Stage 3

I see there have been a couple of posts on the stage 3 interview but does anyone have any further info/advice on what to expect, questions that were asked, how best to impress? I presume you will be expected to know details about both airlines?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

AW

Hi all,

Did not get through to Stage 3, Gutted as usual, But would like to say how exceedingly impressed I was by the Location, Professionalism and Friendly welcome we received at Stage 2.

People still to go down for Stage 2 whatever the outcome my personal opinion I took a lot away from the day even if it wasn’t the result I had hoped.

Mary top lady, sure you will all enjoy meeting her.
Steve’s very witty comments helped take some of the stress away. :)

Good Luck to Everyone Involved

P.S. Any PPRUNERS who attended Stage 2 on the 22nd Feb, would be interested to here how you got on.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Morning all,

Just heard I got thru to stage 2. About time tho: I sent my application form in way before xmas. The date is 11th March. Anyone joining me??

Ta da,

BAW22

Autofly 26th Feb 2003 14:28

Speedbird22,

Was that your faxed questions that you sent back before xmas??? That seams ages!!! There's one thing that this post seams to demonstrate - CTC are really putting candidates through the selection process fast.

Is is true that they have stopped new candidates applying until they've got through the existing minions???

Autofly,

Yeah it was! I actually posted the answers through something like December 5th and I didn't even get an acknowledgment so I had given up and look elsewhere.

When I got the email through from Mary I nearly didn't read it cos I thought it was junkmail. There we go, I'm through anyway.

Cheerio.

Autofly 27th Feb 2003 09:19

Good luck to you mate! I found out i'm off the the second stage myself recently but am not going until later on in March.;)

Cheers and good luck.

This thread has gone incradible quiet over the last few weeks ......

Anyway, can anyone recommend somewhere to stay the night for the testing. Obviously you can stay at Dibden .......... any thoughts????:O

Cheers

Plenty of Travel Lodges in the Area. Stayed at one 20 minutes drive away.

Beware those of you who get invited to stay over for the simulator test day. I was lucky enough to go through, but was cruelly rejected, the final kick in the teeth is when you get a bill from the hotel they put you up in (and say will pay for) a couple of weeks later!

carb 5th Mar 2003 20:58

They will also add VAT to whatever they say they will charge for staying at Dibden - that's if you're told they'll be a charge at all (I wasn't when I first called to fix up).

There are some B&Bs over in downtown Southampton just north of the railway station that will give you a room and some form of breakfast for £15 cash.

sally at pprune 5th Mar 2003 21:17

Maybe they just didn't like you ;)

I found them really helpful; they arranged my accommodation and told me exactly how much it would cost.

I have to say, I found everyone I met to be friendly and professional. Selection is daunting at best. Mary and Rod did everything they could to make it as pleasant an experience as it could be, and I learnt more about airline careers in a day than I have from months of research elsewhere.

carb 5th Mar 2003 21:30

Aye, they probably took care to tell you the actual charge because I had complained. I didn't say they weren't otherwise helpful, though, with advice on how to get there and other overnight options in the area, and the accommodation is very nice.

Phase 3

Does anybody out there know anything about Phase 3 of the selection for the cadet scheme? I shall be there on the 17th March (and 18th if I get through the third phase). I am guessing that the interview will have current affairs, basic technical stuff, qualities of a pilot ... but does anybody actually know and is prepared to give a few pointers? Plus the obvious "Read the question properly" bit for the team exercises - something I didn't do at the Britannia sponsorship . Hehehehehe... :)

Best wishes to all;

Graeme

Hours:

Did anyone see anything regarding hours maximums?

I applied, but didnt get offered anything because i have a cpl and too many (less than 500) hours for ab initio training.

Fair enough i guess, just a warning to others that may be in same situation.

Phase 3

You get 2 group exercises, the key is to fight your corner and come across well. Listen to every one and don't dismiss their suggestions, I don't think it hurts to maybe back down once or twice and say "I see your point and I agree". What ever you do have an opinion and participate, if you don't say any thing they haven't got any thing to mark you against.

The interview is a nice chat really, they'll chuck in the odd simple question, any one who's flown an aeroplane should know the answer though. What ever you do be motivated, sound as though you'd sell your own mother to be a pilot. So many people go in there and think they must act cool and collected. All that does is make you look like you don't care. Be a bit nervous, it shows them how much you want it.

Good luck.

P1 Forever 18th Mar 2003 16:28

Can anyone tell me if CTC McAlpine check or obtain references before inviting you to stage 2 of selection or is this only made once you have made it to the final stage?

Five5 18th Mar 2003 21:32

P1 Forever...after you've been selected, post stage 4.;)

Good luck!

Autofly 21st Mar 2003 16:18

Hey Guys,
To anyone still writing on this thread, I was wondering if someone could elaborate on the "physical" element of testing at phase 2. Is it limited to rudder pedals, and playing with joysticks, or does it encompass running on a treadmill to see how long you'll last, or if you can really swim 50m like the application asks??
