating course now or the slight possibility of one with CTC in the future. I know which one I would chose:ugh: |

You can't take a TR since you'll be put away from it. Do we have to wait at home for the "magic call"? What a pity. There are some companies which have waiting pool and they allow you to do whatever you want. Even they like you maintain your flying skills up to date. Any movement in the ATP pool last month? Rgds |
I might be missing something here, but I'm really struggling to see what the issue is. If you gain a type rating somewhere else I'm making the assumption a job comes with it (because only mugs pay for ratings without a job). If this is the case then who cares if you get kicked out the pool. Isn't the end goal to get into paid employment as a pilot, not just to work for Easyjet.

Has anyone that is already in the pool heard any news at all? I haven't heard from them since May! I have contacted them since to ask some probing questions but find myself getting fobbed off with answers like, "we're hoping for positive news with regard to ATP placement over the winter recruitment period" etc. Has anyone near the top of the list i.e. single figures, had any indication as to when they can expect some news? I have been told that they expect their wings pool to be empty by early in 2012. If this were true, I would expect them to be contacting those lucky enough to be first in line in the ATP pool fairly soon to give them a 'heads up'. |

Its not unusual not to hear anything from CTC for long periods. As you've found out you won't get anywhere by pinging off emails to them every couple of months. Since last year they have adopted the strategy of, if there is nothing to tell, don't say anything. This way swimmers don't get their hopes up and then find its another year of treading water. I'm afraid you'll just have to sit, stay current and be very patient. I'm sure you realised when you signed up you would be in it for the long haul. As for when to expect a call, I suspect it will be very last minute. They do not want to place an ATP cadet if there is a chance a wings cadet will pop out the system in time to begin type training. In short, don't expect a heads up. I'd be interested to know where you heard that the wings pool would be empty by the beginning of 2012? :ok: |
Well you assume that some of the people in the pool wont pay for TR.
I really don't believe that. I think its inevitable that pilots in the future will pay for both TR and LT. Maybe not LT at the beginning but for certain TR. That's just the way the world works, its all about the money. It will take many years to change that. So the situation for many pilots is that they cant move on with their career without investing more money. Ofc there are a few places like Lufthansa and so on which will pay for your TR but first of all its hard to get in and second you need to be able to speak German. So those pilots who take the AQC at CTC what are they supposed to do the next two years or more??? My friend has been in the pool now for 2 years. He couldn't get any kind of job within aviation. So what did he do - payed for TR and LT and is now happily flying. However now he is not the pool anymore. But there are some that wont get a job after a TR, why should they get kicked out of the pool. I can tell you one thing, when you join the assessment they really try to avoid the question regarding whether you will get kicked from the pool if you take a TR. Most of the pilots taking the AQC are not even aware of this "policy". So they take the AQC and wait for a year. Nothing has happened and now they cant wait any longer so they decide to take TR and suddenly when they contact CTC after the TR maybe a few months later they say "ohh by the way you are not in pool anymore because you took a TR" too bad.!!!! I cant see the point in taking the AQC most of the ATP will end up anyway paying for the TR directly or indirectly through a bonding scheme... That is the FUTURE unfortunately. |

if tom I'll sign at my town university it's supposed that at the and once I've achieved my degree I'll send my cv i many companies.then I'll have few asssments...If positive im in!!working for what I've studied and most important paid for the job that i complete every day. So...first of all....why the hell a 20 ( or any other age) have to pay 60k euros (or any value) for tr+lt and other 60k for atpl-cpl?and for what?working for years without having a coin back?and then for 800 euros back? I thnk acting in this direction it's more likely that at the end no one will go trrough any flight school....becasue of the money and for the life as well. I can pay my initial trainig and at least my tr but at the end im ready to work....no bull**** of flyng for free to get the comany revenuee higher than expect.... things has to change or the entire system will collapse soon or later! |

Hi guys,
Apologies if my following question has been done to death, but after reading numerous pprune threads on the subject, I am still unclear. I am looking to apply to the CTC ATP scheme, and am wanting to start preparation, so any help in the following areas would be appreciated: 1. Are the aptitude tests for this scheme the same as the normal CTC tests, or are some missed out because you already have a license? 2. For preparation(apologies for the repeat question) what is the most useful software for preparation. I have seen cockpitweb, heard about pilapt prep, and have found fl350software.com for £35 which claims to have it all. I have read pros and cons about each one, but want to ensure I have the best possible one. |
